I've played all the handheld tennis games on both major systems (psp and ds)and I rate this one the highest. Pretty standard conept: create a player, level up, play some side games, reach number 1. This particular game stands out for several reasons. (1) Graphics far exceed any of the competition (check out the light and shadows of the tokyo at night optional tournament, for example.) (2) Shot system is unconventional and takes some getting used to but once you have it down makes a lot of sense. (3) character customization. Not only are you able to change clothing rackets and shoes but also hairstyle and facial hair. Nice touch. (4) ball control is the best of any handheld tennis game: drops, lobs, long, short, spin all standard. But unique among similar games is the ability to change the direction and depth of your shot at the last second. Word of warning: the pace is slower than the VTWT and WT3 series. In addition, if some shots are unreachable your player will not make the attempt. This can be frustrating. Keep in mind that this is more of a sim. But definitely worth the money and the replayability will keep you coming back.
Not as fun as I thought.

Pros -
+ Smash Court Tennis in your palm
+ nice menus
+ char creation and levelling up is fun and rewarding
Cons -
- Tennis feels silly. Chars move like they're 90year olds. Stumbling slowly
- Animations are off. Sometimes it clearly doesn't hit the racket but it still goes to other side
- same animation of fist pump after every point, making it very annoying
- can't get depth in shots or precision at all. not like VT3 at all
- VT3 is a far superior offering than SCT3 on PSP ( although SCT2 on PS2 was awesome )
- mini games are fun for 20mins.
overall, I'm at bit disappointed with SCT3. I was expecting a lot more.
gameplay - 6/10
sound - 5/10 -- ball hit doesn't convey force rendered. sound isn't rich. commentator at the start is annoying. ( ridge racer'esque )
graphics - 7/10 -- decent for PSP. not very impressive, but not shabby either
value - 6.5/10 -- if you love tennis, you'll be happy with it, else not
tilt - 7/10 -- simply because I love and support tennis games.
