When I first saw an advertisement for Metal Gear Acid I couldn't wait to purchase that game but when I played it I was a little put off by the way the game was played. My gut reaction was to get rid of the game but at the time there were few games for the PSP that were worth playing so I gave the game a chance. After getting used to Acid's card-based play I actually found myself enjoying this game. It was to the point I couldn't see myself playing this game any other way. I enjoyed the game through and through but the end battle was unnecessarily long and literally took two hours to play. Worst I couldn't even save in the middle of the battle and come back to it.
Acid 2 seemed to fix one problem I had with the first game. It is much more fast-paced. However the game opens with a tutorial which I find annoying since I played the first game. You have no choice but to play through the tutorial every time you start a new game. From the start of the game many people might not find this game enjoyable. You start off with a deck that is pretty much useless. If you do like I do and play side missions over and over to collect cards and points to buy new cards eventually the game starts to pick up. You can also upgrade your cards but often times it does really improve them. With any card game it is all about the deck having the right card for the right situation. A lot of the game is going to be spent playing side missions to build up your deck and tailor it to your playing style. Once you build the perfect deck the game becomes really easy. Each time you complete the game new card packs are unlocked with more powerful cards available but most of those cards you'll probably sell them because their not very useful or require certain condition to be met before they become useful.
Graphically the game is very good. It is as good as anything I've seen on the PS2. The game makes good use of cell shading. The characters don't look blocky and their animations are done very well... especially the women. The sound effects and the special effects in this game work very well together. Even though this PSP doesn't have a rumble feature, the effects of this game almost create the illusion of a rumble feature.
There is a lot of text in this game and long drawn out cut scenes where you almost wish there was voice acting. It probably could have been done if they didn't waste memory with Solid Eye Theatre. I thought the 3-D goggles that came with the game was a waste. Who is going to want to play this game with these things attached to the PSP? It was a useless gimmick in my opinion and I wonder whose bright idea was this. Fortunately this doesn't hurt the game in any way.
Acid 2 is a very fun game once you get use to it. There's plenty here to keep you entertained. For me it's the perfect game to play while I'm on the bus because it's not too engaging and doesn't require my full attention.

I got this game, played it for 15 minutes, then never played it again. This is absolutely NOTHING like the other games. Who in the heck wants to be able to only move 4 spaces and take silly "turns" with the enemy?
There is no free movement in this game and the action is a big zero.
Worst game to date I have ever played. I don't see how anyone can rate this game well. It is about as fun as checkers. And since you are only allowed to move a few spaces at a time and use stupid cards to do certain actions, it plays like checkers.
Don't waste your money on this game. I sure did.

Hell yes, this is a really deep and great game. It has good missions, is very strategic, and has an excellent replayability factor. I must admit that I am one of the few that found the first Ac!d more enjoyable, but this is still a great game. One of my small beefs with the game is that the physics for the female character's breasts are incredibly ludicrous. They jiggle and bounce in a way that is just unnatural. I am a male gamer, but I still find the fact that every woman in video games has to be very "top heavy" and "bouncy" to be a bit sexist and wrong. Other than that though, I think this is a keeper and a game that will entertain you for hours.

Great game. It implements some interesting twists to the SRPG genre, and still manages to remain relatively faithful to the original MGS series, regarding the stealth element. Gameplay is collectable card related, and there are tons of extra missions, stealth, elimination etc. The 3D visor box-thing is very cool, the movies and gameplay are nice, but its uncomfortable to use. Standard 3D glasses might have been a better choice.

Metal Gear Acid was not a game for everyone. Nearly one full year after the original release of the game, Metal Gear Acid 2 is already in the picture. Metal Gear Acid, as I noted, it wasn't for everyone. Even die-hard Metal Gear fans had trouble getting adapted to Metal Gear Acid. However, despite that, it still did well enough to merit a sequel. The good news is: If you like Metal Gear Acid, you'll be pleased with the sequel. If,however, Metal Gear Acid wasn't your cup of tea, I assure you this cup will taste no different.
Snake and allies are getting back from a mission well done. Snake, howevr, has amnesia, and can't seem to remember anything about his past. When they get back to America, someone impersonating the FBI arrests Snake and company. The only way Snake can save his allies, and himself is if he does whatever this fake agent asks of him. It's mission time.
Much like in the first game, the story is told through scrolling text on the screen. The portraits may look beautiful, but for me this is one aspect that bogged down the gameplay of the original Metal Gear Acid. The PSP is capable of full motion videos with voice acting. It's a shame that Metal Gear Acid, a game worthy of cinematic acheivements didn't get a cinematic treatment. The text scenes are rather long and drawn out. The game is a beautiful, at least, but you can't admire the graphics forever. It would've been better had they been full motion videos.
The gameplay has remained unchanged from the original. Save for one addition. You still use cards to take an action, and the number of actions you can take are limited. You'll use cards to move around, fire weapons and even sneak around in a cardboard box. It's easier to use weapons than the original Metal Gear Acid, but if you haven't played the original one, once again, the game doesn't help you get as well adapted as it should. The learning curve of Metal Gear Acid 2 for those who haven't played the first one, is pretty high. Speaking of which, most missions will take you quite some time. Especially because you control more than just Snake. You'll also control a character named Venus who will aid Snake. Missions aren't short. Come to think of it, they're long.
The new addition, of course, is the Solid Eye. Which allows you to view certain moments of the game in full 3D. This is pretty cool at first, but there's never really any need to use it. There are some unlockables, such as being able to see classic moments from the original MGS and such. But that's about it. Really, there could've been a better use to the Solid Eye. There's never really a moment where you absolutely have to use it.
You'll be kept busy by this game if you're one who has to collect everything. With 500 cards, you won't get bored too soon.
Metal Gear Acid 2 looks and sounds amazing. One moment where Metal Gear Acid definitely received praise were the graphics. Here, it's pretty much the same thing. The game looks pretty good and sounds good. There are far less frame rate issues than the previous one, and the still scenes just look amazing. The soundtrack still has that stealth like approach, and so do the sound effects.
Metal Gear Acid 2 suffers from one huge dilemna, though. You'll come to this game with just about the same reaction you came to the first one with. If a tactical/stealth RPG where cards are the basis of your actions doesn't work for you, you won't like this game. In other words, if the reason you didn't like Metal Gear Acid was because it was Metal Gear with cards, then you're only wasting time by buying this as the gameplay is virtually the same thing. Metal Gear Acid 2 isn't a bad game, but much like the first one, even Die Hard MGS fans might find this game to be a bit... "weird" in the Metal Gear franchise. However, if you did like the first Metal Gear Acid... then Metal Gear Acid 2 is a treat. The game is rather slow (a lot of the time) and takes a long time to get started, but it certainly has its merits.

If you're a PSP owner, then you're no doubt aware that a lot of PSP games are either rush jobs for a quick buck or poorly-done ports of old PS1 games. Developers also want to take a system not designed for handling a lot of polygons and lots of analog action and try to make action games for them...so you'll be pleased to discover that Metal Gear Acid 2 is a game that is made for the limitations of the PSP and works WITH the system to give a sound, fun and solid(us?) gaming experience.
First off, the game eschews long, drawn-out dialogue scenes for long, drawn-out text passages. It seems like bloviating and long-winded proselytizing are trademarks of the MGS line, so adding a fast text skip button gets you into the action quickly. However, there IS some small snippet here or there of dialogue and it breaks things up a bit. I'm glad they chose not to go with full motion polygon movies and speech because they used that saved space very wisely. The game looks..well, gorgeous, with the characters sharp, cel-shaded, loudly-colored and detail all over the place. The art is classic Konami excellence with none of that messy, brush splatter confusion of Ashley Wood anywhere to be seen. You get crisp, cool, cartoony Snake and Friends and it looks marvelous. Anime speed lines, camera cuts and a very decent in-game camera control make this game a treat to play. Also included is a cardboard version of those Magic Eye puzzles where you get a split screen image and the included cardboard box overlay makes it pseudo-3D (you can also use your eyes, if you're good at those Magic Eye things.) This is just a little extra and you don't lose anything by leaving it out. The designers also included a ton of secret cards and the capability to access MGS3 for the PS2 via USB to USB mini cable for photo transfer! The sounds are generic, as is the music, but it fits and doesn't stomp all over the game.
The game itself doesn't rely on quick reflexes so much as it does planning, some strategy and luck (on card draws). The game and manual are no real help for newbies and unless you can find someone else to explain it better, you'll be sort of lost through the first few missions as you learn the game's fine points. I particularly enjoy the turn-based aspect of this game. As I've grown older, I've lost a lot of the ability to play fast reflex games and the PSP, with its small screen, isn't ideally suited for games where a camera angle is the difference between life and death. That's just frustrating (see: MGS:Portable Ops for this problem). This game allows for planning moves and seeing the battlefield; this is something I appreciate. This game seems more fun and relaxing than worrying that the wall you can't see around has 14 guards to ruin your gametime.
This game is interesting, unique and oddball enough with plenty of flair to attract those not really into fast action games. However, it's also a good diversion from the usual PSP fare.
I highly recommend this!
