Not too difficult.

My 5 year old son plays this game and has no real trouble with it. He gets stuck in a few spots and it takes him some time to beat them. I have to read a few things for him, but he does okay playing alone.

The game follows the movie and is neat to watch.

Frustrating

We found the controls and graphics of this game very frustrating, from camera angles to getting stuck on objects. My 9-year-old is determined to finish it but she doesn't seem to be enjoying it anymore - often can't find the way to the next level when one is completed, and personally it gives me a headache to even watch it; I can't play it to help her anymore, it flickers so much. Good potential but needed refining.

Exploration? Yay! Adventure? Nay...

First off, I love the CatCF movie. It's my favorite movie of all time. Secondly, I AM a teenage hardcore gamer so you can be sure that what your getting is a good opinion and not from some parent who rated 5 stars because their 5-year-old loves it.

OBJECTIVE: Your name is Charlie Bucket. Your mission? Help 4 unfortunate kids out of their misery. You go around collecting various candies and Oompa Loompas to help you throughout your mission with Willy and Grampa Joe as your guide.

MUSIC: (0/5) Boring and repetitive. In most games, the music will at least loop smoothly so it's blended and sounds pretty good. But here, it skips between each play as if it's serving to remind you that yes, it's still there and it still sucks.

GAMEPLAY: (2/5) Not too bad... pretty basic and pretty boring. Run, jump, throw... nothing exciting or enticing.

GRAPHICS: (3.5/5) Could have been so much better in this field. It is pretty colorful but it's really outdated and plain.

VOICE ACTING: (4/5) Most of the actors from the movie voice their characters (including Charlie and Grampa Joe) but most of them don't really cut the cake. Depp does not voice Wonka. Instead he is replaced by James Arnold Taylor (one of my favorites in American voice acting only topped by Johnny Bosch). If your a gamer you might recognize him mostly from Final Fantasy X (Tidus).

REPLAY: 0/5 Simply put, the game doesn't let you. I'm one of those people who goes through a game collecting EVERYTHING. Well, I did just that. Got all the upgrades, bonus features and the Great Glass Elevator. However, upon finishing the game, access to all of these features became lost. After the frustration of going through all that BS just to get shut out from your rewards is truly frustrating.

So where does this game really shine? Level design. Some of them are straight from the movie and fun to explore. The originals aren't half bad either.

Getting locked out from playing is HORRIBLE. Unless you're a major Charlie fan, don't buy.

This game was way to easy for me - and I'm not an avid gamer. I enjoy games that allow me to compete against friends & family (like Super Smash Brothers) and only occasionally play games that, like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, progress you through levels to complete the game. I typically just don't have the patience to complete this type of game, even if the game is well done & enjoyable.

I told everyone this to say: I completed Charlie & the Chocolate Factory in a weekend - and I was not playing constantly for the whole weekend. Just a couple of hours (at most) each day.

If you're looking for a game that your young child can play, this is the game for you. The controls are very basic, only a couple of tasks really involve thinking things through before you act (it would give a parent an excuse to play the game with their children).

If you're an avid gamer, this game is sure to dissapoint if you purchase it. Rent it if you want an easy game to kill some time, but I don't recommend avid gamers purchase this one.

As a side note - I LOVED the film (and not just because Johnny Depp was Willy Wonka). I saw the film after I played the game, so my view of the movie didn't affect my opinion of the game.

not the best game

I am a grown man. I have always enjoyed the first Willy Wonka movie. I have yet to see the new movie. But, if it's anything like this game, it's not all that different. A very similar plotline gives us older folks (35) a chance to sort of exist inside the story we grew up with. But, the gameplay experience is much too simplistic for an adult. Shame. The movie's always kind of been for the adults really. I decided to play it with my son. Now, there was an enjoyable experience. Extremely colorful, and chocked full of mini games. The Factory is alive with things to see and do. A large assortment of logical puzzles as well as quick button mashing games. Quite long as well. It is entertaining. But, Johnny Depp is not doing the voiceover for Willy Wonka. You'll be surprised to hear that it is James Taylor. For us old fogies, he's an incredible singer from thousands of years ago ;-). You really can't go wrong with this, though. It's very magical.

Just Another Headache

I just got done playing a demo for Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. Let me tell you, this game is a headache on a disk. First, lets start off with the basics.

Sound- The whole time you are playing this game, you hear these noises. Not normal noises, but weird dripping chocolate noises. The music is annoying and repeats constantly.

Gameplay- This game is based around a big factory, with chocolate oozing and more. It is like one big puzzle. Unlock one part to get to the next. Not really anything mind blowing.

Controls- This is why I hated the game. The controls are horrible. You are in this weird 3rd person camera and it switches and fliks every time you jump or run. Possibly the worst controls ever.

Overall, this is a good game, but I wouldnt reccomend for over the age of 12. Renting suggested, buying not reccomended.
