Outlaw Volleyball is definately one of the best hits on xbox. Perfect beach, perfect sun shine and perfect women... What else can I say? Ok, lets forget the women part for a moment: The gameplay is truly amazin; Your controls over the game couldn't have been better. Lastly, its xbox lived. With so much going on here, Outlaw Volleyball is a must have game. Trust me, you won't regret this.

read the subject. I bought this game because I wanted a simple, cheap sports game to play with friends. What did I get? an addiction, thats what I got. For real people, this game is AWESOME with a capital... whole word. Anyways. The language in this game is funny, the announcer has given me some new catchphrases to tell people that I don't like. The made up music is some of the best video game music ever. They need to come out with a soundtrack. The graphics are great. And what all of you lonely losers not unlike myself are asking, yes the body texturing is perfect. even the physics ;) are great. Buy it, but don't let mom or girlfriend watch it or play it.

I had higher expectations after playing outlaw golf. This game focused less on the volleyball and more on the extraneous crap that unstabilized the game. It's locked up my Xbox too many times in the middle of gameplay. The volleyball is weak here. The best volleyball game I've played is Beach Spikers on GameCube. Sad but true.

Beach Spikers for Gamecube is the best of the recent volleyball games, mostly because of its simplicity, actual beach mini-games, and cute Barbie Doll-like players. It is a sports game with rules that everybody must follow, not a game designed for cheaters like Outlaw Volleyball. But that's what makes this game fun.
One of the best offline features is fighting your opponents if you start to lose. You can really put the hurt on the AI "adjustment" with a few fight tokens. You can also unlock everything in exhibition mode with the correct pad cheat. And of course, there's all that M-rated language and racy antics of Outlaw Golf's original characters. But everything changes when you go online, especially if it is an "M" game.
The first online rule is that EVERYONE is invited no matter how bad they suck in this game, and must conduct themselves according to the fine print when they first signed up with XBOX LIVE. It's not censorship, it's "editing" for appropriate language and content. The box reads CONTENT DL on the back and can download Trixie to your menu, but why can't she be nude? The basic rule is that Hypnotix and Xbox Live are not porn sites, and they don't download naked Sims skins. If you want all that, then play PC games online. Otherwise, you are kicked out for abusing the system. And as far as other players cheating just like Killer "I rule all the courts!" Miller, those codes are for the kiddies not to be crushed by Half-Lifers who dominate online games. So if you like multi-player but still want to lay the smack and cut into the cheese, then invite someone head-to-head in your own home and take full advantage of EVERYTHING that's in the game.
The way to rule OV is to be cool like Doe Joe. But the big payoff is at the end of the tour when Nikki, the loser rock star who sells his soul to the Devil to be the greatest volleyball player in the world, performs "Phone Number Of The Beast", a hilarious version of Iron Maiden's classic hit. You get to watch the Hypnotix crew get squashed, eaten, and roasted by Satan himself. Makes up for a lot of frustration, and pretty much sums up what happens when you play online.

This game was so poorly rushed out they didn't even include the game fighting online, they also left out the various modes of game play for online too: like hot potato, team timer mode, time bombs. They did however leave the momentum aspect in the game, which makes your opponent drill you into the ground, with no possibility of recovering, because you cannot challenge them to a fight to gain it back like you can in offline play. Offline and online are 2 different animals. The also recently developed a code which enables people who really stink at this game to cheat online and become phenomenal players, the code enables them to catch almost every ball you throw at them.
Besides all this, the developers refuse to make promised downloadable content for the game, plus fix the already existing glitches on the game, the live score boards are hosed, you can't even read them because the Microsoft servers garbage'ed up the characters, if you do get online though, you will have a long game waiting to get into a match, because people quit playing it. The hypnotix website used to host tournaments, and promise prizes, and never did that either.
To add the cherry to the cake, their web site host, and game developer supports censorship (even though they developed an adult oriented game) If you even attempted to go to their website and speak your mind, or not be apart of their cliché, he will ban you from the site, yet he says he wants people opinions, more like he wants to hide peoples real opinions, if you want the real opinions about hypnotix and their products, browse the interent, because if you go to their website, all you will find is lies posted under fake names the developer has made for himself

Graphics-5 stars
Fun-4 stars
Replayability- 4stars
learning curve about 2 hours. (You constantly learn new techniques throughout the game)
I personally think this was a great game. It is challenging from the beginning and continually becomes more challenging. I judge a game by how many times I curse at it. I cursed a lot trying to master the moves and you must account for the fact that your team mate is not as good as the AI for the other team. Your team mate will constantly make you mad until you realize you dont have to set her you can hit all the time on the second shot. The game flows well and I havent tried to use any cheats because that would ruin all of the fun. The mini games are a nice touch to get your skills up and trying to get new characters keeps you wanting to play on. I think this is a great game and I may be partial because I loved Outlaw Golf as well. I think it is a great game that focuses alot more on volleyball than DOA did. In fact after learning the basics of DOA you could just look at the actual gameplay as a needless show to get more items. In conclusion this is a great game and despite the fact that Live doesnt really work all that well the game stands alone great. By the way my game never froze up on me and I have no idea what the other reviewer is talking about.
Thank you Summer

Two words that sum up this game- HELL YEAH! This is a great sports game to play by yourself or with others. Controls took about an hour or so to really master but the game play is extermely smooth. And then there is Summer. Quite possibly the best looking computer animation on the face of gaming planet. The drills to boost stats get really frustrating butimprove you skills dramaticaly. BUY THIS GAME!! If you don't like i'll buy it from you.
Finally a volleyball game that comes through

I have to say that this is the best volleyball game title I've played to date. While it has good eye candy the game play is what sets it apart. Plus, with the online capabilities it has great replay value. Not to mention there is a ton of stuff to keep a single player involved. If you like volleyball this is the game to pick.
A gameto own!!

This is an extremely fun game to own. If you're a volleyball fan or just want a game to have around so you and your friends can play, this is the one. Probably shouldn't be played by your kids because some of the gestures but a mature adult will love what is shown. One of the girls said in the game "you can blink now" and i know i was caught. I was torn between "Dead or Alive, Extreme Beach Volleyball" but i decided to go with this one because it has more volleyball orientation rather then eye candy. There's enough eye candy in this one to satisfy a persons needs, plus the game play is awesome and you contantly learn new technique's. It's well worth it.
Surprisingly good.

The main reason I purchased Outlaw Volleyball was because it's now out of print and getting harder to find. Though I had read a lot of good things about it, I figured it'd be nice to have a sports game in my Xbox library for once. Upon playing just one match of Outlaw Volleyball, I was hooked. It has an amazing amount of depth for "just a volleyball game".
You can pick from a few different play modes- tour, exhibition, random, and online. Tour is the main game- going through different locations with your own 2-person team and winning tournaments. Don't think that this is easy though, because the AI is very accurate. There were times when I go "oh there's no way they're going to make that shot", and they somehow pull off a shot and beat me 12-3. But that's what the Drill mode is for. This is where you practice aiming, serving, blocking, everything, and earn points to raise the stats of your characters (offense, defense, power and speed). The drills are usually a little challenging. There's one where you have to bunt the ball and hit targets of "bad guys" (thugs or muggers) while not hitting innocent ones (moms holding their babies, nuns, a boy scout). And so help you god if you hit one of the bad guy targets and the ball bounces off it and hits an innocent one. That irked me so bad...oh well. That's what the "retry" feature's for. You'll get the hang of it though. And I highly reccomend you view the first tutorial for the game before any actual gameplay. It'll make things much easier. I got my ass handed to me for 3 games when I first started, then I saw the tutorial and started winning. A big tip I can give you though is that teamwork is essential. If you just hit the ball over the net and expect to win, it ain't gonna happen. This is especially apparent during matches with "Hot Potato" rules. These games have a bomb set in the ball, and it explodes once the meter in the upper left hand corner goes up. You'd think that it'd be easy to ignore, and you can time it just right to pass over to the other side so it explodes on them (earning you a point), but it's not. The timer often slows down or speeds up when it feels like it. So passing the ball over to your partner could give you more time with the ball and raise your chance of bunting it over just in time so it explodes on them.
Graphically, OV is pretty good. It doesn't look like it could only run on the Xbox, but it has smooth character models that would look jaggy on the ps2. But they're all based on the same model. ie- all the girls will do the same moves during player reactions. They play differently though, it's just the animations. The only time I noticed any slowdown was during character intros and when you win a match- when tons of action is going on in the background. There is a funny little graphic "mistake" though- when playing as Shawnee (a native American girl), there's a slight problem with her loincloth. If you run forward or back, it kinda goes through her, reavealing her lower rear. So if you keep running back and forth, it looks like she's gone bottomless. ...as I realize that a few people will buy this for that reason alone. All of the characters have nice designs though. Plus you can give them different outfits as you complete the drills.
As for the sound...I hope you have a few custom soundtracks saved on your Xbox, because you'll be using them, a lot. OV has some of the worst music I've ever heard in my life. Not game music, music in general. It's terrible. Most of it is ponk (my own word I use for "pop/punk"), only heavily rejected. Some of the bands sound like wanan-be New Found Glory, which is already shameful if you sound like them. Even worse if said band sounds better than you. And there's even some ass-rap. There's one line in a rap that goes "Gangstas bangin' in tha streets". And I like rap and all, but that's just silly. Fortunately the character voices are good. I always laugh when Doe Joe goes "MOICHIRO!" when hitting the ball. Plus his Elvis impression isn't so bad. The only voice that they screwed up on was Chica- a latina with "an attitude" (c'mon, you saw that one coming 5 miles away). She sounds like a rejected Jenny Jones guest. Yes, Jenny Jones- it's that bad. The announcer is Steve Carell from The Daily Show, and like a few other review sites said- he would've been funnier had he provided his own lines and not what he was reading. Some of the things he says are pretty funny though. And if he starts to annoy you, just turn the "Announcer" down on the audio options menu. It's that simple.
If you're getting this game for your kid or something and are worried about the Mature rating for some reason, well, there's more than you should expect. The game isn't -that- hickish when you read the back of the box. In fact, there's only 2 hicks in the whole game and they're kinda tame. I thought I'd mention that. As for actual content, there isn't that much dirty language, but there are pleanty of suggestive themes. Women constantly bounce around, even if they're just talking. Asses shake like a Bill Cosby Jell-o Jiggler commercial. And you can clearly see the renderings of nipples through bikinis here and there. One of the female players- Summer, is also a stripper (though she does no actual stripping in the game) and tends to give the referee lap dances in between plays. The sexual content never gets too out of control. But then there's what I wasn't expecting- a few bits of animal abuse. I'll admit- I'm a sucker for animals and get upset when I see them mistreated, but it's used for the sake of comedy here. One of the players bites the head off a bat ala Ozzy, then chokes on it. And one of the girls seems to love kicking a baby seal if she loses a point (how the seal follows her into a sewer stage is beyond me). Those were completely unexpected but nothing too bad. And no, there isn't mass blood during the bat part.
I'm glad I got Outlaw Volleyball. It's a solid sport game, and you don't have to be into the sport to enjoy it. Heck, I've never played a volleyball game in my life and I'm loving every minute of this. It's fun, challenging, and has a good amount of replay. Unlocking all the characters, beating each tour match, and getting maximum stats should last you a while, and when you're done- there's always online play to take care of. Get this while you can.
