I will not compare to any playstation or arcade version of DDR, since I do not play or own any of those. I bought this because I love to dance.
I think that the rhythms and beats are very catchy and the steps are designed well with the music. I even enjoy the cheesy (but catchy) lyrics in many of the songs (can anybody tell me why we build Castles in the Sky?) The songs seem to be representative of popular music genres and the given artists are clever imposters. It is amusing to try and guess at what popular song or artist each song is trying to imitate. (For example they have an artist named "Thuggie D" that sound suspiciously similar to "Heavy D") I downloaded new songs from XBox live and I am pleased with those. I was able to use those downloaded songs in the next version of DDR for Xbox which I recently bought.
I enjoy the variety of styles from hip-hop, latin, disco, R&B, jazz, world beats, sugary up-beat Japanese techno. etc. There is enough of a selection that I don't really get bored repeating the songs.
I will say that I don't like some of the really darker monotonous techno beats, like Paul Oakenfeld. Sadly Oakenfeld is a "real" artist on the playlist and his songs are some of the least entertaining in the game.
I have been able to master many of the songs up to level 3, but it was challenging to get there, and after a year of playing this game, there still remain a few songs that continue to elude me.

This is the first DDR game released for the Xbox. Good game. Gots good songs on it, good style with it. For 19.99, thats a killer price for this game. I got it for 39.99 :-( . But yea this games definately a good DDR game. You can unlock new songs and features the more you play and the better you get at it. I recommend this game to new players and expirienced ones.
it a good game but...

It's good but it doesn't have a beginner mode. Intermediate is way to fast for a beginner.
Great Party Game!

We had played this before at our friend's, but they had PS2. We were all surprised to find the Xbox version worked just as well, or even better! Our mom bought this for last Christmas, and we tend to pull this out mostly when friends come over. It really is most fun when more than one person dances. Some of the songs are very 'Japanese', and we would like to see more U.S. songs included in future mixes.
Our mom is really happy that this is one of the few games for Xbox that gets us on our feet! And it is helping us feel the beat with our own music and our regular dancing.

We started with Ultra Mix 2 and were really quite disappointed in the sound quality of Ultra Mix.

This game is wonderful. Put very simply, it is a great party game, a great one player game, and a game even your girlfriend will actually play with you. Having a bunch of friends over to play it is fun and hiliarous to watch, playing by yourself is just as addictive, and now that I bought the game and a couple of dance pads, my girlfriend actually enjoys whipping out the Xbox instead of moaning with boredom. Pick it up if you have the cash!
Good game.

Being an 11 year old ddr veteran, i have little complaints about this game. the graphics are smoother, and a good song selection.(note- i didn't say great.) A few complaints that only arcade veterans would get-
Max300 on heavy is different then in the arcades.
You have to unlock Paranio Rebirth, Healing Vision Angelic Mix, Sana Mollete Ne Ente BLT Style and Max300.
Otherwise, I recomend it.
I. LOVE. THIS. GAME!!!!

The pe teacher offers ddr classes at my school, and she just *happens* to own this one game. This is a compilation of some of thier past songs. Here are allll my favorites:
Ian Van Dahl feat. Marsha - Castles In The Sky(I think this one is based on the movie castle in the sky. I have that movie.)
Paul Oakenfold - Ready Steady Go
dj. TAKA - 0.59( I LOVE this one!!! It sounds like x-files)
Riyu Kosaka - Candy *Heart* (vocal version)(I sing along to this one)
BeForU - DIVE
RevenG - exotic ethnic
SySF feat. Anna - Look To The Sky (True Color Mix)
Togo Project feat Sana - Sana Mollete ne Ente(I love the little "Suki suki" Sounds in the backgrond at the end)
Crystal Aliens - SEXY PLANET (oh oh oh oh! oh oh oh oh!)
DE-SIRE - Healing Vision (Everyone one in my pe group is addicted to this one!)
NAOKI 190 - Hysteria
2MB - La Senorita Virtual(this one is really hard, but is addicting and the song is AMAZING.)
jun - Sweet Sweet *heart* Magic(Ive had this song stuck in my head ALL DAY.)
RevenG vs DE-SIRE - Tsugaru
And Colors (for EXTREME), but I dont know who its by.
I just wish this one had Waka Laka and Butterfly, because those ones are basically what pops into my mind when I think of ddr. I cant find the soundtrack anywhere....
Look for another DDR mix

DDR is without a doubt one of the most fun games I've ever played, and I've been playing it for a little over two years now. If you want to get into DDR or are into it already and want a new mix, look somewhere else. Good songs in here are a rarity. If you really want to play DDR, get Max, Max2, or Extreme on the PS2. If you only have an Xbox and are going to shell out the money for this game anyway, don't say I didn't warn you.
Best game 4 XBOX out there

This is the best game, no questions asked. When u play it, it's addiceting. I've had it 4 one month and right after skool I'm in my basement playin it. At first, it's hard, but when u get used 2 it u will be in love, garentied. 4 first timers I'd recomend the song "ON THE JAZZ," By Johny Dynimite. DDR is addecting so have fun and remember to eat and pee inbetween songs. LOL.
