SIMPLY BAD 4 OUT OF 10

When I was playing SNK VS. Capcom with a group of people we decided to play this game. We were appalled by it's bad gameplay. Unlike great fighters like Street Fighter, Soulcalibur, Dead or Alive, and Tekken, this game does a poor job of being a fighter. To start off the camera angle that this game uses is a terrible angle for fighters which made it confusing to jump on things to get to an opponent. There is also a lack of combat moves, so the game gets boring quickly. It has lacking graphics(I've seen better on the Gamecube than this), the control scheme is confusing, and the voice actors suck. If you want to play a fighter staring the Marvel heroes, go play X-Men VS. Street Fighter instead.

Great Game!!!

Marvel Nemesis was EA's turn to cash in on the Marvel superhero franchise. Spider-Man, Wolverine, Elektra, and many others go up against the Imperfects, a group of genetically-altered superhumans. There's also some kind of thinly scripted alien invasion story involved.

First, the good. Production values are spot on, with stylized artwork for the menus and good voice work. The Imperfects are an interesting bunch and each comes with a movie clip detailing their origin. Character models are nicely sculpted, although the camera is often too far away for you to notice.

Where Marvel Nemesis fails is that it's simply not much fun. This isn't Marvel vs. Capcom, it's a brawler/Powerstone hybrid. That in itself isn't a bad thing, but you have to work through an absolutely tedious story mode to unlock all the characters and extras. You'll waste time fighting wave after wave of generic alien enemies, only to reach ridiculously cheap bosses. The game's biased towards the Imperfects, who generally have wider-reaching and more damaging attacks. The AI isn't afraid to spam you with cheap shots when it gets the chance. Also littered across the stages are explosive background objects like oil drums and cars that can be picked up and thrown. They're useful but way too damaging, and can easily kill you when you're close to finishing a mission. Cue frustration.

Once story mode is finished, 2-player mode is supposed to be where the replay value lies. Only, there's not much to it. Not a lot of options to explore here. Levels aren't that interesting to play in, the simple controls don't hold much depth and strategy. Smash Bros. has strategy. This is closer to button-mashing.

Marvel Nemesis is a flawed game wrapped in very pretty packaging. Rent if you're absolutely curious, but there are better superhero titles to look into.

Lots of fun!

Excellent, beautiful graphics that have a genuine feel of the Marvel Comics. The cut screens are great, too.

As for the game--it's lots of fun--the environments could be more expansive and plentiful, but it's better than most.

Don't understand the negative reviews--it's a beautiful game and for Amazon's current low price it's a great buy.

Marvel-ous!

(...)I love this game! It's not perfect but it is a heck of a lot of fun. The grapics are really good. The characters are done pretty well (except storm...i hate her in this game). The bonus movies you can unlock are pretty cool . I do agree that some different characters would have been better but hopefully a sequel will come out and blow this one away. All in all...get this game.

Nice!!!!!

The game is a nice game. It is I believe EA's first attempt at taking marvel heroes and putting them into a fighting/action game as this one. You have to hand it to them. They actually did do a nice job. I admit there are some flaws but when have you played a new type of game that didn't have a few flaws? Here is what I think of the game with my pros and cons.

Pros

1. Great graphics
2. Lots of fun in the highly destructive levels
3. Nice sound
4. I myself thought the cinematic videos were very interesting. It makes me want to see more of the imperfects ( perhaps in a movie or cartoon of their own. )

Cons

1. Needs more characters it does have a big selection, but you those characters really don't have enough moves. If your going to give characters such a limited amount of moves you should make more characters to choose from.

2. More fighting environments would have made the game better also. Even though they are destructive they could always be more destructive.

3. The selection of characters they chose for the game was kind of questionable. I mean Daredevil and Elektra are cool characters and all, but in the opening cinema it shows Captain America and Incredible Hulk being taken out. I'm sure they woudl have been able to withstand the imperfects invasion easier than Daredevil and Elektra would be able to. That's just my opinion though.

Overall though I really do think this game has the potential to push it above and beyond in the fighting genre of games. With some improvements in the sequel if and I hope they do make a sequel then this game would be one heck of a game.

If you want a fast action paced game. Then this game is for you. Truthfully playing this game made me feel like i was watching a fighting seen in a movie.

Marvel Rock!

I pre-ordered the Imperfects in May along with the Twikight Princess, seeing that in my Game Informer issue it looked superb. I'm thinking this game looks pretty 'bangin'. So, when I click the start button on my cube I was looking for super, but I recieved sucky.
The story is made of 2 minuit missions which absouluty have no point at all. Though you do play as the evil Imperfects, it still sucks, the level design is pretty shallow, although the detail is extremly deep. You are always fallowed horeds of brain-dead aliens with collosal size guns, who don't even use them half of the time. The movies look like they were made by Speilburg at age 9, with the most cheesy voice-over you've ever heard. The 'Advengers' are all the Marvel comic heros and villains, but that dosen't make sense, Venom and Magnito as the good-guys? What gives?
The multi-player I think is something EA can brag about. Marvels finest have never looked better in any game. The inverments are fully interactive, the characters moves so fine looking. Even the entering and closing one-liners are great(mabey not Iorn-mans), and of corse, the finishing move are so incridibly inginous.
Overal this is one of the games that your cousin who dosin't know crap about games thinks is cool. I'd say rent it, if need too buy it, don't anyone see it.
Peace out.

Imperfect, but still a lot of fun.

This is a fun game, pure and simple. I had a hard time putting it down. However, it does have some shortcomings.

This can easily be compared to Super Smash Brothers in that the controls are very simplistic. Once you know how to control one character, you can control them all. For those who like the easy fighters like Smash Bros, this is ideal. But this may easily turn off the tournament fighter purists who are used to every character being completely different.

The game can play very cheaply. You could be wiping the floors with your opponent. You could have him on the ropes for the entire match, but with a few well-placed background objects being thrown at you, you've lost. This can be very frustrating, especially in story mode.

Story mode can be frustrating at points, but it's the kind of game where if you have any persistence at all, eventually you *will* win. There's not much to do once you do win the story mode and have unlocked everything. It's verses mode from there on out, which really kills replay value.

The new characters, the imperfects, are all well and good. They're a bit too powerful compared to the normal Marvel characters. But once unlocked they can still be a kick to play as. But in any case, they could have easily been dropped in order to include more of the Marvel favorites.

For a Teen rated game, this is rather edgy. Sure there's no blood or gore. But not having blood doesn't mean that some finishing moves aren't severe. Wolverine slashes mercilessly at a prone victim on the ground. That's one of the lighter finishing moves. Paragon actually has an impaling move far worse than that. But because there's no blood, it only receives a Teen.

Language doesn't get downright foul. But there are a few lighter swear words that are downright flippant. When Spiderman has become a role model lately due to the movies, and Storm has always been one of the more soft-spoken characters, the flippancy is entirely inappropriate.

Warning to the parents and tournament fighter purists aside, this game is fun. It's fast paced, the super powers are pulled off nicely and control is very intuitive. It's not the most solid game out there, but it's still fun enough to make it worth the pick up.

A fair warning from an old school Marvel fan

When the word came out about Marvel Nemesis I couldn't help to feel this could be a very promising Marvel game. Who wouldn't? The press release (yeah I should know better) made it look great: 15 or more playable heros from several camps not just one: Avengers, X men, Spiderman and the Thing. So far so good. The team EA put together to produce this game looked good on paper also.

Could this be the game that put some of my favorite Marvel comic heros to life on the screen with a good story line, clean graphics and player models, good sound and a great combat/fighting engine? NO. NO. NO. This is nothing but a brilliant marketing plan that made a few investors some money before the word got out that this game is terrible.

I honestly tried to give this game a chance. I tried it for several hours and it was the biggest disappointment in something that had all the potential to be a great title. If you feel like making a few snickering rich guys richer buy this game so they can take even more more money with them all the way to Switzerland while laughing that they duped you bad.

DO TRUST the reviews out there online. Most of them tell the truth about this game. But before bought it I found ONE review from what appeared to be an old schooler like me. He like me didn't want to spend countless hours memorizing key combos and moves. He wanted to get in the game to play as quickly as possible. He like me didn't want to comb through a player's guide for hours before starting. It made sense.

But heres the truth:

Graphics are horrible. What are these people smoking that give the graphics for this game 4.5 out of 5? From even the online mainstream reviewers.

Sound: Not bad

Playability: Worthless. Repeated scenes. Camera mechanics are horrible!

Shame on you Marvel for allowing this sham to use your label. Your heros should revolt and attack the Marvel building for allowing this junk to promise so much and deliver this mess.
