not as good as version 3

it's simple.. if you have an xbox, get xbox live. it makes every game twice as fun and has some other nice features. you can download updates not only for some of your games, but for your xbox, too.

but the question here isnt whether or not to get xbox live, its what exactly should you buy? from using all 3 (the starter kit, version 2 and version 3) and the prices i've seen on amazon, i would reccommend either buying the starter kit or version 3.

version 2 is only a little better than the starter kit, in my opinion.. but not $10 better. if you have the money, you want to go for version 3, but if you dont have the $10 for version 3 instead of 2, you might as well save another $10 and get the starter kit. so what the heck did i just say? i said buy version 3!

Live is a great service that really does hsow that online console gaming can be a viable future. This version comes with Mech Assault, easily one of their most popular online games, and Tetris, which isn't really anything new, but it's a good standby.

There can be lag on the headset, and how lobbies and the details about how the service is used can greatly vary from product to product, as each developer has done thins differently.

At it's best!!

Xbox Live is no where compareable to Sony's Playstation 2 online capabilities. Any game provides hours upon hours of extra gameplay after the single player mode, which I haven't even played since getting Xbox Live. And how can you beat content downloads such as extra levels, updated rosters, new vehicles, and new maps? Not to mention the awesome friends list so you ALWAYS have someone to play and talk ... to via the communicator. High speed internet access is reqiured to play, which means no lag, I have yet to experience it and my cable modem is on the other side of the house. Playstation 2, haha, lag city. And who cares about playing Madden 2004 online, Xbox Live will have XSN sports network in a few weeks providing any sport you can think of online, with tournament and playoff options inluding leauges you can create and invite your friends. I think enough has been said, trade in or sell that ... Playstation 2 and do us all a favor and get Xbox and Xbox live. You'll thank me and be glad you did. Peace out, time to play online with Xbox Live.

Su-perve performance!

I very much enjoyed this product. It only has a few downfalls....

The headset has a lag, for example......

If you say something to another person, you can here it in the head set, it also has a small delay.

In some games the frame rate is degraded, and performance speed slows down. Almost like having 56k.

Overall: Yes it is worht the money, but if you have to pay more than 50 dollars to buy a router, or something else to hook it up than no, it is not worth buying.

It wipes out the comptetition, but vast improvements is need

I love Xbxo Live, but the lag is very high and we are PAYING for a what should be FREE P2P service... When M$ hosts no-lag servers, then it will be a 5! There were a couple up for about 3 weeks for Unreal Championship and a few for Soldier of Fortune II, this area must be improved upon!

Xbox live fun, but sometimes just frustrating.

Xbox live is really fun if your playing the right game. In some of the games there is a very high amount of lag. But on some there isn't any lag at all. So xbox live is a good idea that will only get better. I hope it's perfect by the time Halo 2 comes out

NICE!

Xbox Live is one of the greatest things that has come out for any gaming system ever. Being able to play online with millions of other players is just a blast. Whats even better is the ammount of games that this is going to see. There are over 30 more games coming out before this upcoming christmas for xbox live and all should be a blast. The one and only problem that parents should know about this product is the ammount of foul language you hear while playing. People lose their cool all the time playing when losing to other gamers and start swearing like you cant believe. I'm 15 and i know sometimes while playing i too lose it and start. I just thought this should be brought to the attention of parents with kids still in elementary school. You might not want to expose your kids to this kind of talk quite yet. Other then that this was the best thing i have ever spent 50 bucks on.

I bought XBox Live yesterday and if this review seems incoherent in spots, it's because I was up all night and early this morning playing. It's better than I thought.

I have a headstart because I'm a bit techy. I knew that I'd need some RJ45 Cat 5 cable. So I got an overpriced bright blue 14 foot length at the local CompUSA for 30 bucks. That's long enough for it to reach my Netgear RP114 router which is under my desk in the next room. I plugged it into an empty slot, turned on the XBox and put in the Live disk.

It loaded XBox Live software to the XBox disk in about 45 seconds and then started playing videos. I thought they were part of the setup but they're not. Just take out the disk, power down and power up and you have a new menu on the XBox bootup. Nice.

I let it autoconfigure and it did a good job of guessing but it couldn't connect at first. I went to the website and it was easy to find the instructions for my particular router. I entered a new IP address at the Router for the XBox and started again. I made the adjustments on the XBox manual configuration and it worked like a charm.

The registration is a bit tedious - filling out addresses and personal info takes a long time with the XBox controller. But I was up and running in no time. I picked my gamertag (sixoseven) and it was available. Cool!

The disk I got has demo versions of GPMoto, the superbike race, SUPER COOL and MechAttack, AWESOME. So you don't have to buy full blown versions to play online. I didn't expect that. I had to wait until my wife gave up the big TV so I didn't get started until about 12 midnight West Coast time. Still, there were people ready to play as soon as I got hooked up. Needless to say, most of them were in Western Europe. Wow!

The voice thingy works brilliantly, but sometimes it's hard to understand French accents with the Helium voice. Which is just as well sometimes when the trash talk gets crazy. I have to say, even though some gamers get rude, the network is a step above your average chat room in civility. Plus if you really don't like someone, you can gang up on them. But you can also meet cool people - while playing Destruction in MechAttack some of us discussed the ending to Matrix Reloaded. Great!

This dimension of play is great. You will find yourself shouting, groaning, laughing and discovering personalities behind the robots (or motorcycles as the case may be). I'm really looking forward to trying a first person shooter, I'm sure it will be incredibly great. I've already made some new friends from France and the UK (since I've been playing in their daylight time zones) and I'm looking forward to building up my reputation in a bunch of game worlds.

XBox is everything it promised to be. It's worth respecting Microsoft for, and for me that's really saying something.
