The Mega Man X Collection was fantastic. It was a port, of course, but not a bad port. Now for the PSP we receive Maverick Hunter X which is nothing more than a recreation of a Super Nintendo classic. However, it is a fantastic recreation!
In 1993 CAPCOM began the Mega Man X series, which was a more action packed beefed up version of the original Mega Man games. The series takes place in the year 21XX, about one-hundred years after the original series. A band of renegade reploids known as Mavericks are waging war with humans, and they're being led by an evil reploid (and former hunter) named Sigma. It is up to Mega Man X to lead the band of Maverick Hunters against these mavericks.
To the veterans of the original 1993 classic on the SNES, the gameplay is virtually the same. In some areas it feel too familiar as the level layouts and enemy placements and patterns are about the same. This isn't such a bad thing, of course, if you enjoyed the original game. Like most every other Mega Man game, you'll choose a level and work your way to the boss and then collect his weapon.
Bosses typically use the same pattern they did in the original. They might alter them a little, but not so much that they don't seem familiar.
The 3D graphics are incredible. The enemies, backgrounds, platforms, everything from the loveable SNES version is there, only completely rendered in 3D. You'll recognize all the foes and all the levels. It's beautiful and perfect for a handheld such as the PSP.
The music is a mixed bag It's remixed from the SNES version, but you'll either like it or hate it. Some tracks sound really good, others really don't. The ones that sound good you'll love, but the ones that don't will definitely show.
A few differences are in place. If you remember where the location of the capsules were, you might as well forget them. Capsules are--for those who are new to the series--what will give X his power ups for his legs, X-Buster, helmet and body armor. They're not in the same location as the SNES. The capsules are located in different levels, and some of the power ups you'll have to have.
A game like Maverick Hunter X isn't very long at all. Luckily, there are a few extras that are worthwhile. The story is now told in Anime cutscenes. After completing the game you'll be able to view a half-hour cutscene that gives lots of backstory to the series. Likewise, after completing the game you'll be able to play as Vile! Vile is known as one of X's adversaries, but you'll be able to play as him here. He's got some pretty cool things he can do being that he's got weapons everywhere.
However, there will be times upon playing this game where those who were practically in love with the original will probably want to boot up the old SNES original. I say go for it, to compare. It'll help you appreciate just how beautiful this game is.
This is a remake of a game done right. The way it's done is absolutely perfect and something any Mega Man X fan should invest in. Yes, it is worthwhile. Sometimes even better than the SNES original.

Capcom really did an outstanding job with this release. It features the same classic gameplay of the original and they do the original justice by enhancing the game without destroying the gameplay that makes the original such a Classic. Hardcore fans may dissaprove of the story changes but this is why in the opening sequence Capcom notes that this game is, "Based on Mega Man X" therefore they are asking the fans for permission to retell the story from the beginning and improving it with better dialog and plot developments and interplay between X and the bosses.
I played the original for a few hours from the Playstation 2's outstanding Mega Man X Collection and right after playing the original I jammed on my PSP so I could see the differences from a fresh perspective. The level changes are many and mostly minor and moving the Dr. Light capsules as well as some energy and heart tanks around made the game more challenging for those who have memorized the maps of the original. The delay in powering up the buster reported by earlier reviews was nonexistent or so minor a change I really did not notice.
As a fan of the original since the days of the SNES I was not dissapointed one bit.
This is not just remake

The difference with Megaman X snes version:
・Story (MegamanX series and hunterX series aren't same)
・3D Graphic
・Item, Parts place
・Vaile mode (This is really interesting, but too difficult)
・Voice (All character speak somehing)
・X&Vaile Anime (Opening, Ending, Prorog, Epirog)
I think this game is awsome.
Why Sigma becaome Maveric? The answer is in.

I must say that this is a pretty decent installment in the neverending megaman series. Once again, a crazed robot wants to take over the world, and it's up to Megaman and his friends to save it. The cool anime cut scenes make up for the bad storylines though. When I was playing this game, i noticed some of the same classic gameplay that there was in the previous games. Like there's still one "pro" stage and then eight around that, and there's still a big entrance for the bosses at thee beggining of each level. Some enimies are old too. The graphics are nice and remixed, the music, sometimes annoying is colorful and adds a nice touch to the game. Boss battles can get VERY annoying but if you have the right weapon, [their weakness] it can be easy. Also, you get to play as Vile, Megaman's arch nemisis, although I haven't gotten up to that part yet. There's a horrible demo of Megaman Powered Up which by the way is an awful game. Some of the levels are really cool though, like you get to jump into a huge punching machine and walk around, destroying everything in your path, and you get to basically shoot everything that moves, dodging, and even wall jumping. Riding on a flying platform, battling mini bosses, Megaman has alot to do in this game. It's even worth the 30 dollar price. So check this game out. It's a blast to play.

Mega Man X Maverick Hunter X is a remake of the first Mega Man X which originally apeared on the Super Nintendo system. The gameplay is identical to the original, the graphics are amazing, and it has great voice work as well. When you beat the game you get to watch a cool 24 minute anime. Buy this game!

This Megaman X game is one of the best. Besides being a remake of one of the best SNES games ever made, this game is fun for a long time with great replay value. I love the new 3D graphics and how well the slight changes were made to certain levels. I've had this game for a while now and it's still one of my favorite games for my PSP. Overall I think this is a great remake, they didn't screw with too much stuff they just left most as is and the stuff they did change adds too the fun in this game. I think Capcom did a hell of a job remakeing the original Megaman X. I hope Capcom decides to make a remake of X2 and 3 because those were the only ones released on SNES. The ones on the PS had good enough graphics, they don't need to be remade. I'll just be waiting for a remake of X2 to come out, hopefully it does.
One Of The Best Games 4 Da PSP Right Now!!!!

I Have to say Mega Man Mverick Hunter X is a very good game, in fact I'm still playin right this minute. If some of u people don't know dis is actually a remake of da original Megaman X fo da SNES. But now dey totally revamped the game in almost every way. 4 one thing the new 3d graphics looks absolutley amzing and fits well even though this game is a side scroller. They have also changed the music but people would barely notice unless they have played the original. Another exclusive is that they have added voice acting in the game, sum of the characters voice actors don't fit very well but otherwise its a nice addition.
There are also unlockables to obtain like being able to play as Vile (X's arch rival), a 20 sumthin minute anime movie explaining the origins of all the events before X started all his missions, and also they added a funny thing and that is that X can use Ryus (from Street Fighter) special move the Hadoken attack. But everything besides that is still here from the original game. The game still has the same bosses, same special attacks, same annoying hard difficulty and same old Megaman. So do me all a favor and get dis game especially if u have nothing els to play on your PSP......

Love the game, it's the one that started it all in the X series. Only thing I didn't like was that it's just X1 and since I mastered the original, it feels short. But other then that. Love it!

This game brings back so many good memories of my days with my SNES. I first fell in love with Megaman when my cousins and I played it on the original NES. It's good to see Megaman refreshed for the new decade. This game is not just a recycled version of the original Megaman. There are so many new things to unlock and challenged to overcome that it feels like a new game. The graphics and bitmaping are also gorgeous and make this game a pleasure to look at while you're blasting away at Mavericks. I highly recommend this game to anyone who is a fan of Megaman. Best 20 dollars I've ever spent on a game.
Awesome remake!
