what can i say i looked at this game and thought it was gping to be another (...)'o'rama game much like mutant wars and wolverine's rage for the game boy color, boy was i ever wrong. if you've ever played the classic x-men arcade game then this game is for you! it captures all the elements of a classic side scrolling brawler! i very rare quality in games today. it reminds me of many classic game such as the final fight series teenage mutant ninja turtles 2,3, and 4, and streets of rage. i know there's more classic games that could be compaiered to this but who cares i'm here to rate this one. reign of apocalypse is not only for x-fans but for any true gamer. in fact coming from myself a lifelong x-fan this game may be dissapointing beacuse of story line and unreal sayings. for example if you know how storms talks from the animated series and the comics she speaks in a much diffrent type of manner in this game. the game is simple work ypur way across the screen. no platforms to jump to. no mazes to figure out. no mind racking stuff like that, just pure brawling! i plan on buying aback up copy of this game cause i injoyed it so much! and i havent even got to the good part!!!! you have the option of playing the game with a friend so yes it is a 2 player game. and the best part it has a built in mutant academy like game within it to play agenst another person with more playable mutants, and arenas then the real mutant academy! this basicly is 2 great games in one. i went nuts tring to find out what mutants were in this game! i searched more then 200 sites tring to find a list and couldn't!! so for those of you who may be worring that your favorite x-man aint here heres the list.
wolverine
cyclops
storm
rogue
sabretooth
nightcrawler
sauron
angel/archangel
pyro
blob
cable
gambit
phoenix/jean grey
juggernaut
magneto
psylocke
beast
colossus
silver samurai
bishop
apocalypse
thats alot of playable people for one game. also note that most of these mutants are only playable in 2 player modes. so to rap this long review up in 3 simple words "buy this game" see ya later
X-Men Isn't Classic

If you fondly remember that great early 90's X-Men arcade game, then pay attention...this ain't it. "X-Men:ROP" is indeed done in the same style as the afore mentioned classic, but suffers from a case of flaw-itis. What are those flaws...well I'll tell you. First off play control is a bit awkward and a bit slow. The jump button is the right hand trigger, and for big hands that isn't always easy(trust me). Your X-men also doesn't like to be bothered to run, they crawl. Rouge has some great animation, but she needs to haul it. There is a dash move but enemies will hit you if you try to use it to escape. Enemies will crowd around you. and since there is no defense you're toast. Not to mention the fact that they can attack you during your attack, making it sometimes impossible to advance in the game. The sound is terrible. Tiny punches and "arrgghh" when you die. Bosses don't make any flashy entrances, and they all have the same voice. Given Game Boy Advances sound potential..someone messed up. The bosses you encounter are unlocked once you beat them. You can use them to fight a la street fighter, but you can't fight the CPU. They are only available via the gamelink. Great marketing, poor programing. So if you are interested in any of the game's cool bosses(Jean Grey, Psylocke, Gambit)then get a friend with the game link and another game pack.So what's good about it. The graphics are great. The X-Men have great animation and the characters are nicely detailed. Background graphics are cool too. Even though they aren't playable in one player mode, the fact that some oool characters are in the game as bosses or mini-bosses is a great idea. If there is a next time, I would like to see the unlockable characters selectable in the one player mode(hint hint). And even with its short comings the game is still fun. It's the X-Men.
Just like the Arcade Classic

This side scrolling adventure is a reminiscent of the Konami beat em up classic that was an arcade game in the early 90s. As you interact with over 40 different X men, you must destroy the forces of the ancient mutant named Apocalypsein an alternate timeline where he rules the earth.
In this twisted alternate timeline, some of your friends have changed diplomatic stance with you to enemy and vice versa. Your goal is to alter the timeline to it's original form. You can earn points by using special moves, which you can use to improve your character's skills.
Overall, this game should be a great side scroller, competing with jurassic park III the DNA factor and Spider-man: Mysterio's Menace.
I've missed side-scrollers!

People keep harping on this game because it's short, or it's a side scrolling fighting game, or what have you. Personally, I've really missed side scrolling games. With all the ridiculously cute games on the N64, or the 3D schlock they pumped out just because they could do 3D games... I've been dying for some more good, classic, side scrolling action. Between this, Final Fight One, Castlevania, and maybe a new R-Type, I'm finally able to play new games in the style I loved and missed so much.
If you're one of these 12 year old kids who's grown up with more whiz-bang systems and uses words like "phat", then you're probably going to be pretty let down. At 24 years old and already wishing things were more like when I was a kid, the only thing I find wrong with this game is some of the character design. Maybe two more characters would be nice too, but out of all the costumes various X-Men have worn the costumes for Rogue and Cyclops are just terrible.
Anyhow, buy this if you're a comic fan, or if you've been missing what I consider "classic games". (Ok, it's not Dig-Dug or Dragon's Lair, but you know what I mean.) If that doesn't appeal to you, I'm sure a new Pokemon game will be out soon enough.

this game is really fun for a person who like scrolling games. But the graphics are lacking and rogue is hard 2 use which reminds me, there are only 4 useable characters in 1 player mode.
This Game is not as fantasic as it looks

I bought this game a few days before, and it really is not that good.I agree with some of the reviwers on the sound, it is really owful. I completed the game 4 times within one day using hte 4 characters. I got it refunded the next day. The plot (is aweful) and the mutant power each of the character has does not help very much. Wolferine is the easiest to use, and rouge is the most difficult character. Personally I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, save up your cash to buy some other games. Frankly, it isnot even worth one star.

ok, so it's not the greatest game. It is short, and if you pump all your xp points into strength the game isnt much of a challenge (an hour at the least, hour and a half at the most). The sound is awesome though, and so are the backgrounds. The graphics, while anime-ish for rogue, are really good and entertaining. The side scrolling story is somewhat lacking, but the multiplayer is the real meat of the game. Fighting with all the different characters is great, and co-op can be really fun (and since its short you can try varying stratigies with xp points). Theres a lot of work that needs to be done for the next x-men GBA game, but i'd still recomend this game to any one who enjoys x-men remotely, just cause the multiplayer is that fun.
A side-scrolling adventure!

When I first bought this game, I didn't think it'd be that great after seeing many bad reviews. But when I popped it into my Gameboy Advance, I knew this game was awesome. There are so many levels, and it's very challenging. You can play as Cyclops, Storm, Wolverine, or Rouge. Each character has a mutant power you have to build up. This is between a must buy and buy!
More fun to play with friends.

My brother and I, both being fans of the X-men, both bought this game. I admit, the gameplay does get a bit repetitive, but I still liked the game a lot. You're given different slots to play with, and your progress is saved, so you're not stuck writing down codes or replaying the same beginning levels when you realize that you lost the codes you spent time writing down. As you progress through levels you're able to put more points into your character's stats. This actually takes strategy (do you make your character's special more powerful or do you give yourself more strength or life?) The controls are not very hard (a very small learning curve), and if the gameplay gets too monotonous, change characters.
I'm all for complex games with deep storylines and diverse gameplay, but occassionally I need something where I just get to beat bad guys up. Let's all face it: That's what the old side scrollers were especially good for.
All that being said, the game really shines when you get to play with a friend. You can help one another through the levels (although it doesn't save.) No matter what you have against this game, you have to admit that it is fun beating up Apocolypse as your favorite X-men with your friends. If you already own the game and haven't tried playing with someone else, I really recommend it. Games are always more fun when you have someone to share them with.
3D beat em up against 100s of robots

The X-Men are back (Cyclops, Storm, Wolverine and Rouge) on a quest to discover who has destroyed the mutant's mansion! It is of course Apocalypse, if you could not tell from the title, a huge mechanized alien bent on destroying humanity. Anyway, this is a 3D beat them up game, which is reminiscent of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, because you have to fight countless robots. Unfortunately these countless robots all look the same, which makes for a boring game. Until you find the leader of each level, such as the Blob, Cable and Apocalypse himself. The game is pretty boring because of lack of different enemies, so it's a good thing that there is a battery save function. The graphics are stupendous, there are lots of moves and combinations, and the animations look like they came straight out of a comic book. The button configuration is unique, but a good one, R button is jump, L button is a mutant power, the B button is a fierce attack and the A button is a quick attack.
