We took this to the beach and the whole family enjoyed the 3 different games offered on the Crosswords. Even my younger sister(27 yrs.) who never had a nintendo decided she wanted one just to have this game to pick up and play whenever. It has a pause and save so you can stop and play later.

The crosswords are easy and quick to do. there are two varieties of difficulty. The big plus is it also comes with "find a word" and "anagrams". The anagrams can be challenging but they are a lot of fun to complete.

What's a ten-letter word for "simplistic?"

That's right. "Crosswords." If you're halfway decent at solving crossword puzzles--i.e., you can finish most NY Times daily puzzles and at least half of the Sunday ones--this game is most definitely not for you. Even the hardest level is no more challenging than the puzzles in those two-inch thick puzzle books you can buy at the grocery check-out for two dollars. That said, if you happen to have a bright eight year-old lying around the house, this is a great way to introduce him or her to the joys of solving. The software looks great, works perfectly and is easy to understand. Just don't expect any cleverness from the clues or, even worse, to learn anything at all from playing Nintendo Crosswords.

Good for Crossword beginners

The crossword section of this game is really easy, I think it would be better for beginners or kids. It does a great job of recognizing handwriting though and there are a ton of crosswords, so I don't think you'll run out of them for a while!
I like the small wordsearches that fit on one screen, but when they get larger, it's hard to find words while having move the actual puzzle all over the screen.
I really like the anagrams, I spent more time doing those then anything else!
If you'd like to get into Crosswords or have a kid who would, then check this out. If you're already an avid player of Crosswords this would be too easy for you.

Crosswords is a fun game. Makes you think and sure passes the time if you are waiting in a doctors office.

Too easy!

It's a little boring, at least for me. You have to get through too many simple crosswords before you get to anything slightly interesting. I'd like something in between this version and the NY times version. I'm smart but not brilliant.

I agree with the other reviewers that the handwriting recognition is great with this game. The main issue I'm having is that the Easy and Medium puzzles are ridiculously easy, and the game is set up so that one must complete them before advancing to the more difficult levels. I think this game would be an excellent choice for those reviewers that complained about the NY Times version being too difficult for them. New York Times Crosswords

I found the Word Search section to be a bit challenging on the larger puzzles; because the puzzle is too big to fit on the screen, a lot of scrolling is necessary, so entire words may be split.

As someone else mentioned, only one puzzle may be saved at a time, so if you are halfway finished with, say, an anagram, you can save your progress but cannot move to a new puzzle without either completing the saved anagram or deleting your progress.

Has anyone played this game long enough to know when the next levels are "unlocked?"

Great and simple crossword puzzle fun

The DS is a handheld that is simply made for crossword puzzles, and Crosswords DS doesn't disappoint. Featuring 1,000 puzzles (including word searches and anagrams) that are relatively simplistic but fun, Crosswords DS suffers from a bland presentation and sadly there is no multiplayer mode to speak of either. However, where Crosswords DS really shines is with the puzzles themselves, which are cleverly designed and enjoyable, and the game uses the DS' touch screen capabilities pretty well. Fans of crossword puzzles who found the superior New York Times Crosswords game from Majesco a little on the difficult side will surely get their money's worth here as well, and for fans of crossword puzzles in general, Crosswords DS is a more than worthwhile pick up.

It is fun and the anagram games really make you think. The wordsearch is also really good and so is the crosswords.

Not sure I would purchase this again

It's been kind of annoying. So far, I have only unlocked 5 puzzles on the crossword side. The word search is fun, but hard to maneuver thru the words just because of the size of the ds. Lastly, the anagrams are so-so though some of the words they say are real kind of seem flukey.
The other reviews about the handwriting recognition are spot on. It does do a good job w/that. But if puzzles is your thing, get Professor Layton-that was sooo much fun.
