Wondering why so many claim the game to be buggy, when it has performed perfectly on my PC running XP? Maybe it's not the game......Great to have Diplomacy on the PC!!

Good Buy

It's a good game, hours of fun. There are a couple of bugs in it though, but it for the most part is a fun and challenging game. I paid less than $5 for it, well worth the money.

When first I played this game, I just loved it. This is the best strategy and tactics game. The best it is played with friends or, over the net. It is fun, when you try to outsmart the others in order to conquer.

I didn't find it as buggy

I received this game as a Christmas gift last year and because of all the negative reviews I didn't install it for some time. There were a few positive reviews about the multi-player session, however I was looking mainly to play this by myself. I haven't played Diplomacy in years because I haven't had anyone to play with.

I've only played a few games, but I really have only seen one error. Reloading the game from before the error happened fixed the problem and no other issues occurred with that game.

The AI is a bit simplistic and the animations are a bit annoying after a while, especially when they seem to get "stuck" and take a little while longer than normal. But it's still fun to be able to strategize and play.

I think at a discounted rate this game is worth it, but don't expect anything more than basic gameplay and be prepared for a few bugs.

Fairly good game. Tutorial had some problems but otherwise all right. Bought it because my new computer would not play the old version I had.

NOT SUCH A BAD GAME!

I recently purchased this game and it runs very well on my PC. For those who experienced bugs it could just be a matter of updating your PC's drivers and other components. As for a review of the game: if you have played the board game version you cannot beat the face to face experience so this game becomes Plan B if you can't get the board game happening. If you are new to this game, then I would say that you would enjoy this game a great deal but you must be patient and progress through the tutorials and learn how to communicate with the other powers and express your orders correctly. It took me a little while to learn "the ropes". I used to have the Hasbro version of this game and in some ways, I like it better than this one. This version has been targeted more toward teens than adults. The Hasbro version had a more mature look and feel to it with old period photographs and music. This Atari version has character animations that express their content or disgust with each set of moves, which for me, got old pretty quick! Overall, this new version handles diplomatic negotiations with more flexibility. You have far greater control on diplomatic proposals and strategy. The Hasbro version had a power suggest a course of action and you either agreed or disagreed with it. The Atari version lets you highly detail your strategic proposals. Each game version has it's own merits. The game is a lot of fun. Once I start a game I cannot walk away from it until I win! I particularly enjoy this type of game because I enjoy reading and studying history. This game captures the great powers of Europe on the brink of World War One! Here is a link for the Hasbro version if you want to check it out. Diplomacy Also here is a link to an excellent book on the origins of World War One The Guns of August

Not a bad first try.

It has been a long time since anyone has put any money into Diplomacy, and I have to give Avalon Hill / Microprose / Hasbro the thumbs up for writing a pretty good game. Experienced players (who've been playing by mail and email for years) will find some of the tactics laughable - when England bounces HIMSELF out of Norway in Fall 1901 I know there's something wrong - but I still found the game very enjoyable. If this game had been released 10 years ago it would have taken the game world by storm. Unfortunately these days I think it will not be given a fair chance. If you're learning or just can't find 7 players, this is the game for you. If you've been playing for 10 years, buy it for the novelty.

The game is fun and captures the spirit of the board game, but i often find that i have a hard time telling the computer where i want each piece to move and which pieces are going to support each other. Definantly a good buy if it comes back into stock.

The premise is set in Europe pre WWI. There are 7 countries, each with 3 "armies" all are equal. From there it's played similar to chess, but since all pieces are of equal strength the only way to conquer is to gang up on a "square". One way to gang up is to get a rival to help you. But what you agree to and what you (or he) does may be two different things. Like chess the rules are simple but the execution is at any level.

The original game of Diplomacy was always intriguing to me and my friends, but the mechanics of submitting orders and resolving things and finding 7 friends at once made it somewhat unplayable.

This electronic version makes the execution of the commands much more straightforward. It allows for many types of pacts / treaties, either for a single move or a longer term general agreement. The AI allows you to play without requiring a group of committed people.

The sound and graphics are definitely basic. It's a real time game with no way to pause for a potty break. There is no review at the end of the game (like civilization) for you to see how things played out or what trechery happened. No stats.

It works, it's AI is good, but not great, but there are no perks normally associated with computer games, just the basic execution of the board game.

Won't replace the standard internet game

Anything that introduces Diplomacy to the next generation is to be welcomed, but this game is a bit week. I would suggest getting the board game instead and joining in one of the many e-mail games on line. You will enjoy it more without this interface.
