Great value for $30

I'm glad they final released this for PSP. Overall a pretty decent compellation. Half the games are great...the other half probably could have been left out.

This is worth buying alone for just Mortal Kombat 1,2,3. Some other good ones are Spy Hunter, Defender, Paperboy, 720, Klax, Joust, Marble Madness, Rampage, Gauntlet, Rampart, Championship Sprint, & Arch Rivals.

These games just aren't much fun anymore...

I bought this on its release date earlier this week-and I've already sold it. Yes, it gives you a decent number of games on one disc. But I quickly discovered that's not much of a value if none of the games are very fun.

Many of the games have emulation issues-the most common being flaky control and a distorted aspect ratio (many of the games get stretched to fill more of the PSP's wide screen). But the real problem is just that these games haven't held up well. I got some enjoyment out of Rampage 15, 20 years ago, but it's incredibly repetitive by today's standards. You've seen everything there is to see within the first minute or two. The same is true of most of these games. Even Gauntlet seems boring 20 years later-I'd rather play the more recent update to the series-or better still something like Diablo and its clones.

The Mortal Kombat games at least LOOK pretty good, but lack any kind of extras you'd normally associate with a home game. They don't even include move lists. (And that's aside from the fact they didn't play as well as the Street Fighter games to begin with, and the passage of time has only made them feel staler.)

If you're a huge fan of these games already, and don't mind some emulation issues, you'll probably enjoy this disc. For most people though I'd recommend skipping this and picking up a modern game, or waiting for Capcom's Collection for the PSP.

Another disappointing installment of SPY HUNTER! GAUNTLET better than GAUNTLET II, I think not!

MIDWAY should be ashamed! The creators of these games have been insulted!

They will never faithfully translate Spy Hunter, every couple of years they try, and they get worse and worse...

The music is still not 100% and what's worse, it is unplayable due to the fact that the steering control is at about 50% of what it takes to knock cars into the ditch in this game...

For people new to the game, it won't even come close to grasping them, and to fans of the game it is a complete insult, do they think we have forgotten after all of these years? Or I suppose they think we will be amazed by the pretty pictures and sounds, without even playing the game...

The only way to play Spy Hunter is to purchase an original 500lb. sit down arcade game machine, which I did several years ago, and barring it's aged appearance, it is the coolest thing I know in this world!

By the way, GAUNTLET's sound pitch is way off, everything sounds slower than it is supposed to, and come on, GAUNTLET II is so much better than the original, and should have been included here instead!

Finally a perfectly emulated portable Mortal Kombat!

Mortal Kombat, in any form, has failed to be made into a properly playable portable game. Mortal Kombat Advance was horribly choppy and sluggish. Mortal Kombat Tournament for the GBA just wasnt the classic fighter we all love. This has all changed...

The ports of Mortal Kombat 1 2 and 3 are PERFECT. I couldn't be happier! This is the first game I bought for my PSP, and in fact is a big reason I even bought the PSP. If your looking for MK 1 - 3 then this is the game for you. I cannot comment on the rest of the games because I don't care about them.

Combined with mortal combat 1-3, raiden 1, paperboy, and other classics, it's surely better than namco's version for the psp. We all know arcade games are almost out of style, but these will never go out of style.

The thing I'm wondering is, WHY IS IT RATED M?!? I understand 3 mortal combat games are on here, but if that's the only reson it's rated m, then that's just plain stupid! Parent's, if you don't allow your kids to play M games, this might be an M game you might allow. Believe me, once you watch your kids play the game, you will also wonder why it's rated that high. (I mean for preteen kids and older.)

In conclusion, GET THIS GAME AT ALL COSTS! $30 for about 20-25 games! That's about a little more than a $1 for each game, and you can play it over and over again (and keep your high score!) A must get game if you like arcade games and you're a psp fan!

Not a bad collection of games for the price, especially since I bought it on sale for $19.99.

The main reason I bought this game is for the Mortal Kombat collection. The game play is not bad but I did have trouble jumping backwards because the psp joystick is a little difficult to use in action games.

Spy Hunter was difficult to shift gears, remember which button fired which weapon and the steering has you all over the road.

Gauntlet seems to force you to always be the Warrior character (at least for me in one player mode). It does get boring after awhile since you basically get unlimited life. I got up to Level 50 and my thumbs were going to fall off.

Rampart was difficult to play (unless I just suck at it).

Cyberball was fun, easy to play.

Multiplayer mode is only ad-hoc (meaning the other players have to be in the same room)

The best thing about this is you dont have to put a ton of quarters to beat the games like you did back in the 80's & 90's.

I would of given it 4 stars if it also had Ultimate Mortal Kombat 4, Gauntlet II and multiple player mode over the internet.

Hello All

I really love this compilation, a lot of old favs are here.

The main reason I'm writing is to let people know how to change character in Gauntlet, I couldn't work out how the same as one of the reviewers above but found the solution on a site after much searching.

Basically load the game, before clicking play hit (square) instead for options you can choose the character your credits go to there.

I was gutted when I thought I was stuck playing Warrior, now I'm happy as Larry.

I own 15 or so games for my PSP, but I always find myself coming back to this one. If you're sitting in a doctor's waiting room or have only a little time to kill, you can play one of these games. Most of the time I am playing my PSP, I don't have 30 minutes to do a GTA mission and I don't have enough time to play an entire game of NBA or Madden, but I can always knock out a game or two of Paperboy or Mortal Kombat. I played alot of these games growing up and some of them are still my faves. Seems like alot of people don't like this game, but I think it's definitely worth buying.

This collection has -- to me anyways -- two things: Defender and Mortal Kombat. Because of the far too long load times, neither of them is really as fun as it used to be on arcades or home-consoles. All three Mortal Kombat games have nearly as long load times as the most recent "Unchained" portable iteration of the series. You can argue that Mortal Kombat I-III are more fun than the new 3D games, but I still think that this is an unneeded decrease in playability and I certainly felt down when I noticed it, after being *so* excited for MK on my PSP.
If you can look over this issue, well, you sure know what kind of goodness is awaiting you with this collection.
