Excellent bloody zombie fun

Okay, the fact that this game was made by the makers of Halo should be enough alone to consider that this game has something to offer. The game play is simple and if you have ever played the above mentioned game then you will be able to play this game just as easily since the controls are pretty much the same. The humor is amazingly simple but it all works pretty well. The one level I didn't like really was a dancing level that is a memory game and it's just a little annoying but the makers must have seen this because you are allowed to skip it if you fail to get any of the different parts of a given level. And also, the difficulty settings are the same as Halo with an easy, normal, hard, and "mpossible" ranges.

Another factor that makes this game stand out is of course the music. All of which are covers of 1950's and 60's classics, which are probably easy to make sound cheesey but all of the bands do a excellent job of either making the song they do their own or staying true to the original.

Overall this is a remarkablely good game dispite the awkward subject matter but I think that just adds to the funness of the game. The game is a bit short though, a friend and I beat it in one sitting in about 4 and a half hours on normal.

Lastly, be on the look out for the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas nod. It's easy to spot and just kind of adds to the laughs.

This is the funniest zombie game I've ever played. You get to eat brains. You get to knock people's heads off with their own arms. It's like t-ball but with bodies and blood and legs and torsos flying all over the place.

The graphics leave much to be desired...this is NOT Dead or Alive quality. Having said that...the music, the cut scenes and the game play are awesome. I found brain-eating to be very addicitve. It is powered by the Halo engine, but is otherwise not similar in any way. Every Zombie cliche is embraced to the max, and I couldn't stop playing.

Doing the Zombie Shuffle...

Stubbs is a decent game but definitely has a few problems. Basically, you control Stubbs, who of course as the name suggests, is a zombie. The graphics are good although there are some slight pixel problems here and there. Controls are easy to learn and the game uses the halo engine, which essentially eliminates the typical camera problems. The music can become a bit repetitive but I tend to tune it out anyway. Voice acting, is also decent although hearing "brains, brains" over and over does get a bit tiresome. Basically a platform game, you do get expansive areas to search but there is nothing to find. The slow pace, even when Stubbs is supposedly running is also quite irritating. I mean, I understand he is supposed to be a shuffling zombie but it takes forever to get anywhere and really slows the game down. I don't expect him to have a jet pack but come on. When you are able to use a vehicle it's a huge relief (unless it's a tractor which is even slower than Stubbs) because you can finally MOVE.

The game reminds me of 'Destroy all Humans' for a number of reasons: the futuristic yet retro setting and general look of the game, playing the bad guy and purposely killing any human that crosses your path and one other reason: it gets really old fast. While the game isn't bad, it is monotonous. It fails to ever get you really involved and it is basically the same thing over and over. There is a puzzle element in the game, in that you need to know when to pull your own head off and use it as a bowling ball to get through tough areas, or rip your hand off so it can skitter across the room and open a door or possess someone, etc. Unfortunately, you have limited use of these items so it's back to shuffling along, swiping at the bad guys while they use guns to blow holes in your already mangled body. Again, not a bad game especially if you need some mindless entertainment for about an hour or two. After that, the monotony will probably turn you into a zombie. Pick it up as a rental first as it has a hefty price tag unless you find it on clearance.

Ever feel like eating the brains of the person next to you? Yea, me too.

Stubbs the Zombie was one of those games at E3 that got a lot of attention, and with good reason. As far as I know, there hasn't ever been a zombie game where you're the zombie, and the zombie is the hero. To add on to that, there's the fact that the AI is really believable (cops run back and forth and say stuff like "stop or I'll shoot," the rednecks say "Yee haw!" and hit you with their rifles if you get too close) and that the graphics and controls are fantastic. Additionally, you get to raise an army of undead who help you to kill off more townspeople, who then become more zombies, who then..... well, you get the idea. And, let's not forget the humor, which takes a solid jab at 1950's America, futurism, police, robots, rednecks, and....*ahem*..... urinating zombies. Trust me, that last one IS funny (one of my favorite levels in the game.

That said, there is a slight problem. The game is far too short, and the replayability comparatively low, for this to get an overall review of 5 Stars. It took me about four hours of total time to defeat it on the normal setting, and I'm not even that good of a player. Experts beware- though you'll probably be laughing all through the game, it'll be over before you know it.

So, I still recommend this game..... just try to get it cheap.

And game developers, if you're reading this (unlikely, but might as well try) please, please, please, PLEASE make a sequel!!!!!

How many times can you tell your gaming buddies this, "I've played a game that has zombies, a love story, feels like Halo, and has a fart button,"?
Well, in Stubbs, you can. In this surprisingly fun and Halo-ish game contains many funny set-ups that even E games don't have. For example, you can through your organs as gernades, posses your enimies, and fart at any time you want(I'm not sure why a developer would want that in thier game, but it's funny), the eniemies have been programed much like the Covanent from the Halo series, and the controls are much like Halo. So if any of you Halo freaks are waiting for Bungies upcoming game, blow time away with this.
The city is called Punchbowl, set in the 50's with unsuspecting pretty-boy citizens waiting to be aten by you and your hord of zombie friends, besides, whats funner than chewing on the brains of some happy-go-lucky loser who thinks the jiterbug is cool? You can wreak havoc today by buying this soon classic game today!

Stubbs is Too Easy---It Ain't No Halo

Like many of you out there, I was sucked in by the major marketing hype that preceded the release of Stubbs the Zombie: Rebel Without A Pulse. I liked what I saw in the previews, liked the old music covers, liked the whole concept. I thought it was going to be a kick, and I bought it. In other words, the marketing strategy worked, and I bought without thinking.

First thing I always do with a new game is select the maximum difficulty level. Doing this with Halo, I had my butt handed to me on a platter...repeatedly. Doing this with Stubbs, I plowed through half the game without breaking a sweat---and I realized that Stubbs at its worst was still too easy.

We shouldn't even try to compare the two games, is all I'm saying. With Halo, I actually dreaded some levels, I could feel the hair standing up on my neck sometimes. But with Stubbs, it's an emotional disconnect---there's nothing there to challenge you, really, and your adversaries fall like dominoes, so there's no real sense of dread or even anticipation. All told, Stubbs is a very colorful interactive cartoon, but that's about it....it ain't no Halo. Stubbs might make a better movie than a game, and that's probably the best thing I can say about it.
