Great game. If you enjoy taking on a human, strange beast or dinosaur with everything from a bowie knife to a rocket launcher, TUROK is your ticket. A good-looking game for the N64 platform with lots of action and wild levels. An overall awesome retro game.

Turok Dinosaur Hunter.......

Little do people know that, while Quake was the first fully 3-D First-Person Shooter for the PC, the first one for the console was Turok Dinosaur Hunter. Like Quake, it was a game that was totally immersive, in which you felt like you were part of the action going on. You could look up or down, jump, and other things that you just couldn't do in FPS at the time. While Turok might not have turned heads quite as much as Quake did, for Nintendo 64 owners- this game deserved ever bit of the credit it deserved. I remember playing this game when it first came out and being totally in awe of the graphics and how deep this game was. It was like being on a huge jungle safari but, instead of lions and tigers, you had dinosaurs and other enemies you faced. Keep in mind, this is before Goldeneye, Perfect Dark or the Quake series itself came out on the N64. I really enjoyed the game myself and, eventually, bought it as well as the other three Turok games that followed to add to my collection. As I play so many games(course if you've seen my long list of reviews you'd know that), from time to time I get out my old systems and play all my old favorites to see how they stack up to games today. If I find that I didn't write a review on them at that time, I write one and give my feelings on it. Which is why I'm writing one on this game.

For it's time, Turok Dinosaur Hunter was one of the better games released for the N64 and is definitely one FPS that every N64 owner should have in their collection.

A Lil Boring now..

Yeah it is boring nowadays,i loved it about 4/5 years ago but thast was the time my only console was a Nintendo 64 and i still had better games-Its repetitive just walking into a village, cave or watever and Blowing up,shooting, stabbing and bowing the h£LL out of the human hunters,Dinosaurs,Those little beast monstas or anything,oh it just bores me now.The music gives me a headache, and i get these grenades and i don`t know how to throw them.I set up my N64 again yestaday alongside my PS2 and GameCube as i am boared as i have lended out Metal Gear Solid 3:Snake Eater-my favorite game at the moment. And i have to get 007 GoldenEye back as well which is my Third fave game ever(After Metal Gear Solid 2:Sons Of Liberty).I do not recommend this get 007 GE instead,or if you are a fan of fantasy-magic(MGS is not fantasy magic,it has supernatural things but they are called fantasy in realism, like Jame Bond or the Matrix) go for games like Turok,Resident Evil,Eternal Darkness,DOOM,Quake etc.
If i had to list out my fave. last gen games(PlayStation,Nintendo 64&DreamCast) in any order wud be:

Metal Gear Solid(PS,1998)
007 GoldenEye(N64,1997)
Mission:Impssible(PS1,N64,uhh?)
Rainbow Six(PC,PS1,N64 in 1999)
Super Mario 64(N64,1996)

And i played hundreds of games last gen. they are my top favorite 5.So go for MGS,007 GE,R6 or Missiion:Impssible if you are intersted in a last gen realistic action game.
But a recommend T:DH if you like fantasy.

a good game but extremely hard 3 and 1/2 stars

i enjoy playing turok in the earlier 2000s day that is when i most played da game but their i realize it was extremely hard to the point i needed cheat codes to finish the entire game but i have to admit that the graphics of the game are real looking even today the graphics of turok can still be considered great i love that they have a transfer device it is a blue looking circle painting that is as big as turok so he can successfully in da transfer device is noisy but is useful it takes u from no place to another especially if he are about to fail i really dig da beats of da game it is full with creative drum sounds from da game that is another reason why i kept on failing i was so busy getting my music on i forgot i was even playing da game as u play da hard levels of turok u will see as da music of each level develops more and more for a better and catchy tune while da game is very fun at times it can also be challegne as u have to accurate shoot at da dinosaurs and at ur opponents if u miss it seems like they come at u much faster with our a little time 4 u 2 react but if u shoot accuaretly at them they will slow down and eventually die but it is fun 2 c turok fail time to time as it is fun 2 c mario fail a lot in super mario 64 it is no difficult in this game u make 1 false move and u r through u watch as turok scream like a girl when he falls from da upper world 2 below da clouds 2 da undergrounds and u course no that he loses a life each time he fails do u i regret givin away 2 game at da game store just because it was so hard i had the cheat codes so i eventually got to c da last level of da game i should have kept this game as this was a classic i feel like a girl who knew away her baby then decides to take it back turok is no superman or mario but he is different he is a jungle superhero who is there to protect the world and kill all the dinosaurs and enemy 2 get to his goal of saving the world much like mario and even blast corps that games i still do have in the game there is a training mode where u can train turok 2 improve whatever skill he seems to be lacking on whether it is climbing, shooting, jumbing, or target pratice using da arrows it is all there in da training mode 2 improve turok fighting ability 4 da harder levels of da game otherwise da hard level this is one of da better action games i have ever played and it tooks u on adventure when u advance urself 2 a different of da game so enjoy Joe Brown

Yeah i really liked this game.I enjoy most first person shooters but not completly fastasy ones such as Halo todays best XBox game Resident Evil,Silent Hill,Quake 3 or Duke Nukem they are all krappy unrealistic games.the only FPS(First Person Shooter)& Action games i like is 007 GoldenEye,Turok:Dino. Hunter(yes maybe its fantasy but i love the rural enviroment and dino killing),All Metal Gear Solid games(i just love the stealth&action in the game, and its addictive),all Medal Of Honor games, all ConFlict games & Splinter Cell games.Even though all these games, obviously arnt real but they are not COMPLETE FANTASY like Halo,Silent Hill,Duke Nukem and Quake games thats why i don`t like them.So lets go back to the review
I think Torok:Dinosaur Hunter is a great piece of work its much beter then Turok:Rage Warz(which is just bot killing, not guards and is another krappy complete fantasy game) here in UK this game is rated by BBFC and is a 15+/in USA&Canada the game is M-Mature for 17+ that is because when you kill a guard or animal lots of fatty blood comes out,you can also change blood color;Red,Green, you can have blood censorred or you can have it in a purple spray color its easy to bust a hole in the guards/animals(such as deer & dinosaur ect.)and get blood drained get a sharp weapon,i.e a WarHammer,Knife or axe or just a gun any it is set before human reign making Turok(you) and the guards the ownly people on earth so you have to kill animals to get food, kill guards for weapons or go exploring for exotic stuff. Its a great game but i have not played it since 2000/2001 when i was 7/8 so i can only just remember all the stuff on it.
I have a PlayStation 2,GameCube and a old Nintendo 64 which still works and my best 3 games on N64 are
1)007 GoldenEye
2)Turok:Dinosaur Hunter
3)Super Mario-64.
A great game if you still game on an N64 you can get it cheap if not just keep climbin up.

Landmark Acclaim Game - Unreal Visual Simulation

In 1997 Acclaim brought the very first Arcade quality first person shooter to the N64 with Turok, a primordial theme that defined future genres that would have to actually animate the end level bosses making them more realistic, trying to match what Speilberg did four years earlier, and come very close, meaning Turok was probably some of the best animation ever seen in a 1st person shooter. The story, the levels, the enemy AI, all of this was very impressive for its time and ACCLAIM have stayed ball players because of it. The graphics had people in AWE. This was the end of 1996 start of 1997. I had never played or seen anything like this before. The N64 was an awesome engine. ACCLAIM delivered a stunning entry game. Never forget it. WOW.

This was the first game I picked up for the N64 when I initially got one.
I must say, disregard any and all crap people say about this game, or the Turok series, for that matter.
This is absolutely the best first-person shooter series on the N64.
The jungle environments are lush and colorful....the graphics in Turok are undeniably the best (next to Turok 2, my all-time favorite N64 game) People b*tch and moan about the fog, but I see no problems at all with it. It's a JUNGLE. It's SUPPOSED to be muggy....hence, the fog. Sure, in reality, the dense fog is used to cover up jaggies and lack of system power, but I feel its a nice touch.
The levels are huge and well-designed....it's fun exploring every possible nook and cranny in each of the levels.
The control of the game is EXCELLENT. It took a while to get used to the odd control, but now, if I had a preference, I would love to use the N64 controller to navigate any and ALL first-person shooters....I love the control scheme.
There are multitudes of enemies in the game. Sure, you won't have to fight more than 2 or 3 enemies at a time at intervals, but that's not a problem whatsoever.
The weapons in the game are what really sell. Before I got this game for myself, I had played it over at a friend house, and when he busted out a damn MINI-GUN to mow down a raptor, I was like "HOLY CRAP!" Not only are the weapons awesome, but the animations of the weapons firing are the best I've seen in any FPS, and the first of it's kind, back then. Shells pop out of the shotgun and go flying. Bullet casings spit out of the mini-gun at a rapid rate. The kickback of some of the weapons is so real, you almost feel like you're actually firing the guns. Hell, if you run out of ammo, you still have your bow and arrow, or Tek Bow (with exploding arrows)

There is hardly anything wrong with this game....and nothing I can think of right now!

Overall, 9.5 out of 10.

do have no life?do you enjoy wandering aimlessly through hundreds of tiny dark rooms looking for switches only all the rooms look exactly alike?got a lot of time on your hands?then this is the game for you.the weopons rule!of course unless you cheat theyre never there when you need them.the fighting and shooting up dinosaurs is cool but all the wandering and guessing sucks.i had the most fun just cheating by putting in stuff to make all the weopons there and all of them infinitely loaded.even with total immunity to death youll still just search and search and still wont beat it.unless youre infinitely patient.

I think Turok dinosaur hunter is hard, and fun. I've been looking at walkthroughs so i can beat level 2 and 3.The blood, violence, and killing in the game are the best part, because its so cool and relistic. The graphics of the game are cool to.
The weapons kick some butt too! If your looking for some bloody action, get this game! I just wish this game had multiplayer like the other turoks, if you want all multiplayer, get Turok Rage Wars.
