The best rally game for any console

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 7 / 9

This is by far the best rally game I have ever played. The car's controls and handling physics are near perfection. The car feels great as you race through the various rallies and power slide through turns like a professional. The crash simulation is also incredible. If you go wide on a turn and hit trees, parts of your car will fly off and the performance of the car is accurately diminished as the car takes more damage. Another great aspect of this game is the changes you can make to the car. You can change almost every part of the car that affects performance from the entire suspension, to the turbo, to the tires and you can really feel the difference in the car when the race begins. You can also vary the difficulty so newbies won't get frustrated and veterans still have a challenge. All in all, this is a very fun game but there are some flaws. One main problem is that you can only race as Colin McRae for the first three seasons of championship mode. This is a minor flaw and didn't bother me at all but some people may not like it. Another problem is that each season is the same in championship mode (you run the same rallies, in the same order.) However, this isn't that big of a problem because there are six different rallies and each rally has seven stages so there is plenty of track variance. In the end, this is a great game if you enjoy the World Rally Championship racing series or like those dirt tracks in Gran Turismo 3 for the PS2.

Amazing Realism

I picked up this game used for fairly cheap, and when I finally played it I was amazed. This is by far the most realistic driving game I have played, and I have played nearly all of them for all consoles. The first time I saw the back window break into pieces my jaw dropped. A lot of work went into this game, physics and damage especailly. The graphics are amazing, despite what one of the other reviewers said. I have played Rallisport Challenge and didn't like it nearly as much. I started playing racing games with "Pole Position," videogames have come a long, long way since then.

FINALLY ARRIVED!

I pre-ordered this from some guy on EBay in January, he kept moving back the day he would ship it, after threatening him with legal actions, he sent it. 2 months of waiting...WELL WORTH IT! I am not a huge rally fan, but I always enjoyed rally events in Gran Turismo 1,2 and 3. I own a Ford Focus and wanted to get into this whole rally thing. I am pleasantly surprised at this game. The number of cars is moderately high, any rally fans will probably find their favorites in there.
Some argue that the graphics are not on par with RalliSport, but I beg to differ. I find the graphics to be top-notch. I love how realistically your car accumlates dirt throughout a race. The in-car vuew is my favorite, and when I race in the rain and watch the dropletes hit my windshield, it is truly a sight to behold.
The sound is decent, it won't blow you away but it gets the job done. The turbos sound a tad weak but the sound of your tires losing grip on the dirt is convincing enough.
The control is awesome, I love having to correct my steering while sliding around a hairpin, it feels perfect.
My only complaint is that you cannot save replays, I really want to relive a few races where I went around a corner perfectly and just barely missed a tree hanging on the outside. I miss that, but I am willing to sacrifice that capability for a solid game through and through.
In summation, this is perfect in everyway. If you like rally, or any racing you need to look at this.

Major kudos to the maker of this game!!!

First off, the people who gave this game negative reviews don't know what they are talking about!! This game is awesome!! This game has 3 elements that I love, cool outdoor scenery, neat offroad action, and most of all the physics are freakin' sweet! I like that the car shows damage, why can't other game developers do this? If I hadn't just rented this game, it would probably not leave my console for a long time.

Challenging Ride

The only other game you could compare this with is Microsoft's RalliSport Challenge. RalliSport Challenge graphics are brighter and the feel of the joystick is better, but you do not get penalized for flooring it throughtout the race. Finesse is rewarded in Infogrames Colin McRae Rally 3 after playing both, Colin McRae Rally 3 is more realistic. The damage on the car does affect your performance, the dust and the rain does affect your vision, and the tracks are more competitive. If your lookng for realism choose Colin McRae Rally 3, if you just want fun with your young ones, choose Microsoft RalliSport Challenge.

I have only one complaint

This game is a great game but I have one complaint. The graphics on this game aren't very good at all. If you've played Rallisport Challenge then played this then you'll know what I'm talking about. The graphics on Rallisport are far superior to the graphics on this game. This game does not utilize the graphical capability of the X-Box like Rallisport. Sometimes I forget I'm playing this on the X-Box and think I'm playing it on a PS-1.

The trees in this game look really crummy. If you've played Tiger Woods 2003 on The X-Box then you know what I mean. They just don't look like trees but look like some one dimensional green flaps with holes in them. Also, when you're driving, instead of having a fixed view of the scenery ahead of you it is constantly appearing out of nowhere which is something that is typical of early games. Sometimes it's hard to enjoy this game when you know the graphics could have been better.

Before I get to the game itself let me first say that I am a die-hard racing fan through and through. I watch CART, F1, NASCAR and of course WRC. If you are like me then you need your occasional racing fix during the offseason to curb those racing withdrawls.

This has got to be one of the best racing games I have ever played. The circuits are very very challenging and require precise car setup. That is what sets this game apart from Rallisport. Rallisport was pretty much an arcade type game but this one definately is a racing sim. You get to do so much like setting up your car, do a shakedown AND you get to chose from a cockpit view which really makes it more realistic. I have a newfound respect for these drivers.

Another part of the game that is worth mentioning is the replay. You get to watch a replay of your run after every heat and I have to tell you that it is a blast and sometimes very amusing to watch. Seeing the back end of your car come out with dust flying in the air as you take a corner is very thrilling. If you are a fan of WRC and are looking for a realistic, fun and challenging racing sim then look no further. Sure the graphics could be better but the game more than makes up for it in it's gameplay.

worth trying but...

One of the best in rallies, but the multiplayer part leaves a lot to wish for. there is no championship for multiplayer, it does not keep the scores and you start with a brand new car ( no damage) in every next race. No fun. Beside that in a single player handling feels pretty real but still not perfect. Great speed, sharp curves, no problem.

Fun, realistic, close to great

Realistic handling and car performance, good tracks, nice graphics, great interfaces and fast loading. Downside is you always race alone - which is realistic - but not as exciting as group races. If a good rally race game is what you are after, this won't disappoint.
