Interesting concept, but poorly implemented

Beach Head 2000 puts you in the role of defending a beach head against an onslaught of unidentified enemies, both on foot, land and water. It's an interesting concept...I can't think of any other game quite like it. The box is very appealing and even coxed me into buying the product, even though I was well aware of Wizard Work's shaky reputation. The graphics on the back of the box are not the same as on the game. The scenery is very pixelated and dull. In general, the grpahics are very early 90's in style. The gun turrent you operate can be manipulated via keyboard, mouse or joystick. The mouse control is terrible, and there is no real way to control it. One move too quick and the whole turrent spins around. I spent more time trying to line the gun up right than I did shooting. The keyboard commands seem to stiff and non-responsive. The gameplay is very monotonous, with a constant wave of troops lands on the beach. Higher levels include helicopters and jets, but they are equally unimpressive and monotonous. The game does have a save feature, which is handy. I will give them credit for that. I gave the game two stars because it is an interesting concept, but poorly implemented. I bought the game hoping it would be a quick fix for the times I want to just blow up everything. But you'll spend more time trying to master the controls than enjoying the gameplay. With a little more work, this could have been a great game. But like the game itself, that is the most frustrating part.

an enjoyable waste of time

This game has no recognizable plot, but its very fun to play. It resembles some of the classic "shoot down an entire army with one guy" games of old. Its a nice way to waste time for a very cheap price.

Sloppy, monotonous, frustrating beach head 2k.

The game has one background where you're supposed to shell troops, tanks, helicopters and planes. The bullets are terribly rendered balls of yellowness, the graphics are amazingly slipshod, there is no music and the sound effects are very sub par. There is no option for 3d hardware support, nor is there an option for mouse sensitivity. Speaking of the sensitivity, it is way too sensitive for my liking and they have some odd system of mouse aiming. Another nice feature is that whenever you put the disc in to play, it starts installation. When gameplay starts an error message pops up for some reason, and has no effect on the game, its incredibly annoying after the umpteenth time. This game seems to be put together by a game dilettante who happens to love war movies. This apparently was a game prior to 2000 with the title sans 2000. This game is only for those who are nostalgic for the original beach head. But this still lacks features of gameplay that the original beachhead offered. I implore you to go buy other war games, there are many out there much more deserving of your money.

Limited playability

For 20 bucks, you don't get much. Limited playablity, poor graphics, seems to cause memory errors on my machine. Bogs down when you have many opponents in play (I have a top of the line Pentium), Pretty much when you get to the higher levels, you've done it all...which you can do in one afternoon if your a shooter/player like me. Hard to fire and aim with mouse controls.......I wouldn't buy this one...wish I'd read the reviews on this one!

Entertaining...for a time.

Frankly, this game lacks, alot. The graphics are fair, but repeatitive. Game play is straight forward and engaging for a while, but soon gets boring. It is a good game for releasing some tensions but that is about the limit of it's use.

Nifty game, but gets old in a hurry.

This is your basic no-brainer type of video game for PC, although you'd probably expect to find it on a Nintendo or Playstation platform instead. Very arcade-like feel, with really no intellectual involvement required.

Imagine D-Day 50+ years later, except this time you're the one defending the beach, and you're all alone. Your main weapon is a wierd machinegun-like weapon, but you also have a sidearm, antitank gun, air to air missiles, and maybe some artillery. Ammo is finite, but can be resupplied by airdrops from friendly planes, but if you run out, you're dead meat -- plain and simple.

Landing craft filled with infantry or armored vehicles land on the beach and disgorge their occupants, who immediately begin trying to close on your position. As the infantry get close they start shooting and lobbing grenades. APCs try to carry more grunts around to your rear, while tanks blast away at close range. To make matters worse, jets, bombers and helicopter gunships start strafing and bombing you, while transport choppers keep dropping more bad guys behind you. The first wave is pretty easy, and each successive level gradually gets a little bigger and tougher. Eventually and inevitably you get overwhelmed by their numbers -- game over.

The graphics are pretty good, and the sound effects are likewise well done. I personally like the "shaking" effect when your position takes a hard hit. The game definitely has some features to recommend it, but it fails to hold your interest after a while. It gets just plain repetitive, although I suppose that can be a good thing if you enjoy those types of games. For me, well, it got old pretty quickly.

im in the military, and sometimes i dream of what it would be like to be on a beach head all alone, facing down a never ending enemy. all you can do is pull the trigger and hope you stall their siege. this game is worth 10 bucks, i would even buy it for 20. if you ever feel like taking on a whole army and its heavy support of apaches, tanks, fighter jets, b-52s, APCs, landing craft complete with a whole platoon, pick this up. TRUST ME you wont regret it.........

Smacking your head against an iron will be more replayable

I work in quality assurance (AKA: Testing) for a video card company. As a result, I play lots and lots of games. When I came across Beachhead 2000 here on amazon and saw that it had 4 stars, I almost swallowed my tongue.

Now you don't have to take my word for this. Just about all the PC Game magazines out there had a unanimous verdict on this game. Which pretty much boiled down to "um... this sucks."

The game is completely arcade styled. This is not a bad thing on its own. However the bad guys you have to shoot down stay pretty much the same throughout the entire game... just more of them moving faster. Anyone who claims that this is in any way representative of any conflict, anywhere - on a beach, in the air or on a city street should seek medical attention immediately.

While ($) does seem like a great price for software, keep in mind that the old saying "You get what you pay for" is not only true... but at ($)you are STILL being overcharged for what this pile of digital doodoo has to offer.

You want your moneys worth for ($)? Shop around for a copy of "Half-Life". The game as it comes is worth many times the price and once your done with the game that comes in the box, you can download a wide variety of add-on material that gets you a whole new game. Did I mention you can download all these add-ons FOR FREE?

That really is about it. Run, don't walk, away from this product... save yourself.

This is a cool game where you shoot falling object to get ammo and have good controlls (see my review for beach head 2002) but this gets tiring REALLY fast. I mean fast. The difference between the(inflinate)levels are the # of men no more weapons of bonuses or change or scenery all the same. This gets boring FAST.youll be bored by the time you finish loking at the box! Its all the same thing. Even if you like games like these when your REALLY bored you may pop this in for a 2 minute break(it beats homework)but thats about it. Well hope this told you something and was helpfull.

this game...
