Awesome Space Game Ever Made

X3 Combo package Review:

"I ordered the COMBO package which is suppose to be X3 v1.0 and X3 v2.0 - because as this was going to be a

collectors item for me. I received 2 of the very same package and game. Instead of what the purchase was intended to

be like the description it said. So basically I bought the same game twice. Maybe someone in the ordering and

packaging was not paying attention or something, So I am Upset"

As far as the game itself, This is One of the best game I have ever played.
Very realistic views of space and the best strategy games I have played.

I own Beyond The Frontier, X2 "The Threat" and X3 "The Reunion",
and when the new game comes out in 1 to 2 months, I will own that one too.
Called X3 "Terran Conflict"....

I play this game all the time, along with EVE-Online.
If you want a great space simulation game, this is what to get.
Some people hate it, but those are the one's that are not fan's and a good quality space sim game.

If you have someone that loves Space games, get them this.
but do them a huge favor, get the entire collection.

1 - Beyond The Frontier
2 - X2 The Threat
3 - X3 The Reunion
4 - X3 Terran Conflict

They will love you for it.

Great game

Great game. I've been playing as a trader, and the dynamic economy is excellent. You aren't able to continually run between two or three places, as in some other games (Freelancer). I haven't played the story much, but from what I've read it sounds a lot like the story in Freelancer. If you were to play this as a solely a space combat game, however, it might get a little old. There are only so many ways you can dress up a "go here and kill this" mission.

Best space game out there period

Simply put this game is the best single player space sim out there.

Want to do a story mode? Want to just do an open ended career? Want to dl tons of mods, custom ships and scripts? X3 has it all. With a little research and work you can even add your own mods and custom ships.

The choice in gameplay is up to you. You can be a defender of the galaxy, a trader, a feared pirate. Your career is up to you.

Get this game if you like space sims, less arcadey than other games out there, it can be brutal. But if you love space, love sci fi, you can't do better than this product.

Might be worth a shot

If you're worried about the StarForce copy protection (and you should be) you should know you can now buy this game via Steam -- without the nefarious StarForce drivers being surreptiously installed on your machine.
As for the game itself, it feels like kind of a cross between a game like Freelancer (mission-based combat with lots of opportunity for trading-runs for profit) and a classic "build an empire"-type game.
The controls and UI do leave a bit to be desired (a common flaw in European games if you ask me) but they're workable.
If you like the space genre, and the idea of owning space factories that produce goods just for you, this game is probably worth a shot.

kind of like a Rubick's Cube

This may be a great game. I have no idea.

All I know is I just spent an entire day (and the following morning) attempting to learn its most basic elements of play.

I'm lost. Utterly lost. I have absolutely no idea what's going on, and worse, I have no idea what I should be doing differently in order to improve my gameplay.

I could check online forums & newsgroups... but.. should I have to?

I'm an experienced gamer... I've played tons of complicated games, but none so poorly documented as this one. And as far as in-game help goes -- forget about it. This game must have been playtested by people already completely familiar with the series.

The game seems to have a strong following of fans, so clearly there are those out there who like it. But I prefer a game which starts out playable, and introduces layers of complexity over time.

The graphics are very nice. Not nearly as good as EVE, but very good.

If you're an ardent space sim fan maybe its for you. I'll give it 3 stars because I can tell that there is probably a great game underneath the initial confusion. I just didn't want to spend a week finding it.

One of the most enjoyable games I've ever played.

I don't care for starforce either so what I did was: Install the game, run it, at the first screen hit check for updates, downloaded the 2.0.02 patch, ran the patch which on some older copies of the game require inserting disk one to complete the istallation of the patch, then I downloaded the starforce removal tool from the official X3 forum, ran the removal tool, and rebooted when needed to complete things.
I'm not a computer expert but I found a site that gives instructions on how to check for starforce files on your computer and as far as I can see they were all gone. After this patch, you don't even need a cd in the computer to play.
Since then I've been enjoying X3 alot without any problems worth mentioning. The game has an extreme amount of depth to it and you could play weeks if not months without even concentrating on the plot missions although it's worth doing a few of the first ones for the experience, reputation boost and a few goodies.

Don't waste your money.

This game is a definite step backwards from X2.Not only does it suffer from an interface that was simultaniously developed for pc and console(meaning the pc version was"dumbed down")but it installs the most insidious version of StarForce.I had to reformat my computer after installing this load of garbage.Don't ever mention this problem on the official forums or you will have the moderators accusing you of being a pirate.
The plot bites(what little I could play because of bugs and copy protection problems)combat is really boring and easy.Iwish I could give this misbegotten bundle of bad coding no stars.

I have never found a game that let me use my mind so much. The graphics are great, the gameplay is interesting and stays that way. The GOD engine keeps the game fresh. Now with the upgrade to version 2.0 the majority of the bugs are now fixed. Also the new Player Headquarters lets you repair and manufacture your own ships.

Good game, expansive and deep

This is probably the only game i have ever played where by the end you can actually end up 'owning' the universe. Working your way up from 1 ship and little money you can build a fleet of capital ships, space stations, haulers, freighters, formations of fighters and escort. The only thing it doesnt have is a 'death star' type ship, but i wouldnt at all be surprised to see one in future patches. You own these ships all at the same time too, and can hire (computer controlled) pilots to fly them for you while your off doing what you want to do. No leaving a ship to sit idle in the dock while you fly the other.

Most problems that arise in the game stem from an unstable system to begin with. This game is very high end, and will stress your system to the breaking point. If your system is already marginal this game will have freezes/bugs, but its pretty much the game is pointing out problems that were already there befor it was installed. I never had one problem running the game, and i have no where near what would be considered a 'high end' system. (AMD 3000+, 1g ram, nVidia GeForce 6200). Although i cant run it on the high graphic settings, i never had any problems wit freezing or erroring even befor installing the patches.

The only real big beef i have with the game is the star force copy right protection they put on it. I would never by another game that had star force on it no matter how good the game is. 99% of the games install problems are directly related to starforce. Thats why i gave it the 4 star over all instead of 5 star. If you need 1 reason not to buy the game i would say "starforce" - it is truly garbage. But that would be the only reason i could think of not to get this game.

Open Ended and Complex

Not nearly as difficult to play as many of the reviews I have read here and elsewhere. Controls are nested or hidden from view but can be easily found by either ENTER or ESC key.

Beginning with the Normal game worked fine for me but has been a little slow earning the credits you need to upgrade your ship. Combat is great fun but also is frustrating as your ship has light shields ( if your hull gets moderately damaged I would reload the game as it is $$$ to repair). Trading and taking people to other stations is my primary income right now.
If you have the attention span of a Space Fly and need constants action then this game is not for you. there is a great deal of exploring other systems and visiting various bases looking for work.
The graphics look spectacular on my system: AMD x2 4400, 1 gb Ram, 2- 7800gtx graphics cards in SLI. I got the latest game patch and have not had any bugs or issues so far (3 weeks now).

I think they did a great job with this game. I was a big Privateer fan and have played other games from that genre. X3: Reunion finally nailed it on the head.
