For those of you that haven't seen the movie (and there's many), let me lay to rest all of your speculations about this game. I know them because I had them as well.
The seventies sucked. Playing as members in a street gang during the seventies, surrounded by afros and leather vests sucks as well. But believe it or not...this game is good.
Flawed, yes...but damn good.
The fighting engine in this baby is incredible, as are the combo moves and the general elements of mayhem open to the player.
At any given point you can mug people, steal car radios, break into jewelry stores, etc. etc.
The story mode itself is a plethora of (pinatas) mini-games that are actually well-imagined and fun. After every mission you return to the "hangout", where you can choose to advance to the next level, free-roam, workout, or enter "rumble mode"---which is worth the price of the game itself.
You can create a gang from the many members of every gang featured, and pit them against a CPU gang or against your pals.
The game is extremely brutal, even more so than the GTA series, and it has moments of hilarity. Your fellow gang bangers are not outside of your wrath. While chilling in the hangout, pick up a chair, start a conversation with another gang member, and then halfway through his rant break the chair over his head. Unlike most games, you'll actually interrupt his conversation to hear him yell, "WHAT THE F@#$ MAN!" or "COOL OUT, MAN!"
This alone is worth my $50. Pound your gang members long enough, and they'll actually get tired of your crap and beat hell from you.
Best Rockstar game yet? Let's not forget GTA3 so quickly. And despite how groundbreaking and innovative this game is, at it's core it is still a fighting game, and can get hackneyed within eight hours of gameplay or so.
However, is "The Warriors" a large step forward from Rockstar titles like "Manhunt" and "Red Dead Revolver"?
Oh yeah.

Being a huge fan of the movie, I was excited to hear that there was a game coming out. Immediately, the game really did a good job of recreating the movie with great character models and voice overs.Getting into the game, a was unable to save, as the game auto saves, sometimes after only completing certain objectives. After replaying the same level a few times,I decided that mugging people, and tearing up businesses, so I could buy spray paint for tagging just did not appeal to me.The game seems to forget the cheesy fun of the movie in favor of excessive violence, and thuggary.

This game is what video games are supposed to be: Fun. It's not especially hard and doesn't require hours of practice to get good at. It has a nice story that goes back to the formation of the gang along with the build up to the big meeting where Cyrus gets whacked and the Warriors have to run for their boppin' lives. At more than one point you will laugh out loud at the flying bodies and killer dialogue (the original actors that played Swan and Ajax and a couple of others return for the game).
The only criticism I have of the game so far is that a couple of levels have bosses you need to defeat. I'm not a big fan of bosses (that's what ruined Dead Red Revolver for me) but so far the bosses haven't been that hard and with their dialogue and fighting style they have been entertaining.
There is some similarity to GTA with the environments and the controls. If you can move around in GTA you can move around here pretty easily.
Each chapter of the story takes around half an hour to play but there is a rumble mode where you can hop and beat the hell out of people for a few minutes if you care to.
A buddy and I played the co-op mode and had fun doing it. What was nice was he could jump in and play one of my chapters with me, either continuing my game or replaying a particular chapter. I didn't have to create a two-player game, he could just play with me for a while and when he left I could continue in single player mode. Maybe EA could learn from that.
Overall: good game, nice violence, great dialogue and re-playabilty. Recommended.
Yippy, a fun game!!

When I seen Rockstar was coming out w/ a new game, I was pumped to say the least. I loved every game they have created, well, except for Manhunt. But, this game is fun fun fun. I have played single player and two player Co-op. 2 players is by far the highlight of this game. You and a buddy can run around and beat the $##% out of anything that moves, or doesn't move for that matter. The environments are very distructable. You can also pick up objects and toss 'em around like fun little toys. So, if you feel like tossing a brick at a copper's face, be my guest. Throw a cash register if you're really feelin' crazy...
This game seems to be made from a small portion of GTA. Do you ever find yourself walking around in GTA just beating up people into a nice tendor pulp? Well, that is what this game is based on. Only, add a GREAT story line and a great fighting system. Love this game, tons of fun and decent in length. Looking at 15 or 16 hours of gameplay. But, who wouldn't want to throw glass bottles at your buddy's face over and over again.......
Best Rockstar game yet!

This Game is unbelivebly awsome! Its got tons of missions and the cinamatics are pretty good. It is a unbelivbly good looking game with great fighting combat. Though the only two complaints are When you do free ride mode or a free run the enviroments could be a little bigger and the camera rotations are very crappy! But yet I think waiting so long for this game was way worth it!
The Gang creator mode is a great addition and playing as all the characters in the movie is cool. Controling youre gang as the leader is a cool feature but graffiti mode is cool but a little hard. Overall a butifull and addictive game.
NOTE: There is lots of cussing and vionce is mild but youre injuries are pretty grossume so be warned.

I haven't seen THE WARRIORS, the movie, yet. But it's waiting in my shelf. Actually, I wanted to finish the game first. I did so just a few days ago.
For those who don't know the story of the movie: a HUUGE meeting with all the gang members of Manhattan goes chaotic when the guy who called for them (charismatic leader of the most respected gang) gets killed by a gun bullet, even though everyone was forbidden to go there weaponed. It seems that everybody loved the guy for some reason, expect for the killer maybe, the one who goes "THE WARRIORS! IT WAS THE WARRIORS!", infecting others with this idea. From then on, they're all trying to get revenge on one of the gangs called "the warriors" who have to find a way to get back to their territory, all the way throught areas stuffed with angry, bloody violant gang members who just want you dead. It's like 8 vs. 60'000.
The game starts way before that point when another guy called Rembrandt is joining the Warriors. Before you get to play the movie section you will learn what kind of conflicts are there between the warriors and some of the gangs, as well as how The Warriors were born. Those sections are called "Flashback missions".
Most important thing you gotta know is, that the movie section is extremly short. There are two huge missions in there though that never seem to end. So while I was looking for a desperate, hopeless-seeming kind of escape/hunt story, it was really tiny in comparison to the whole thing. THE WARRIORS always starts at their hangout, you can, well, hang out there, do some muscle training, and to outside, roam around Warriors-Territory. This feels like a little GTA, but really little. You can do some dealer-missions (helping them or whatever) and stuff, for example to get the ability to carry one more healing drug with you.
Best thing to me was the fact that there's really a lot of variety. It's kinda hard to describe but in comparison to MANHUNT, every mission here feels very different. Even every sub-mission. Ok, sure, there are repetitions, but some gameplay styles you get to play 3 times over the whole course. Some I loved, by the end I thought it's a pity it only happened so two times or whatever. By the end of the game, you can choose the missions and replay them, finish some more secondary missions like spraying the "W" logo wherever you can.
Except for "State of emergency" and "Red dead revolver" I've played every single Rockstar game so far. Manhunt was tough and hard to look at, but I felt more disturbed with THE WARRIORS. Probably because beating up people is done so realistically. When they're KO, they do not just fall to the ground, they crawl some feet during which you can keep kicking them (gaining points). They vomit, spit blood all over the place... watching 8 guys kicking into a guy (or woman!) has some kinda sickengly impressive feeling to it. Feels very realistic, all in all. You can command your people to hide, beat everyone up, destroy everything in sight (gaining points), hold back and wait or spread out. Reactions on your commands are effective, you never feel like they're not doing as told.
Graphics are great, just not THAT beautiful. A bit smaery/oily sometimes. But regarding the amount of people on screen, it never slows down. And hey, it's Rockstar, they like depravity and sick stuff, gritty places and the darker, violant side of humanity.
Amazing game that brings new life to the movie!!!

To begin, I should say that watching the movie before you play the game will make it much more fun. Unlike most games based off of movies, this game is a prequel to the movie. It takes place three months before the beginning of the movie and you learn how the Warriors began and see the characters from the movie evolve. It's an ingenius idea and the game is terrific.
The graphics are great, the sound is great, the plot of each mission is great. It has the feel from the movie, too. The music comes straight from the movie score and dark feel, the movie carried, continues in this game. Playing, you get an opportunity to look into the background of the Warriors and the other gangs introduced in the movie. It's outstanding.
In all honesty, I have so much good to say about this game, I'm having trouble keeping my thoughts in order. All I can say is play it, and if you haven't seen the movie, rent the movie then play the game. I'm telling you, you won't be dissapointed.

I was scared when I bought this. I'm a teacher and don't have a lot of money to throw around. I thought I should wait until the price went down. I am so happy I didn't. This game is a blast!!! Great story. FANTASTIC fight scenes. Challenges and extras. I played it... finished it after a week or so... and immediately started over. This games replay value is great. In the positive, this game has a lot going for it
-varied fight styles for each character
-easily mastered controls for all the moves
-ability to "rumble" outside of the story with any gang you like
-plus, those rumbles can be one on one or have up to nine guys per gang!!! That was awesome!! Although the Baseball Furies ate me for breakfast.
-Great visuals. I love how each gang is introduced with the freeze frame.
-Remarkably great and cheesy bonus game at the end. That was way fun.
-Bonus missions that tell how the gang was formed. Fun from a game perspective and very entertaining for grizzled old fans of the movie like myself.
-Best replay value of any game I've seen in two years.
-Lots of insides in the story for the fan of the movie.
Some downsides
-Gets a bit confusing when all the fighters are standing in one spot. I end up hitting my own guys alot.
-Lots of time spent trying to beat a gang's boss. I hate that but these bosses are few (maybe a half dozen) and relatively easy to pass (compared to other games)
-You "work out" to improve your fighting skills; chinups and such. I found this kind of tedious but necessary. Still it doesn't take much time if you remember to do it. If you forget you are in trouble in the later stages.
-May be too violent and criminal for some and was right on the edge for me. You make money by mugging people and you get your health from a pusher. Authentic, sure, but not something you want the church group playing.
-Language. This game definitely earns its M rating.
In the end, the perks FAR outweigh the negatives though. At last, a game that was worth the money. Thanks Rockstar. You did it again.

I have yet to see the movie so I don't know if the game is the same. But what I can tell you that this is a heck of a game and a must-buy for this holiday season.
The game starts of with a cutscene of the meeting with all the gangs. The gang leader of the Riffs, Cyrus, is giving a speech. He is talking of unity between all the gangs. Then, all of a suddenly, you see someone pull out a gun and shoot Cyrus dead.
The game then flashes back to 3 months prior to the meeting. You are playing as Rembrant, the newest member of the Warriors. You learn the controls and most of the major aspects of the game. You learn brutal combos, "Rage" moves, how to steal car stereos, pick locks of stores, mug people, throw items, uncuff fellow gang members, and tag other gangs territory. Now your on your way to becoming the baddest gang in New York City.
This may sound like a typical Rockstar game but believe me it is not. You have a main objective that you must complete and bonus objectives that help you unlock additional things. And its not like all you do is beat people up and move on. Your main objective may be to outrun a gang(Baseball Furies), cause a cetain amount of destruction(Hi-Hats' art gallery), tag a certain amount of territories(Boppers), or earn a certain amount of money. Oh, and if that doesn't sound good enough you can do everything in the game co-op. That's right, the entire campaign mode can be played co-op, but the only drawback is that it goes split-screen once you get too far from each other. But you can control your our screen so its not that bad.
Now that's just the campaign mode, you can also unlock missions to see how each gang member joined the Warriors. It will first start off as a cutscene but then you can play as that gang member as he goes through his initiation process.
This game also has its fair share of "minigames". You can do a wheelcahair race. King of the Hill and Survival mode. Duke it out with rival gangs and many other things.
Last but not least, you can leave the Warriors hangout and just screw around GTA-style. You can do all the things mentioned above, but get caught doing it around the cops and then the fun beings. If the cops catch you mugging, breaking and entering, vandalizing, or assaulting an officer then they chase you. Fighting cops while people are watching is another no-no. The witnesses will run to the nearest payphone and call more cops. Sounds fun right? It is.
Can you dig it SUCKAS!!!

Based om the cult movie of 1979 the Warriors video game events take place 3 months before the events of the movie. The gameplay is easy to pick up on first you take control of Rembrandt the youngest of the warriors (he's one of 9 warriros you can control) First you start off by learning the basic moves and then you move to tagging and stealing ANd mugging for which you earn money for useful items like spray paint amongst other things. Weapons as far as they go you start out with your fists but there are numerous other things like baseball bats and hammers I have seen them all yet. Most of the orginal cast from the movie have done the voice over work and its all very well done. I think Rockstar toronto did a fantastic job with this game normally I'd steer clear of gmaes based on movies but I was really surprised at how well they captured the mood of the film within the game. The following chracters in the game are not voiced by the actors who played them in the movie Snow Cowboy Rembrandt Vermin Cyrus and Luther. Overall I'd rate this 9/10. CAN YOU DIG IT!!
