NANCY DREW GAMES

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 13 / 35

Although my kids haven't played this particular Nancy Drew game before, I would just like to express how very impressed I am with these PC games. In many cases PC games are overrated. However, in this case these quality games are clean, fun, and well worth the price.

Another Great Nancy Drew game!

IF your like me you have probably played all the Nancy Drews games. (some probably more then once) but if not dont worry. The good thing about these games is you can start at any game and not feel like youve missed anything. Nancy Drew and The Phantom of Venice was a great game. I have to say out of the 18 games there are this one is in my top 5.The Story line is very exciting. An elusive phantom is stealing from Venice. He wears a mask and no one can seem to figure out who he (or she!) is! so thats why the police of Venice call on YOU as Nancy Drew to crack the case. Your undercover and ready to uncover all the secrets Venice has to offer. The characters are fun to talk to, the music is new and goes right along with the Venice theme, the puzzles and games are a challenge and the graphics have progressed so much in the last few games. If you cant wait for the game after this one there is a teaser about the next game after you finish this one...But im not going to tell you what it is! Thats something your have to sleuth out on your own!

Bravissima!!! Nancy Drew!!!!!!

I have gotten all the Nancy Drew Series. But this is by far the best and most entertaining and educational!! I have been to Venezia and awaited with much anticipation for the Phantom of Venice and I was not at all disappointed but enthused by everything it has to offer. I speak Italian but found the way they had of teaching others was surely one for the books of learning any language with much ease and enjoyment! I look forward to putting my cat suit on and dancing in the club! lol got many boos at first but became a dancing queen in no time and worked har for my euros to get all those Italian shoes!! I was even happy to pick through the debris throughout Venice to earn extra money. (even though Venice is pretty meticulous) I love Scopa!!! A favorite card game of mines and several times played endless games with "Enrico"! The Phantom of Venice was never boring! It had tons of excitement and puzzles that will keep you on your toes. Che` Brava` Nancy Drew!!! Complimento!! Who ever gets this series will love it! I give it 10 stars if I could!! Buon` Fortuna tutti!!!(Good Fortune Every one!)

Awesome Game!

OK. I've played all of the ND games, and though this is not as good as the first ones, it is very good. Here is my review.

The Plot: In this game, you play as Nancy Drew who is working for the government organization called the GdiF. Your goal is to uncover the phantom who has been stealing Venice's valuable artwork. Even though the idea of a teenager working for the government is highly unlikely, you were somehow able to believe it in this game! I would give the plot a 10/10.

The Puzzles: The puzzles in this game were very easy in my opinion. They were not nearly challenging enough. The good thing about the puzzles were that many of them were more like mini-games. Therefore, you can play them over and over. I give the puzzles a hesitant 7/10.

The Characters: The characters were very well developed in this game. They were all realistic and believable. You felt like you knew them by the end of the game.

The Length: This game was just a tad short. Not as short as the previous game, Creature of Kapu Cave, but still pretty short. It only took me 3 days to solve! I give the length a 7/10.

Overall: This game was good. It was almost as good as the first ones, but not quite. If this is your first ND game, I would start with a different one. If you've already played the other games, I think you will really enjoy this one!

Hope I helped!

Not bad, but could be better

I've played a few of the Nancy Drew games and I have to say that this one is not as fun as the other ones I've played. The plot was interesting and I enjoyed the scenery. The problem, though is in the puzzles. The puzzles are not challenging, just tedious. The game also seemed a little rush. There wasn't as much detail as I have seen in other games and it was fairly short. The final challenge was boring and probably lasted less than a minute.

If you like the Nancy Drew mysterys I am sure you will enjoy this game. It's a fun game. It just doesn't rank when compared to previous titles.

Very Good Game, A Little Short

We have enjoyed all of the Nancy Drew games so far and The Phantom of Venice is not an exception. Here are my observations:

This game has a great interface and it is very easy to master moving "Nancy" and accessing the inventory.

Some of the puzzles were a little less challenging this time around (we did have to look up a "cheat" for one), but still very fun.

The plot was better than average and was a very good mystery.

The game play time was a little shorter than previous Nancy Drew games.

We played this as a family (12, 16, & adult) over three days and everyone enjoyed it.

We recommended this and the entire series for good family entertainment!

Not as good as the demo

I bought this game as I was completely enthralled with the demo, expecting that this game woudl emerse me in European culture and would be endlessly intriguing in the style of classic Nancy Drew. Boy, was I ever disappointed. I believe there is a lot of false advertising with this game. For example, the game advertises that the thief gets bolder and bolder....and that you must stop him/her before it gets too late. Actually she really doesn't. A few more thefts happen and then you catch her.. Also the flash back which is shown at the beginning of the game does not correspond to what actually happens. In fact Nancy doesn't randomly get locked into a room which fills up with water. Instead, she enters the room, opens up a crate, sees an artifact, identifies the culprit, and then the water fills. Why show a flash back if it isn't even accurate? At least the player could have opened the crate and seen the statue -- before the water filled, giving the actual statue in the house, more significance and flair in the actual game.

The rest of the game was ok. I didn't really get the crush the contractor had on Nancy. Rather he just seemed needy and disturbed. I didn't really notice any flirting per say, certainly nothing which woudl charm. The other characters were not well developed -- in fact, you couldnm't really speak to them or ask many questions. Prudence, whom you call, was given a contrived voice, which really grated. I also didn't get much from calling Ned/Hardy's. They spoke about car problems, but the dialogue didn't interest me much.

Nancy is also back to babbling to herself in the bathroom, which I expect is an effort to make the game clever and charming, but just makes Nancy appear insane. There is also a sequence in which Nancy must dance on stage to get a suit for a task she needs. This task made her appear to be a stripper on the stage, shaking her booty for the audience. Yes, she doesn't strip, but it felt like a strip/sexual tease of sorts to make the crowd go wild for you. Gross. Just gross.

The game was clever overall. I enjoyed spying of Fango and breaking into his office for information. The mystery was well constructed -- and all pieces fit into the whole. I also liked the fact that there were several interesting challenges in the game - such as the stake out, playing scopa, and chasing the thief through the metro system.

Overall, the game was ok. I enjoyed playing it. I believe $19.99 was way too much and I regret not waiting for its price to have dropped on Amazon to $9.00 or less before purchasing it. The mystery was fun, but not engrossing. The magic of the NAncy Drew series has not returned.

Some of the puzzles were a bit ridiculous, including the one in which water fills the room. You are not given enough time to tinker and solve before you drownd. In another, you cannot solve the puzzle until you listen to all extensions of a long automated phone system which was reminiscent of calling a phone number...in which youa re given five options to press -- and then given five options within those options ...and you have to painstakingly listen to each one...and only then Nancy will suddenly get an intuition which tells where the location of a site, which you have already found before that revelation but can't activate until you listen to all the options.

The blooper reel at the end was cute and clever -- but just an ego-stroking gesture on the past of Her Interactive, to make stars of its sdevelopers by h aving you sit through all the credits to get to them....

One of the good things about this game is that Nancy is treated as a professional as opposed to the usual condescdending manner in which others engage her.

Would I recommend buying it? No. You're not missing out by letting this one go. But if you are a die hard Nancy fan, go for it. You will engage the classic Nancy Drew fare.

This game was clever, and good, but not brilliant.

While still fun, I miss the old Nancy Drews

The entire Nancy Drew series has been amazing to me. This one is also fun but I felt like it was missing somethings that made the old Nancy Drew games great.

First of all, the puzzles are still intriguing and requires a bit of thought. However, they are pretty easiliy solved and the way to solve them is a lot more obvious than the old Nancy Drew games. I remember how there would be hints to the answers of the puzzle throughout a house or throughout the game instead of just it being there for you. However, this game overall is definitely better than some of the more recent Nancy Drew games.

Second, I always enjoyed having lots of dialogue and getting to get to know the culprit throughout the game. In this game, there's almost no dialogue.

There were also some interesting ways to make money and you can buy clothes, which I thought was a nice addition to the game.

Lastly, Nancy steps outside of her usual amateur sleuth roles into a private investigator. While it was an interesting and amusing change to this game, I would rather have the amateur sleuth back.

This game is better than the more recent games but do not expect anything like the classic Nancy Drew games.

one of my favorites

First off I'd like to say that I've played all 18 of the Nancy Drew games and this one is one of my favorites! I played in short bursts at a time so I could make the game last longer (it was one of the shorter ones.) The plot is fantastic, you as Nancy Drew are called to go to venice to help the Italian police infiltrate a crime ring and recover stolen art. Nancy has to do many "Spy things" like picking locks, snooping, and going undercover while still being able to enjoy the perks of Venice (being sung to by gondoliers, eating gelato, dressing up for carnivale). This game is truly fantastic and a joy to play, although I reccomend it for older girls/teens/adults because some of the puzzles are difficult. Definately in my top five favs, I reccomend it to all!

Awesome Game-but short lived

I've played 5 or so Nancy Drew games in the past and this one definately held it's own. Moving Nancy around Venice is simple and there are plenty of ways to get distracted by shopping, talking with characters, playing SCOPA or learning Italian. I loved playing this game and I am completely facinated with the Italian Culture and language. My only complaint would be that the game was a little short. I finished the game in two days (but it definatly wasnt easy on senior detective). Great game, and a lot of fun!!!
