Great Ideas, Awful Execution

The sheer number of cool ideas in Soldner make it worth a play but otherwise don't expect to be blown away.
Had this been released with the intended polish it could have made the Battlefield series look like a simpletons flash game. unfortunatelty the ego of the lead dev combined with the tight-fisted publisher made this game still born. The only reason people are able to play this at all is because a few hardcore fans took it upon themselves to sew up many loose ends. They did this on their own dime. While they should be applauded, it DOES make for a sad commentary on the state of PC gaming.
Anyhow, if you can grab this for $10, go for it. There are still several European servers running last I checked. If you can find a stable game running you'll have a blast.
Poor at Best

I bought this game hoping that it would be a winner like the Battle Field series, or MOHAA. I was VERY disappointed.. The game claims to have realistic damage and many differnt vehicles/aircraft to fly. While their are many different vehicles, they all act alike.. They are difficult at best to control and the details are horrible. The liflike damage is poor, but you can level a whole town with an Abrams, unlike some other war games. This game is not worth the money, go out and buy a game like the Battlefield series, or the MOHAA series. The only thing good I can say about this game is that I am glad that I only paid 38 for this, instead of it's original 50 price tag.
A game with potential

Soldner has a lot of potential. Other reviews here have indicated the numbers of vehicles and weapons, the diversity of which should also be highlighted. Vehicles and weapons range from US to Russian to Chinese to German. Though the balance of so many items is questionable at this point, the diversity and tactical viability of each still has great potential. As the game is still some months from release, I am quite curious to see where the developers take all the elements of this game.
Something else worth noting is the modding potential this game has. Vehicle and weapon data is stored in XML files. That means you don't have to dig into the code or recompile your changes. I think a feature like that will be highly desireable to modders and hobbyists. Whether the game ships with excellently balanced game modes and objects, I don't know, but I have no doubt mod-groups will adapt and improve whatever is there to make it even better and more diverse. I really look forward to seeing what folks are able to do with Soldner.
Another Counterstrike? Or Even Better?

Well, after playing two of the games I've found out each game has it's own uniqness. Counterstrike was game of the year for many years, but has lost its popularity due to the amount of hackers. Soldner is coming out (...) Will this game dominate the shooter genre scene? or will it become a burn? I feel this game will get far, only because the amount of intensity that is involved. Tons of guns, and Tanks, with helis, and Vtol aircraft, taunts , and many more. If you all haven't played the demo get it now..You won't be disappointed...
I LOVE THIS!

Unlike most games, you don't walk into a one mile map loaded with maniacs and 10 different vehicles, you get MORE! The destruction system is great, except it has flaws when you get into a non timelimit server. Tanks cause craters, and you even get a realistic feel when making them. Cars range from sedans and SUVs to HEMTT mobile respawn vehicles. All of the vehicles react different. On most maps, Daytime/nightime features can aid or hinder your attack. As in, Bring out your AH-64s at day, then whip out night planes for some serious bombing. I have one problem, though. The sniper kit will really ruin parts of the base, but it's no problem. Get an M1A1 Abrams and shell everything! Planes have MiGs to secret Raptors, Night planes to transport planes (lag mobiles). Each building is accessible, and I found an awesome map. FIRST STRIKE. It has a four minute fly over a long strip of ice, then a two minute cruise over pure ice cold water, which comes to an island an and easy- to - destroy base. It is fun sneaking throught buildings, preserving everything (so noone thinks your are trying anything sneaky) and them rigging the base. You can hog fences, dive through winodows (which make a lot of noise, espionage people) and even climbing ladders to tops of buildings. It even has a lock-on stinger system for knocking te enemys' fresh new Commanche to peices. It is an awesome game and I reccomend it. I could talk about it forever. You will like it when you sneak past 16 people, a guard tower, a few unpatient people buying choppers, and going RIGHT by them all. I did. And, I made the base a bit smaller. Just buy it.
A good game with some problems

When I first downloaded the beta version of Soldner:Secret Wars I went into the game like a blind mouse. I soon figured out that this was no ordinary 3rd person shooter, it was a massivley customizable war experiense. This game was like an RPG for modern combat. I aslo relized that the most inexperienced gamer could not just join in and start owning every one they saw, instead of a game where you just pick a gun, you use fake money and "purchase" weapons, the better the weapon the larger amount of money. In order to buy better guns you have to play and earn the money. The Unit Customization System(UCS) allows for thousands of different choices, it will be awhile until similar players start showing up. The buildings in soldner can have holes blown in them( by tanks, rockets, grenades, etc.)The only down falls I found with soldner, in the beta demo, is that not all of servers for online play are reliable, the loading process is very long and has nothing to entertain the player, amd the last problem i have seen is that while in first person your gun seems to disappear, and that the hans dont seem to adjust to the gun(i.e. if you have an M4 with a 203 grenade launcher on the bottom the hand seems to be going right through the 203 launcher and holding the barrel. If the full version fixes the different problems found on the beta demo then this game will get a full five stars by my standards.
Soldner, spectacular!

If the producer was ever going to play online in this game, then id rest assure that i would do my duty as a soldier and salute him whenever he passes by. why? simple...this game, like bf 1942, operation flaspoint and upcoming ea joint ops deserves to be one of the best non-linear 1st/3rd person shooters giving gamers the choice of vehichles (70+), weapons (60+) and different soldier classes (medics, engineers, assaults, etc) better yet, if you got sick of your default weapon you can go to weapons counters and buy another one, change your outfits etc. all these different aspects are included in this game which make it very real despite a few downsides. What downsides? well, if you look at the eye candies in www.secretwars.net youll notice bad textures, but this is ofcourse due to the fact that this game's production started long ago plus take too much space in memory. When i say bad texture, i mean that the objects at far distance look bad and sorta muddy in texture. this can be solved in one way and that is to make objects fade at a certain distance. well, forget about and think of the realism, environmental sceneries, buildings and trees can all get damaged when hit by a shell, bomb or run over by a tank or another vehichle. so basically, you call this game the best game of the year. make no mistake =P

I play alot of PC games - this one blows me away. The detail and amount of weapons and vehic is crazy - the single player mode is kind of simple - but the real fun is playing online (no charge) you team up with people all over the world. I does take some practice to be able to drive and fly without crashing, but it's worth the effort. The programers thought of so many things you can do: drive cars, tanks, APC's jeeps, fly choppers jets planes and even VTOL jets, plant explosives with diffrent types of fuses (motion, time or remote) get a sniper kit with camo that makes you invis. get a commander kit to give orders to your team. swim, skydive. hundreds of weapons. It may be the best game I have ever had.
Nice Game!

Soldner: Secret wars is a great game. It does require that you have a monster PC to run it smoothly. I recommend having a Pentium 4 with AT LEAST 512 MB of ram to run it smooth. The game runs pretty nice on low video cards so that doesn't really matter what kind of video card you have.
What i love about this games is you can buy every weapon imaginable. The game has over 60 weapons in it. Everything from a revolver with a scope on it, to rocket launchers you've never heard of. Even more exciting, the game allows you to get 70 vehicles (Note that you can get more Cars, jets, and tanks than weapons). You can get the M1 Abrams, or just a tractor if you want cheap transpotation. Multi player may get frustrating, though, because peopole like to "snipe" you before you can buy your gear.
The game allows you to fly in maps with terrain that's over 20 KM large. You can fly a plane for forever and still see trees and hills passing by! The game gives you such freedom to go wherever you want. One of my favorite things to do is skydive from a helicopter into the enimie's base from like a mile high. Single player is a blast, too because your player has to complete little missions (Like capture a person, or destroy a target) And you win vehicles, and weapons to have more fun with. There is also a new expansion pack that includes desert missions. It is called "Marine Corps". It allows you to buy boats, and subs, and other SWEET things! It is not in the US yet. You can order it online, though.
Bottom line: If you like huge games, and have a fast PC, this game is for you! Don't listen to other people who say they hate the game and it is horrible, they probably haven't played more than 5 minutes - and don't know what they are talking about.
the games works fine after the patches have been installed
