the most delightfully disturbing game I've played

If you like survival horror you will not be disappointed! The graphics are amazing and the sound is very creepy. Make sure you have a decent 3D card. The mood is very dark and I had to play the game for only an hour at a time to keep my cool. For the best experience, play this game in the dark. Definately not for small children or those easily offended. The play control is not the best, but SH3 is worth getting for the sheer horror value! The only game that comes close is Silent Hill 2.

My Least Favorite SH

warning, to play this you HAVE to play SH1, its kinda connects

Heather is a normal teenage girl, or at least that's what she believes, who lives with her dad, in a town not to far from Silent Hill. But one trip to the mall sends her world spiriling out of control, as a trip to the bathroom seems to rid the world of all human contacts, and replaces them with nightmarish creatures. Not only that but a strange man calling himself a detective is stalking her, as is an odd grey haird lady who speaks of "God's coming" and the transversion of this world.

What could this all mean, how does heather fit into it? Maybe a trip to silent hill will clear things for her.....or kill her.

I have to agree that silent hill 2 was a pretty good game. It's seriously disturbing at times, and I dont scare easily. I'm looking into buying silent hill 3 and 4 but I'm wondering why silent hill 3 is so damn expensive?? I enjoyed silent hill 1 and 2 so much I even bought the Movie silent hill it was just as good as the games, well almost. I recommend these games to anyone that enjoys a good scare. Silent hill 2 kept me feeling like this guy is in so much desperation, and just stuck in this nightmare. You go deeper and deeper into this nightmare and just when you think it's just getting worse you finally get some fresh air, but just to be thrown back into the dark tight spaces. It kind of gives me a tight feeling in my chest, and it's just a game. Once you get past going in cirles trying to find something you over looked, twice, the game can be pretty good. Buy it.

What the heck! My computer is new and still wont run SH3!

Ok. Last fall I ordered a brand new computer from DELL specifically for playing PC games. I have played MAFIA, ALLIED ASSAULT, ALONE IN THE DARK, and many other high graphic games. So when I saw SH3 and remembering how everyone raved about the previous SH games, I was pumped to get this game. Here's the big shock for ya, THE GAME WONT LOAD! It says I dont have the right graphics card. HOW THE HECK CAN THAT BE! MY COMPUTER WAS BUILT FOR THIS EXACT REASON! I COULD UNDERSTAND IF THIS WAS a 486 SVGA, but it's DELL'S LATEST AND GREATEST!!!!

So I write Konami, but to no avail, I haven't heard back from them. I have even attempted to call these jokers! Bottom line, SH3 might be a great game...IF IT COULD INSTALL PROPERLY and if you could get an ounce of FREAKIN CUSTOMER SUPPORT! Konami wants your money, not you as a client, BIG DIFFERENCE! Maybe I can sell this on Ebay to someone who hasn't read the bad reviews.

STAY AWAY...FAR AWAY...FROM SILENT HILL 3!

anyone saying their video card is not good enough for the game should have read the game specs. The game requires a video card with pixel & vertex shader capability, which if on most agp video cards even the cheap geforce 4 ti4200. On the bottom of the box, it says geforce mx400 not supported (...). Besides all of the technical complaining people are doing, the game is very cool, scary, and beatiful artistically if you have the correct specs to play it. The controls are exactly the same as ps2 controls if you have a pc controller like a sidewinder,(even an improvement over silent hill 2 controls) plus if you hate pc controllers, you can buy a usb adapter to plug a ps2 contoller into your pc at radioshack. Just thought these reviews needed some clearing up due to the excessive low grades it got over simple technical issues.

OK, THIS GAME SUCKS SO MUCH THAT IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND THE RIGHT WORDS TO DESCRIBE HOW PISSED OFF I AM.
EXPLAINING: EVERYTHING PEOPLE SAID HERE IS TRUE, MY COMPUTER SHOULD BE ABLE TO RUN THIS CRAP, BUT, GUESS WHAT???? IT CAN'T.
YOU FROM KONAMI SHOULD PUT A LABLE IN THIS CRAP BOX SAYING:
"...HEY, IF YOU WANT TO PLAY THIS, STOLE A COMPUTER FROM NASA..."
YOU GUYS, STAY AWAY FROM THIS, DON'T BUY IT...

4-5 stars

I never give a 5 star review but this game is very close to a 5 star game. YOU WILL JUMP from this game (or maybe twitch). It has a religion based storyline that keeps you wondering what's going to happen next.
You're given a choice in 2D or 3D controls. I recommend 3D controls but other people say that they like 2D. To each his own.
I played it on the easy difficulty and easy puzzle setting and it was actually a little too easy. As you can see, this gives the game replay potential. Play on easy Difficulty but hard puzzles, or hard difficulty with easy puzzles.
Now the tiny little bad side. The monsters are a little repetitious but once you clear a room it's cleared. no respawning of more monsters just cuz you returned. when you start a new chapter, it will introduce a new monster but you'll probably see more of them as the game goes on.
Pick this up and enjoy it multiple times.

Wicked game!! Probably the best in the series!!

This game is amazing! It's unsettling, exciting, and scary as hell, the way a horror game should be! The beginning's a little confusing, but as the game goes on, it all begins to suck you in.

The graphics are just gorgeous. The voice acting was pretty good in the game. The puzzles make you think. I LOVE the soundtrack.

The controls kinda bugged me when I played the demo. So I got a gamepad and it is much better. I highly recommend a USB Gamepad. I use the Logitech Cordless RumblePad 2, and I love it.

The only other thing that bothered me was that it came in 5 CDs! (6 if you include the soundtrack) It would be much easier to install if it was all on a DVD-ROM, which I think is available somewhere. Thank Konami that you only need to put in CD 1 to play it.

Silent Hill is arguably the perfect nightmare (or one of). If you love horror games, this is a requirement. I personally prefer it over Resident Evil.

For all you people who didn't like this game, I really pity you. I had no problems running this game AT ALL. If you don't like the controls, BUY A DAMN GAMEPAD AND QUIT WHINING!!

Here are my specs:

Microsoft Windows XP SP2
Gigabyte GA-K8NS-Ultra-939 F6 AWARD BIOS
Athlon 64 2500+ @ 2.53 MHz
LG 16X DVD-ROM (48X CD-ROM)
Kingston 1GB PC3200 DDR RAM
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer
Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2

If you have some of these specs, you should be fine to play the best and creepiest Survival/Horror/Adventure series... SILENT HILL!

GRRRRR.....

Okay well I got this game after buying part 2 and not being able to play it due to the awful graphics. It really wouldn't work on my new pc. Well first thing I noticed was the graphics were much better. Well then after a cut scene I had to use the move buttons. That's what the grrr is for, I played for like 5 minutes and the camera angle is awful. The movements are annoying to the point I just said forget it. I am wondering about 4. I have spent money on part 2 and 3 and haven't liked either one; I don't think I am wasting any more money on these games. I don't know who sat down and said this is a good way to use the cameras in this game. No doubt they were tripping or something. Really I would not suggest buying this unless you're in a really good mood and want to be put into a bad one. By the way the stupid monsters look so silly. They are not scary unless maybe your 6 well probably not even then. You cant really see any kind of details in them cause their isn't any. The whole blood thing people keep talking about just look like discolored walls. I buy and play a lot of games. Some are really great (Half life, Deus Ex, Fear) but this was just awful. I know I said that already. Pouting I want my 14 bucks back.

Video Card Incompatibility

I shelled out the money for this game after never having problems with any PC games and I get it home and install it and it tells me my video card doesn't have enough memory or something. I still haven't gotten to play it on the PC, but have on the PS2 and it is a great game, I just can't believe there isn't a graphics setting in case you don't have a newer video card. Most games are made to work with different setting to suit both old and newer computer set-ups, but not this one.
