I've enjoyed playing B.O.S. 1st off there is no way you can compare this to the original fallout series as they are totally different games.
however if you enjoyed playing baldurs gate DA or D&D heros then this just might be the next game for you to try out. it plays exactly like DA but with flame throwers and home made machine guns.
on its own, not tied to the franchise name this game is 5 stars easy.
VERY ADDICTIVE

Although Brotherhood of Steel is not exactly like the PC versions of Fallout it is still a very entertaining game. I am about halfway through and have been very pleased.

This game rocks! The people who say it isn't any good are just upset that it is not a true role playing game, like the earlier Fallout games. This game is a hack n slash game, but that is to its advantage. It has nonstop action, good graphics, and a really fun cooperative mode. My friend and I have been playing this game nonstop. We're going to tackle Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance II next.
Perfect game for old school gamers

I got lucky enough to spend a night playing co-op with my buddy that got an advanced copy. Don't worry it's a legal copy. I'd definitely recommend this one to any of the old school shoot-em-up gamers out there.
Great Co-op game

Had some friends over, and everyone enjoyed this game. Great game to play with a friend, still fun by yourself.
Had one friend that refused to play it because it was different then the PC versions. He stayed home by himself. :) I bet he'd like it if he gave it a chance.

Not having the patience to go back and play fallout and fallout 2, BOS is perfect to get my fallout fix without spending weekends for progression in the game. Even though BOS doesn't have all the freedom like fallout 1 or 2, BOS still has the dark humor, post apocaliptic, no morals, and bad attitude feel that made me fall in love with the first 2 games. If BOS didn't have that Fallout feel, I would've tossed the game. If you don't have a job, or anything else to do during the day, I suggest you buy the first two games to completely understand BOS.
Great fun for hack n slash fans

If you like Baldurs Gate:DA you'll like this. Some PC fanboys don't like the game because it isn't the same "type" of game as the PC Fallouts, but who cares? It wasn't designed for PC.
The gameplay is fast n furious, and working cooperatively with your friend playing multiplayer is great. highly recommended if you like hack n' slash games.
its good but not the best

I played the first Fallout on the PC (there wasn't any other play to play it). It was a game with an alarming vision of the future and a dark sense of humor. Like other games built with that engine it played on an extended canvas with a complex plot that featured both linear and freeform components. It wasn't my favorite game at the time, but there was enough challenge and originality to it that one could thoroughly enjoy it.
This new version, while it takes place in the same universe as the original, is a different game - really tuned to a different purpose. The original was a classic action/adventure game, with considerable emphasis on the adventure. Brotherhood of Steel is also an action/adventure game, but with far more emphasis on action. The plot - what there is of it - is linear. You are one of the Brotherhood of Steel, trying to join your fellow defenders of the good. Somehow, this plot gets sidetracked, though, and you wind up in a classic dungeon drilldown to an ultimate boss.
The puzzles are a bit on the simple side, and few of the fights require exhorbitant amounts of thinking. Get strong enough, get armor and a weapon, then kill, kill, kill. Despite the game's rating of mature (mostly due to language) it is really less gruesome than many games rated lower.
Even so, the game is enjoyable. Brash characters with a lot of attitude make a difference from the standard fare, and the graphics and animation are good (if a bit repetitious). There is about 24 total hours of play time and three different characters to play. Since I've seen games lasting 6 hours that are less interesting and just as expensive I'm not sure I can even complain about the value.
So it's not quite like the old Fallout, a bit simpleminded, better than mediocre but not incredible. In this day of inflated release prices, I can't really say if it is overpriced or not. If you are not in a hurry then wait for the price to drop a bit. I had fun playing it and I'm sure most others will have the same experience.
