This game is great. I took the chance and preordered it before I knew too much about the game and I was not disapointed. The cell shading, which I normaly don't like in games, fits the game well, although the smoke looks kinda weird. The only minor problems I saw with the game is the multiplayer mode, which only allows 2 players and only slight changes in game type, and the cut scenes are only airbrushed stills and leave some of the plot out.
Bottom line: great single player anime action game with a okay but not spectacular multiplayer mode. Arguably better than HALO.
Finally the Robotech games the FANS wanted.

This is what a Robotech game should be. It's pretty well done and is 480P HDTV compatible. The voice work is top notch and the music and weapon sounds are as I remember them. The cel-shaded graphics enhance the anime feel to the game. You can use the 3 modes of combat but the controls are slightly different for each so make sure to run through the short Training mode to get used to them but they might take awhile to actually master.
Though not alot of replay value it is very immersive and a treat for Robotech fans. There is room for minor improvement but I think this is the best fans will ever see in a Robotech Game.

Avoid this dog-pile... Look, lots of people like lots of different things. I HATE THIS GAME. I couldn't get rid of it fast enough. The graphics are crappy, the game play is utterly repetitive. Did these jokers spend any time designing this product? You will need to be a real die-hard fan type of person to enjoy this more than a few minutes. You cannot turn into the flying mode at will. That sucks. And the graphics look like a kid's coloring book. Get yourself a used copy of "Mechassault" or even "Battle Engine Aquila" & you'll be better off.

The good:
-This multi-form robot sure knows how to fight, and this a piece of anime, too.
-Deserves the exploration
The bad:
-EGM(Electronic Gaming Monthly) was right about those "escort missions"
-Sometimes feels light
-The comments given after you fail a mission
The strange:
-Do some of these characters really deserve the right to hold these kind of jobs(Yes, you Jack)?
-Don't some of the enemies piss you off?
The awards for:
-Best form-Fighter mode
-Worst enemy-The blue fighterpods(multiply entirely too much and are so annoying, but fun to kill)
The overall:
If I picked between a Gundam game and this game, this game would win. Mainly, because not only the easy gameplay, but the graphics are stunning and this is just a piece of anime. If you like robots, this is your game. Just beware of some very killer missions.

This game could have, should have been so much more. The developers made this game where you are confined to one mode or another. If you change modes into anything other than the recommended mode the level is virtually impossible to complete. Save your money. After buying this game I will never ever pre-order a game again.
Good graphics, not much gameplay

Actually, I had a chance to play this game even further, and it is okay. The graphics are excellent, but the execution of the camera angles doesnt do enough to show off the detail. This game could have been a lot better with a little more tweaking on the gameplay, but it is still fun if you are willing to get past the first few stages, which are extremely boreing.
If you are a robotech fan get this game!

This rating is for Robotech fans. Others might not like it as much. This game is addictive and very fun. Rented it first then HAD to buy it. Graphics are good and gameplay is both challenging and rewarding (you are going to love blasting stuff with your missiles and strafing with your chain gun). There is a learning curve so at first you will be frustrated (I mean there is three modes to learn for god sakes).
I would have changed a couple of things. Limited missiles would have enhanced the versus mode. Other than that, however, this is a good game.

I didn't know what to think, looking at all the ads and just completing my collection of the television series and then I purchased the game. It is worth every penny. I don't think people would enjoy the game properly unless they were a big Robotech fan. The only grip I would have is that they didn't use the characters in the story line, but they ran along side the show with what happens on the earth during the Zentradi conflict. As much detail that the programmers put into the game, you can tell that they paid paticular attention to detail to where as a customer, you win.
If you don't know about Robotech, I recommend getting the first volume of the series, but beware, you will be hooked.
