This game is a very fun fighting game. Some of the battles are way crazy difficult on normal, imagine on the highest setting. Some of the battles are very one sided. The AI controls are questionable as it seams to be very weak and retarded in its logic one second then super ultra mega perfect the next. No offense is meant towards any person. I.E. Your opponent will be one punch away from defeat and you will have two full health bars, then the AI will unleash a flurry of combos leading to your defeat. Other times it wont attack when you are weak or your guard is down and just stand next you you blocking. There are some unexpected pieces in this game that are very enjoyable, and the cut scenes are skipable, but are enjoyable to watch. When you play, you always play as the winning side in the show, so whomever won that fight in the show, you will play as, good or bad guy. Your first time play through will be annoying after each win because of the unlockables, but that happened in previous DBZ games. The controls are easy, easy to be both a button masher and a button master, either way could win the fight. The graphics are great to watch, yet they take nothing away from the experience in the game. I highly recommend this game to any DBZ fan or any body that likes fighting games.

For me this game was a huge let down from the DBZ series, Ive played all the Dragon Ball Z Tencaichi and love every one of them, so naturally I purchase this when it came out. But I think that the only improvement this game have comparing to Tencaichi 3 are the superior graphics but thats only normal since the Tencaichi 3 was release for the PS2, I dont know why but they toke away so many great things that the old versions have like flying around, fast moves, and ki charge, and the things they put in just make the game slow and stupid like those drama pieces. Overall this is not a terrible game but it seems like a step down in the saga.

BEST DBZ game yet...

This was the best DBZ game that has come out so far. It was a great story line and it is about time it came out on the 360. Very happy with the service from Amazon to get it to me and very happy with the game.

When I first played DBZ, I went through the tutorial and learned how to fully play the game. Then I went to the Z Chronicles (story mode) and began the first saga. At about level 3 or 4, the game froze as it was loading. I reset my xbox and it froze again on the same level but after it was done loading. Seeing as though my game may have been broken some how, I returned it to amazon and got a new one a few days later with no charge to me, even for shipping. Just as I thought this new disk was problem free, it froze numorous times in the Cell saga. When I took a look back at the menu, the only levels it was having trouble were the ones with Teen Gohan. After about a week with the new game, I noticed the edges of the disk were melted or somthing, because smooth plastic bits were weaved all along the outside. I was so fed up with the game freezing, I took a knife to the ends and scraped off the excess plastic, then used a CD repair kit that I found at Office Max to fill in any big scrarches I might have made. Now the game is working perfectly and hasn't givin me a proplem scince.

A Real Let Down For The DBZ series...

I played this game for XBox 360 and as a fan of other DBZ games and a MAJOR fan of the anime I can tell you this game lacks about 90% of the excitement of previous DBZ games. The only thing this game truly brings to the table that we havent seen before is improved graphics...THATS IT!!! There are too many cutscenes during the fights (this becomes annoying the more you play) that seem as if they are going to build up on what's already happening in the fight and once your excitement builds to see what happens it just goes back to the fight as if nothing happened.

Pros:
- Graphics
- Good voice-overs

Cons:
- The game ends at the end of the Cell saga - No characters who appear in the Buu Saga or after (including GT) appear in this game.
- Less transformations.
- Crappy power moves.
- Annoying cutscenes during the fight where the characters only talk and don't perform any power moves.
- The list goes on...

Basically nothing you loved about the older games like Budokai or Tenkaichi are featured in this game. As I mentioned this game lacks too much to even be a competitor with the other DBZ games. I would not recomment BUYING this game. But if you find yourself with absolutely nothing else in the world to do it would be good to rent.

not worth the money

i bought this game from walmart recently and it is a disgrace to the dbz franchise. It has this little crappy cut scenes that get interupt the fight like 7 times in one fight and not that many characters to choose from only 21... And you hardly have any ki attacks like for goku you got kamehameha and spirit bomb.. thats basically it. thois game sucks!!!!!!!!!!!

Transport this game back 3 years and it'd be worth buying.

As a long standing owner of Xboxes (the original and now a 360) I was pretty excited to see a DBZ game on an Xbox finally. I've played Budokai on the psp and some Tenkaichi on the PS2.

This game plays like a ported copy of the PSP game with better cutscenes. As was mentioned in some of the other reviews, the game stops at the end of the Cell Saga. I can't even think of any other DBZ games that do that. The transformations are a bare minimum, with Goku being the only character I found with more than one (Kaioken and SSJ1).

Long story short, Tenkaichi 2 on the PS2 was twice as good as this game and that's been out for years. The only way you should even consider buying this game is if you're a DBZ fan that's never played a DBZ video game, and you don't have access to a PS2 or 3. The -only- thing this game has over any other DBZ game, even the PSP versions, is decent voiceovers and cutscenes.

So i bought this game yesterday 6-11. Couldnt wait to get off work so i could go play. put the game in and actually sit through the tutorials. Lets say i was very impressed with gameplay and how fluent it worked.... remember i am only in the tutorial. After i finished tutorial i went to the saga. Now being someone that owned all budokai's i was expecting a decent length and substancial storyline. To say the least i was wrong. I finished the story that night. I mean what a rip i only got up to the cell saga? I came in thinking it was all the way through to buu at least and had all the characters i came to love in budokai tenkaichi 3, seeing as that only makes sense. What really bothers me is after each saga they fabricate a movie based on gameplay to wrapup what happened. I think this space and time could have been better put into including a buu saga. I mean most people just skip these low budget in game movies anyway, so why not give us something we want. When i buy a game i buy it for substance some good gameplay. Not half of a game with better graphics. Btw they include the first disk of season one ...... Season one came out over a year ago and most of us fans already bought it. Why give out something we already own. Even worse why give out part of a season where you will still have to go out and buy the whole thing if you dont own it. I mean seriousl what are we going to do with one out of six disks in a set. Just a way to get ppl to sink more money into this franchise. I strongly urge everyone to rent this game before buying so you can see exactly what its worth. This game to me is WAS worthless and i am ashamed that they would even sell this game in the market let alone sell it for such a steep price. Trust me you are better off getting something else.

Cons
1. Game is short only through the cell saga.
2. Game has cutscenes every 5 seconds during actual fighting which throw you offguard and confuse you.
3. Maps are incredibly small. you can successfully hit someone about 2-3 times before you hit a wall.
4. Gamplay has no learning curve its ez to play with no skill involved
5. YOU HAVE UNLIMITED SPECIALS with little to no delay before refire. tisk tisk
6. Limited characters maybe 13 or so.
7. Transformations make you weaker......why why would they do that.
8. Game is 100% completed in one night.
9. Absolutely no replay value at all. I sold the game first chance i got.
10. When you near the end you hope the game finishes soon because it is soo bady.

Pro
1. Graphics look pretty good.

I know you were expecting more pro's but honestly this game is terrible.

A New Look To An Old Franchise

First and foremost, I do like the Dragon Ball series. I enjoy the stories and shrug off the unrealistic fighting. This game is for the fans and fighting genre players.

First, let me talk about the Story Mode. There are only 3 story arcs: Vegeta, Frieza and Cell Sagas. This is where I have a problem. There is plenty of room for the Buu Saga. A casual gamer can beat the Story Mode on Normal (including the bonus modes) in about 3-4 hours (real time). The Buu Saga could have added another 2 hours.

The difficulty levels range from Very Easy, Easy and Normal. Once you complete the entire story, Hard and Very Hard will be unlocked. Lastly, the Z Mode will be unlocked. The difficulty levels of the AI is very balanced and once players find their comfort zone, they will really enjoy themselves. The only flaw I noticed was the last 5 or so levels in the Cell Saga. The difficulty jumped abruptly and made the final stages take a half dozen tries (at times) to beat. Sure, it's the last few levels and they should be more difficult, but not jump such as this.

The fighting system is fluid and unique. You have a light attack for speed/light damage and a heavy attack for slow/high damage. There is one block button which can block attacks as well as counter attacks. You zip behind your opponent and you can attack them. Be careful though! They can counter your counter. Lastly is you Ki button which can do special moves depending on which way you move the left thumbstick. For example, if you press B while moving the thumbstick towards your opponent, you can do a Kamehameha attack. If you press the stick up and press B (when your energy bar is full) you will unleash a special Ultimate Attack. This deals huge amounts of damage!

There is also a few other modes you can play including Survival, Time Attack, and Verses Mode (VS Mode is against the CPU or a Human). I tried Xbox Live around 10:30PM EST. I had no lag what-so-ever. This may change if you try to play it during peak hours of 3-9PM.

The graphics are amazing. I've always loved cell-shading and this is very crisp and colorful. The cut-scenes are a little underdone but the gameplay graphics are to die for.

All in all, the game is great. I have to give it 4 stars due to the short story mode. For the $60 price tag, it's just too short. I have to suggest renting it first and you truly like it, buy it. DBZ fans will be in their glory but for the fighting game junkies (like myself), it's something which is nice to play; not a must have in your library.
