I'm so glad my daughter asked for this game a couple yrs. ago. We absolutely love playing it together. :) It's a lot more fun than the board game. It's so neat having the interactive themes like dinosaurs, space, etc. And after choosing a theme, it's fun to see what your game & house/hotel choices will look like. Also, the spaces you land on all get new names w/each theme.
We usually play the Classic version where you all have different controllers but take turns playing. But if you want a very fast-paced game, you can pick the PARTY option in the game and everyone is throwing the dice & moving at the same time.
You can also change the rules of the games w/the choices they give you, or use default. Ex. You can have players win double the $$ if they LAND on GO.
I do wish the trade properties part was easier, but my kids understood it right away. So, that's key. :)
My kids & I would love if they made the game LIFE like this.
Hope you have as much fun w/this game as we have. Enjoy!
Another Monopoly Rendition

There so many renditions of the board game Monopoly in the console market that it may be difficult to figure out which is the best one. The new spin behind Monopoly Party is the fact that all the players can roll the dice and move their player pieces at the same time. Up to for players can be in the game; each player with their piece shown in their own mini-screen. Since everyone can roll and move at once, the gameplay is more fast pace and avoids the boredom of having to wait for other players (which is classic Monopoly). Another change they made in Monopoly Party; you can pick from five different game boards and players pieces with a theme like: sci-fi, fantasy and a few others. This adds nice asthetics, to the look of the game but does not really affect gameplay- so overall its just a weak gimmick. The gameplay still contains the same basic rules, where you buy, property, get chance cards or land in jail. If the game's creator really wanted to make this a better game, they should have included enhanced animations, user created rules and a bunch a mini-games to make it into a true party game. This is a fun rental because of its fast paced gameplay, but overall it is not worth a purchase.
So far the biggest complaints from most Monopoly players on the console is that the games are just fun for a short time and quickly become boring. Monopoly Party, is no exception it feels fun at first but then gets old fast. The whole problem with having board games translated onto a console game is the fact that you don't get to interact with your friends in the same way you would than if were to play the actual board games with all its physical pieces and cards. The exchange of jokes and engaging in conversations adds that social aspect which cannot be duplicated when playing a console game where all you do is stare at the television screen and press the controller's button. That's just my two cents.
Pros:
+easy to play
+four players at a time
+fast paced gameplay
+good graphics
+contains basic rules
+gameboard themes are cool
+best monopoly currently
available for consoles.
Cons:
-gets old fast
-needs enhanced animations
-needs mini-games to be
a true party game
-minimal sound effects

I've always been a big fan of board games on video consoles. Monopoly Party was next on the list, and while it was fun the first few times playing it, it does get old fairly quick. The NPCs if you choose to play with them are very predictable and annoying at times. I also found myself getting bored and clicking buttons to quicken the pace at times, primarily because the animations can take a while.
Some members of my household enjoy competing with each other for high scores, but the computer goes no higher than $99,999. Heck, I can get that in well under an hour of playing, and by that time I am too bored to care. I'll probably throw this game on once in a blue moon to kill some time, but that'll be about it for me.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoy this game. We rented it on a whim and couldn't stop playing. Needless to say, we ended up buying it in order to stop having to pay the rental fees. It's nice because we finally found a game we can play together and separately. The only DISADVANTAGE was that the standard US rules are not totally true. (ie. When you role doubles to get out of jail the monopoly rules say that you cannot role again; however, the xbox game allows you to. Also, you are not suppose to be able to go directly to a hotel without houses for a least one full turn; however the xbox game allows you to.) This being said there are also many ADVANTAGES in the game such as the range of rules you can have. It's nice to be able to set up the game as you would play it normally in your home and completely by your rules, however you may play.
This is a MUST HAVE!

I got this game to try to find an xbox game me and the Mrs. can enjoy. (She's doesn't have much patience for joysticks.) This is horrible. I didn't think it were possible, but this is more tedious than the board game. It's like playing the slot machines but without any money on the line. Bah!!!

The thing I disliked most about traditional Monopoly was the mess it creates. With Monopoly Party, the mess is gone! No more setup, cleanup, or hassle. It moves very quickly, so you can get in more time playing as opposed to rummaging in the bank. It has several different rule options, so it can be customized to your own preferred style of play. Sure, you can't read the property titles, but if you've played much, you know that it's not necessary to read them. The titles are mere decoration. The trading system can be a bit confusing at first, but once you figure it out, it's really quite simple. Some folks have complained about the computer players doing stupid things that no real player would ever do. The game offers three levels of computer player difficulty.....easy, medium, and hard. Simply play the hard characters. It's also nice to be able to play anytime you want, without having to drum up real live folks to play against you. The computer is always ready and willing!

BORING!!! It moves faster than the regular Monopoly game, but it takes away most of your control. After a while, the "just keep pressing the A button" mentality gets really old.

This is a must-have for monopoly afficionados that would like to be able to sit down and play a game in under an hour without clearing off the table.
You can play classic or party mode. In party mode, everyone takes there turn at the same time but it is orderly so you don't get confused and lost. The party mode makes the game go so much quicker.
The graphics are okay. Nothing great, though. It is true that zoomed out to view the whole board you can't read the property names. However you can play zoomed in. Also, property info is displayed when needed so you get everything you need there. If you play the game very much you'll get to know the whole board by memory anyway.
The computer is can be challenging but like any computer player does "stupid" computer things. For instance I can trade with a computer to complete my green color group and he completes his light blue color group and he'll give me cash. I should be giving the computer cash. There are other similar things but you can use them to your advantage for winning!
For party mode you need 1 controller per human player. My wife and I like to sit down and play a game or two quite often. They're quick and no setup or table cleaning involved.
If you like Monopoly then it is well worth the price. I bought it for a lower price at a local store in town.
Good game gone bad on the Xbox

Here is a case of a great game gone bad to the console. At least you can choose from 5 different boards or themes. However, the game quickly becomes redundant watching your piece move the alloted squares. Even though you can speed through the walking it still is quite boring. Trading and building are almost impossible as you can't read the streets on the screen that allows you to do that. Overall, spend your money on something else.
If you like board games, you'll love this!

It's fast, it's changeable, you can manipulate the degree of difficulty of your opponents and there's no cleanup when the game's over! Best of all, it's Monopoly!
