This video game is by far the worst game we have ever gotten our kids.
The game itself isn't bad actually -- the problem is that it causes huge fights between our children and with our children.
The first issue is that you cannot save the game except at the end of each level, and the levels sometimes can take over an hour to complete -- this is a major problem for us because we have a time-limit on game-playing and that simply doesn't work with this game.
The second issue is sharing -- there are many items that are available during the game, but they are not equivalent and it is difficult to distribute them fairly among the players. This is a particular problem with young players who do not understand why they cannot have the "Pegasus Boots" or the only 1000-gem powerup.
The third issue is that this game requires cooperation between the players to get where you want to go. Unfortunately, some kids want to explore and try and find hidden things on the screen, etc. So you end up with one kid impatiently wanting to finish and other kids dawdling around, and then a fight of course. Not only that, the players can attack each other, kill each other, pick each other up and throw, and steal items from each-other -- AAAARRGH!
Finally, just to add insult to injury, there is a "voting" system at the end of each level where the players can vote for "most annoying player," "least helpful player," etc. and then it tallies up the results, adds in the items that were found during the game, and makes a huge deal over who got the most points and is the "hero of light" ... the worst player is the (...)

I must say that I was excited when I pulled out the tiny 2" round disc out of the box and slaped it into my gamecube. I was in awe when I saw the blend of 2d graphics with stunning 3d effects and with that, good job! The graphics are funky and new, and the game sets a new spin on the world of puzzle games! Thats right I said puzzle games! I was having so much fun, that is, for the first 30 minutes. You begin to realize the game is all about interacting with friends. helping each other out by stepping on a certain switch, or tossing them accross a ridge. Trust the other reviewers when they say: "This is NOT like other Zelda games." This is a lot like a Gaundlet Leagends game; there is no real change. The puzzles are the all the same: bland no brainers. Even though it is filled with puzzles, you never get that feeling of accomplishment when you solve a puzzle in this game, because they're all the same, and all too obvious. And the combat? Oh man, is the combat ever fun! It's just too bad there isn't very much. every five or six switches or so you might find the occational hoard of monsters that you kill with one or two swings, but these are mostly weak. This, however, is from the single-player point of view. The game is obviously designed to be played by more than one person; which is all fine and dandy. I mean, there are lots of games out there ment to be only multiplayer. It's just that you need a GBA and a hook up for EVERY person. Those of you out there who have a GBA raise your hands! Ok, ok, those of you out there willing to go buy a $70 game controller so your friends can play with you raise your hands! That's where the game falls short. No quickie game of one on one action with your friends before you go see a movie. Your buddy didn't bring his GBA! I mean, why should he? They aren't going to card his GBA when he goes and sees the new "R" rated movie tonight because purchasing one isn't required! I think somewhere along pokemon stadium Nintendo thought everyone that owned a N64 had a hand held, name brand game system in their pocket everywhere they went. Well, they could've been right. because then everything could've been played on the orginal gameboy which was out for ten years or so.
So, past all my ranting above, IF you and your friends pocket a GBA. Good deal, this game will be a blast. If not, don't go waist $50. If you were disapointed with Final Fantasy: Crystal Cronicles. Chances are, this'll be about ten times worse.
A Disappointment

Following the Windwaker release - this game is a real let-down. The graphics aren't there ( I know they are retro , but, so what...) - the gameplay is tedious. There is no feeling of mystery or wonder. Even my 9 year old kid won't play it with me. This game is way overpriced for the value received. Wait until it goes for around $10 - then it could be worth a few hours of your time.
Doesn't Even compare to any other Zelda Game.

I bought this game hoping that it would as good or btr than all the other Zelda Titles i have played but i personally thought it really didn't live up to the title. I suppose that multiplayer it would prob. actually be pretty fun but i "not owning a gm advance" nvr got to try that. Anyways for one player the game was difficult and really not that fun...wierd crappy graphics....and i don't really get why they couldn't have just made a game with one link....all in all if you are buying this for multiplayer try it out...but if i not i wouldn't even buy it....just play windwaker tell twighlight princess comes out.....
Not up to par as far as Zelda games go...

Normally, Zelda games are fascinatingly brilliant. An excellent plot, brain-frying mysteries and puzzles, and surprises thrown in the mix are what makes the Legend of Zelda series both amazing and unique. Unfortunately, this particular title has none of the above. The plot was extremely thin, thanks to the lack of originality that is generally standard in the series. Every character was either taken directly from a previous game or are recycled and remodified characters that have already existed. Even the music was unoriginal.
I was upset at the ease of the situatons that were supposed to involve thought to continue foward. These situations were not only few and far between, but those that did exist can, for the most part, be easily solved by a six year old. I have long gotten used to trying method after method of attempting a problem before getting it right. Here it was not necessary, and I truly missed the brain teasers.
On another note, every single element, cut-scene, and event was far too predictable. I found myself consistantly getting bored by guessing accurately what was going to happen next and when. The Zelda series, up until this point, has never been flawed by this horrific pitfall, and the fact that it did has ruined the games potential considerably. I really missed the surprises that I found in Windwaker, and Ocarina of Time, and now that I think on it, every other Zelda game that I've played.
For those of you who have never played any title of the Zelda series except for this and were truly unimpressed, I highly recommend giving the series a second shot. This game is only one flop in over fifteen years of gaming, and unless this genre of game is not for you, I can personally guarantee that you will not be disapointed, I have played nearly every Zelda game under the sun, and this title was the only one in the entire series that truly disapointed me.
Nothing like it since. . . .er, Paper Mario!!!!!

This is adorably cute. It does have many of the basic Zelda memes in place. . . .Grandma in her house, burning bushes, sparkling gems, green-clad Link. . . .but it's two-dimensional, arcade-style gaming. If you're looking for the outstandingly sophisticated Link, Hero of Time adventures seen in the last few years-- this isn't it. Ideal for four Game-Boy-equipped middle-schoolers at a sleepover. Adults are unlikely to enjoy it.
Unbelievably not worth it!

Yes, there are die-hard Zelda fans that will defend this game to the end, but if you're not a kid with 3 friends, all of whom have GBAs (+ link cables), and have played at least one other Zelda game, you're likely to HATE this game.
CHALLENGE. It's easy and redundant--you see all the possible bad guys in the first few levels of the game (if you don't already know them from older games), and they're all ridiculously easy to beat.
ADVENTURE. There's basically no adventure to Four Swords Adventures b/c the game is most linear w/very few extras to "discover."
I'll spare you my feminist tirade on the role of the women in this game, but I will say that the problem's less annoying then in Windwaker--until the end when Zelda kept dying on me. Wait till the next Zelda game.
huge letdown

this does not play like any of the zelda series games. first of all, its a level based system. you go through for about 45 mintues collecting things that you cant keep.....you read that correctly....YOU CANT KEEP!!! you pick up a boomerang and you lose a bow and arrow. rediculous. back to the point, you go through levels. sure it has a story line, but i dont want the game dictated how i should play. thats what i loved the most about the zelda games. sure it keeps the same zelda play, which is fun, but overall this game is a huge letdown if you are expecting previous zelda games.
Be warned, it's got 2-D graphics

I probably should have known this before buying the game, but I didn't and it was a HUGE disappointment. I was never a fan of video games until my little brother got the Nintendo 64 and I discovered the 3-d graphics. From that moment on I've been a huge fan of the Zelda games among others. But to my horror, this game is 2D and the graphics are less than spectacular. I have not actually played the game and I will give it a shot, but if you are like me, think twice before buying this game. Also, I don't own a gameboy, much less two, so I don't know if I'll get to play the multiplayer game. I knew this before buying the game, of course, but I still think that having to buy a game boy per player is a rip off. My guess would be that if the people at Nintendo had wanted to let the first player use the regular gamecube controler, they could have set it up that way. It's like the Tingle Tuner in The Wind Waker. Just another clever marketing gimmick.
