A decent attempt at making Burnout portable

Burnout Legends is almost what I expected from the long running Burnout series. It offers fun arcade racing action. It packs a solid 20 hours to complete the game 100%. The graphics are some of the best I've seen on the PSP. But, it just does not have that Burnout feel from the console versions. The crash and takedown modes are fun, but the racing levels seem to suffer as you get further into the game. As you get further into the game the cars you unlock get faster and the framerate on the PSP starts to have noticable drops. And the cars do not seem to handle as well as the console version. Which again could be the difference between the accurancy/sensitivity of the analog stick vs the ones from the Xbox and PS2. I also found it hit or miss in the crash mode. It is still fun to create the most horrendous accident possible, but dont expect the visuals from the console version. Another complaint is during the crashbreaker mode the car is not as maneuverable as it is in the console version. Overall I think it is great for those who want arcade racing and crashing action on their PSP. But if you already have it for the console dont was the money for a lesser version on the PSP.

Very addictive...

Very addictive game. Lots of fun, so far this is my favorite game. The music goes quite well with the different competitions. Great deal for $20.

A race game for the steeringly challenged...

I love race games, but I am not a very good high speed driver. I spend as much time off the pavement as on, and then I lose, and can't advance at all, and losing all the time just takes the fun out of it. I can try for better lap times, but that is the epitome of boredom with no other cars on the track and my inability to improve much at all, or following up my personal best time with my personal worst time... It is just agonizing.

Then came Burnout.

This game is great for folks who love the thrill of high speed driving, and the total rush of explosive crashes. If you never complete a lap without an accident, you still get style points for great wrecks. Since I can't seem to avoid accidents, I just try to make better accidents, with more vehicles involved, ETC...

There are many different modes, including Crash mode which is just a short track with a busy intersection and a ramp for you to elevate your crash... Overall, great, mind blowing fun... a bit twisted I guess, but a good tutorial on how unsafe nitrous boosted compact cars can be.

Well, it's sick. But fun. Really fun. And you can play it for hours non-stop... with the only risk being the safety of your numbed thumbs and blood shot eyes!!!

So live out your car crunching fantasies with reckless abandon. Just keep the real roads safe, k?

Great for Burnout on the Go

I picked up this game after becoming pretty familiar with Burnout: Revenge on the PS2. This basically means I became pretty familiar with slamming into same-way traffic on instinct to earn boost, rack up traffic attack points, and take out unsuspecting rivals with flaming vehicular projectiles. Well, needless to say, you can't do that on Legends, as it's more of in the vein of the other entries in the Burnout series. It's a little more difficult to avoid cars anyway, because headlights/brakelights seem to pop up closer than on the console versions. However, the speed, sound, and sheer graphical beauty of this game is on par with the best looking PSP games out there (Tekken: DR being the high watermark).

Likewise, the controls are simple and intuitive in the classic arcade-racer way, and it's quite easy for vets and noobs alike to just pick it up and play. My only real complaint in the control department regards the aftertouch control in crash mode, which is much less responsive than the console Burnout games. This is frustrating when you're a couple thousand away from a gold, and all you need to do is hit that last trailer on the other side of the street, but for all your mighty struggling with the analog nub, the best you can do crawl to the dotted yellow line and expire in a sigh of exhaust fumes and flaming fuel tanks.

All in all, the PSP may not have an enormous library of "killer aps," but what it does have is a handful of fantastic titles which are changing perceptions of what to expect from portable gaming, and Burnout: Legends is an excellent example. Although it's basically a console port, it's far from watered down, and instead stands as one of the must-have games for anyone with a PSP.

Very good game, one of the PSP's best

Very nice graphics and tons of gameplay. The cars are fun to drive and the sense of speed that is present in the PS2, and Xbox versions are still there. It has great replay value and is super easy to pick up and play whenever you feel like getting a race in.

It's a fun game, but sluggish at times

Best Racing Game Ever

Burnout continues the series on PSP with what is so far the best PSP racer game out yet. In my opinion the Takeouts are the best part of the game, you can make other racers crash and it goes in to slow motion for the crash. The racing is also excelent, if you want a racing game, get this one.
