I didn't really like this game when I started playing it. I thought it was going to be more fun than what it was but I was wrong. Game works though. I might turn around and sell it.

This game is the best game ever to be made. It has amazing graphics good music, use of guns, and ability to choose which side you're on in the middle of a level. You start as Shadow the Hedgehog who doesn't know who he is until you find the seven "Chaos Emeralds" and bring them to an extraterrestrial named Black Doom. Black Doom wants to annihilate the human race because he thinks that all they have in their hearts is greed. Shadow doesn't know anything about Black Doom's desires and believes him when he tells Shadow that he had promised to deliver the Chaos Emeralds to Black Doom, thinking that his past will be revealed. There are only two things that I have to complain about in this whole entire game. The use of da** it, and the choice of only three stages in 2P mode. The swearing is absolutely unnecessary, but that's how the world is. And besides, it's extremely fun. Those of you who don't like it, shame on you

OMG It's Shadow for Bob Saget's sake!!!<3

Okay, some people think that this game sucks. DON'T LISTEN TO THEM!! This is my absolute FAVORITE game ever!! What could be better than a game finally starring the incredibly hot Shadow the Hedgehog? It's so much fun, too. I love the gameplay, the story, the endings, the annoying partner characters, and you can choose not to help them and just help yourself. Personally I would have rated the game T for Teen because of Shadow's excessive use of a certain word and the firearms, but it's to be expected from him. I don't mind it at all. Overall this game is totally and wicked sweet and you should really get it if you are thinking of buying it. I am so glad I did. By the way, Shadow is absolutely mine and off limits other Shadow fangirls!

Overall, this is an amazing game--it's a game dedicated to Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic's archenemy (but lately, is also a friend, with some rivalry). Shadow has lost his memories and has flashbacks of his past. Then, Black Doom, the leader of the Black Aliens from the Black Comet, orders Shadow to bring him 7 Chaos Emeralds. Knowing that obtaining those Chaos Emeralds would bring him clues to his mysterious past, Shadow travels through hectic settings, defeating enemies, obtaining weapons, and hunting the Chaos Emeralds, with YOU guiding him.
Although I love this game, I have to give it 4 stars because it gets frustrating during several levels, and it really tries my patience; if it were not for help I've received from online, I would've never finished the game. There are many times when you've worked really far to get through a level, and, abruptly, there's a pitfall, and you die. Or you can run out of rings and die. To complete this game, you need A LOT of determination, otherwise, it's a complete waste of money.
I'm not even a serious video gamer! The only reason I played this game is because my little brother's into video games and Sonic the Hedgehog series and got this game. As fate would have it, I developed an interest in the Sonic series and developed a crush on Shadow and just had to play this game because my brother hardly plays it. I don't see myself as a patient person, but I saw this game as a way to test my determination and patience and see how far I'll go to reach my goals, so that's probably what kept me from giving up on this game.
Now, the good stuff about this game:

-The story is really interesting.

-Music is great, and the background music in each level really fits each setting.

-Amazing replay value

-In the select mode, you can play the levels you've already done and practice and get higher scores.

-The cutscenes play like a movie.

-In options mode, you can listen to music, change language, whatever!
-Sonic, Rouge, Knuckles, Amy, Charmy, Tails, Dr. Eggman (as if anyone likes him XP),Espio, E-123 Omega, and Vector all appear as a partner for Shadow in a certain level.

-You can side with evil, or hero, or go as neutral whenever you please!

So, in conclusion, amazing, amazing, AMAZING game. You just need determination to get through the whole thing.

This is not the worst game ever created it just isn't a good one. The game has very good graphics, but the sound is okay and nothing is great. The gameplay is trying to move away from normal sonic games by giving shadow guns, and making him say damn when he dies, This doesn't help the boring gameplay. I would not suggest this game, if your a sonic fan then buy sonic adventure 2 Battle that is much better then this.

Not for young kids

We bought this game for our son who loves the Sonic series. However, as others have said, the game includes frequent swearing so we no longer allow him to play it. The game also has a very "dark" feel to it, which I realize was part of the game creator's intent. IMO the game should be rated "T".

Shadow the Hedgehog is the strangest and most controversial game in the Sonic franchise. Pro reviewers who had grown up in the sunny 16-bit world of *Sonic the Hedgehog* regarded the game as an abomination. *Shadow the Hedgehog* takes place in a dark, amoral landscape laid waste by sinister extraterrestrials, and the equally bleak world of Shadow's gruesome past. Allies and enemies are often the same, and Shadow's amnesia and persecution from all sides makes the distinction between good and evil fuzzy at best.

The structure of the levels is similar to Sonic Heroes, except that the player usually has three possible objectives, and one's choice determines the future path the game will take. Some of the objectives are annoying, but most of the levels are well laid out and fun to play through multiple times. *Shadow the Hedgehog* finally replaces the Renderware engine of Heroes and previous 3D outings with a modern version, and I found the sense of speed, moving and exploding platforms, and cooperative camera a signficant improvement over previous 3D Sonic releases.

Shadow likes weapons, and he has a lot to choose from. There are lock-on rockets, Gatling guns, turrets, rifles, swords, and a huge variety of bizzare alien weapons, not to mention an Omochao gun and a "vacuum chicken!" All of them have different capabilities and effects, and I found the aiming system easy to master.

Shadow can be hard to control at first, because he skates rather than runs. He can also slide to knock down enemies without slowing down. With some practice, I found Shadow more fun and maneuverable than any character in a previous Sonic 3D game. The homing attack is also unforgiving at first, but can be aimed in midair and like sliding, is a technique that can be used fairly effectively once the controls are mastered.

The plot does a decent job of explaining Shadow's confusing past, although the limited number of cutscenes and bosses combined with the freedom to choose different paths often lead to awkward narration. For example, Eggman will attack the player in boss levels even if the player has allied with him previously, and will then eagerly solicit his help later in the game. The voice work is enthusisastic but very uneven, ranging from solid to extremely grating. The game does feature an impressive soundtrack and very high quality pre-rendered movies, and in-game graphics are generally more complex and impressive than earlier Sonic 3D titles. Unfortunately, the in-game rendered scenes often look like they were ported from the Dreamcast, and the models for the human characters are downright ugly.

I only recommend the Gamecube version. The PS2 version suffers from severe slowdown that seriously affects the controls and camera whenever there is a lot of motion on screen. I have heard similar complaints about the Xbox. It is a shame that Sega did not do a better job with the PS2 and Xbox relseases, because most of the complaints about poor controls and camera only affect those consoles.

Overall, this is a good if flawed game, and probably should have rated a 7/10 on the pro-review sites. I would only recommend it for teens and adults, though. The strong language is fairly mild, but I believe that the "dark" mission objectives and overall tone of the game are too morally ambiguous for young children.

Parents stay away from this one. This game should have a more mature rating. Sonic says "dammit" constantly. Shawdow the Hedgehog has the most gratuitous use of foul language I have ever seen in a video game! Big thumbs down to Sega and the ESRB.

Being able to choose between (I will destroy all humanity) evil, neutral, or good is a nice feature in many games, but this is not one of them. The game controls like most other 3d sonic games-sometimes characters get a little hard to control or the camera acts wonky. Most of the time we deal with this hindrances because we like sonic, but this game does not fit the sonic mold. Dark levels, guns, language and violence just is not a sonic game. If your looking for this type of game buy grand theft auto one of the various violent kill-em games out there but not this mutant cross of lovable sonic and evil aliens.
On top of that, the neutral and evil levels were MUCH easier than the good ones, the good quests usually making you find, search, or rescue hidden things around the level. AND the good powerup made you literally fly through the level so you had to go back to the whole level over again while the evil power up usefully destroyed everything around you. The ability to pick a path from an expanding tree chart was nice, but after a while you got bored of doing the same levels over and over while only changing the end boss you kill and a level or two just to get the final ending. Felt kind of like a choose our own ending goosebumps without the plot; except incited of just skipping the beginning part over to find a different ending you have to do the same (many times tedious) levels all over again. The plot is interesting enough (not really but just enough to fit the bill) but after doing the same level over literally 12 times (thats how many paths there are) It got irritating.
