This is one of the most addicting video games I've ever played. Fun and interesting, easy to pick up and play, good graphics and variety of play styles.

If they were to make on online pirate game, consult Sid Meier's Pirates.

great game, but there is a glich where your ship can run aground (really it just gets stuck) in map mode and you cannot get it back in the water. Fun if you can avoid this.

Excellent game, changes everytime you play it

I think this game is endless. You can play it different every time! This is one of the few games that I have consistently played over the years. Yes I said years, my son and I have gotten countless amounts of hours and enjoyment from this game. I highly recommend it.

fun and addictive -- another excellent Sid Meier game

This game does have some faults -- the gameplay is shamelessly repetitive at points. But it just doesn't matter, because the world the game creates is so much fun to play around in, and the freedom to move among the various activities available (ship battles, sword fights, land battles, dancing minigame) is complete. It definitely has that "just five more minutes" quality that Sid Meier seems to achieve so regularly.

The Xbox port is great and controls very nicely. Works well on the Xbox 360 as well. Just make sure to update the game through the in-game interface (not just through Xbox 360) as you'll get extra content that way and be able to upload your scores to Xbox Live.

So a little time has passed and now not only can you run the X-box version of this game on the 360, but you can download it from X-box Live! Is it still worth playing today? Oh yes! First of all, I like the console version better than the PC version. It just feels more pick-up-and-play on the Xbox, the controls work beautifully (I vastly prefer pressing buttons to hitting number keys on a keyboard), and with the high-resolution rendering on the 360 the game looks wonderful. In fact, I only have one complaint. You can't skip the intro movie on the 360 for some reason.

If you like the PC version you may want to change over to this version for sheer ease-of-use. If you've never played the game before you ought to give it a try just to find out how a series of minigames can make for a full-blown game, and why Sid Meyer's games are as popular as they are. I don't play it every day. When I do play it I stop when I beat it and leave it alone for a while. But when I do start playing, I get hooked deep until I beat the game again and hopefully best my high score once again (the real replay value comes from trying to end the game with a super-high score). Give it a try and hopefully the game will do the same for you. Have fun!

It's a good game overall, but the fight scenes are kind of lame. The multilayer is really cool with your friends. THe best thing about it is that it's one of the backwards compatible games for the Xbox 360 so you can play it on both consoles!

sucks

Know going in...

Before you buy this game, know going in that it is not one game, but a collection of mini-games. Unlike other Sid Meier turn-based titles (e.g. Civilization) where strategy and forethought are paramount to achieving one objective (in many different ways), Pirates keeps you busy performing mind-numbing, monotonous tasks. The fact that there's an overall "plot" or "quest" means very little. The plot in Pirates is about as meaningful as getting the high score for solitaire AND Tetris. Clearly (as other reviews suggest), some enjoy these little games -- and you might, too. Just don't go in with the wrong expectations like I did.
