Wings of Fury is a terrific action game that puts you in the cockpit of a WWII Wildcat fighter-bomber, where you'll pound targets and engage in dogfights from a side-scrolling perspective using a variety of weapons. Most side-scrollers focus on furious action rather than aiming to accurately recreating real-world combat. Wings of Fury injects at least some realism into the mix, forcing users to think about things like gravity and maneuvering time. Bombing requires a great understanding of angles and relative speeds. You even have to build up speed to take off from your carrier. In addition, you must occasionally land for repairs.
The color graphics are good, especially considering this game is backward-compatible with older black-and-white Game Boys. The animation of the Wildcat is especially impressive, allowing for precise diving attacks. --T. Byrl Baker
