I was a little skeptical this game would live up to the hype. Then some diminished reviews came around and I was already feeling a let down. Where could they go wrong? Was my thoughts. Well that didn't stop me from purchasing this game. After 30 minutes I was blown away. All skepticism was gone and I was in Gamer Heaven.
Let me start off from the beginning. Yes there is a plot twist and it's pretty bizarre. Just think that your watching a Michael Crichton movie and it will make sense. Playing in the Middle East several hundred years ago is a different idea. It's hard to say what you could expect with this concept.
So what makes this game amazing. Lets start off with the landscape. It's brilliant and beautiful...Really majestic. You don't understand the scope of this game until you start playing. The world is surrounded by several small villages and three large cities. The only way to travese this open terrain with a horse. Fortunately they are about as easy to find as a car in todays society.
What also sets this game apart is the ability to do what you want when you want. There is no clock on you and your not stuck going into a mission. Everything is open based. The character is amazingly fun to control you can scale tall buildings and make amazing leaps of faith. Climbing up a building that is several stories and then leaping to certain doom is breathtaking excitement. This is what games should be about.
Beyond that is a mission based game. Similiar to Grand Theft Auto in style. You can accept simple missions like pickpocketing and protecting citizens to the more main based assasin missions. You can battle soldiers if you want as you have many enemies but it's not really advised. Following the assasin missions can be complex and involve several steps that make the story very intresting. Obviously a lot of time was put into making this top notch.
For anyone who likes open based games with large environments then Assassins Creed is for you. From the majestic peaks to the clustered cities. This is trully a next gen experience. The storyline and incentive program will keep you playing for many hours. Definately a worthwhile gameplay experience. If you want something to keep you busy that doesn't involve guns go out and get Assasins Creed.

In a year filled with FPSs, Assassin's Creed is a refreshing and a most exciting gaming experience. You play an assassin named Altair, and you must assassinate 9 targets. This game takes place in the period of the 3rd crusade. The gameplay is very exciting and very rewarding once you get used to it. The animations for Altair are amazingly done. The graphics are mindblowing and the attention to detail is amazing. The game is a breath of fresh air and it is the best I have played this year.

Assassins Creed - Circa 2007
GOOD:
- The game has three huge (as well as very detailed) cities (Jerusalem, Acre, and Damascus) as well as the countryside (known simply as "Kingdom") that is equally as big as any of the cities. The games size rivals that of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (even if GTA:SA is bigger Assassins Creed is lot more detailed and intractable).
- A good story mixing elements of historical fiction and a Sci-Fi.
- Really impressive graphics and first-rate animations, that look just as good as games like Bioshock and Mass Effect.
- A great sound track that mixes music of the era during the clam points of the game and more modern type of music during the chase points of the game.
BAD:
- Collecting Flags (one hundred in every city and one hundred in the countryside) has no real point and only unlocks achievements.
- Most players and reviews complain about the relative nature of the Intel missions. Most of these missions are generally the same from city to city.
IF IT FITS YOUR TASTE:
- A Stealth game set in the year 1191 A.D. during the holy land crusades between King Richard and Sladine. You play as an Assassin of Hashshashin (who was a real life group of assassins of that time) charged with unsettling the powers that be in an attempt to bring peace to the holy land. To do this you must kill nine people who are using the crusades to control others and bring disorder to the land.
- The control is broken down into two areas of game play there is a passive action and an aggressive action to almost everything you can do in the game. For example you can lightly tap people to move out of your way while walking down crowed the street (hold the B button to do this) or shove people as you run down that same street (hold the R button and the B button to do this). This duality applies to all your actions and it becomes necessary because during the game you must be able to move freely between these two states (passive and aggressive) to run and then hide from people the out to get you as well as to sneak up on and kill your victims.
- Lot of what you will be doing is climbing and jumping from buildings this plays similar to the Prince of Persia games also made by ubisoft (the sands of time series). Although in this game the controls are more streamlined and user friendly as you can climb way more effectively as well as more realistically.
- Most of the game play itself is not so much assassinating people but gathering Intel on your targets, like ease dropping on conversations, pick pocketing people, and saving innocents from corrupt guards (who will repay you later by having others help in your endeavors) you can also scout out high areas to find hiding areas for later.
- Altair (the main character that you will play as) is an assassin and not a gladiator, while you can kill over 25 guards in a row (doing that unlocks an achievement) Altair is more like a spy or Ninja where his style is to stay hidden for a long as possible and not out right fight unless cornered. Now when cornered Altair can really destroy is enemies rather effetely with either a small combo (tap X once until you hear/see Altair's sword hit his opponents sword and quickly tap X again - this take lots of practice to get right) or counter move (tap X right before an opponent hit Altair with his sword), the over all effect is that only players who feel the most confident in their abilities will fight more then a few people at once. While most players should and will play more like a "true" assassin and not be seen as well as only fight when they must.
- After every major assassination you unlock new moves and weapons (like throwing knives and counter strike).
- While in the countryside (called "Kingdom") you get to ride horses, this aspect of game play is very reminiscent of the Nintendo 64 game The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time.
- The story can be very confusing to some not familiar with the politics of this time era. I recommend seeing the movie Kingdom of Heaven, this helps explain the story a bit more and give more back story to the game (note this game takes place a year or so after that movie).
GAME ITS MOST ASSOCATED TOO:
- Metal Gear Solid (PS1)
- Splinter Cell: Double Agent (360/PS3/PC)
- Prince of Persia (Xbox/PS2)
- Crackdown (360)
- HitMan: Blood Money (360)
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- There is a small secret about the games story that I will not give away, although I will say the 90% of your gameplay time will be spend on the facts I have already mentioned, and the other part of the game is only really story based with no real bearing on your gameplay.
- Altair is an Arabic word that means "The Flying One.
- The assassins that Altair is a part of were a real group of assassins during that era in fact the word assassins comes from the assassins group Hashshashin as it was a word used to describe there followers. All your main targets (nine in all) are based on real people who during that time period either died mysteriously or vanished.
- This game is also on the Sony Playstation 3 as well as the PC.
- In the limited collector's edition you will find an art book, a mini Altair figuring as well as a mini strategy guide, you will also find a mini comic about one of Altair's missions (drawn from the comic artist from Penny Arcade website) as well as a bonus DVD with the videos "The Making of Assassins Creed" documentary and it all comes in a tin case.
- There is talk from Ubisoft about sequels to this game set in other time eras.
A BLAST FROM THE PAST. GET IT!

Let me start by saying this is one of my all time favorite games. The game play is so smooth you will think your in movie or living this for real. A skilled player can pretty play through a level without detection, or you can kill every last human in sight. The story is so compelling that you will want to spend all day and night playing this game in tell the end. I'm not going to give away any secrets but the story has interesting out come. One can definitely see the similarities between modern day comics and the intriguing story and the character of Altair, for instance you are often around a civilian in need of assistants. But you still don't have to play the hero. I would recommend this game to my closest friends.
A good addition to the fall lineup...

My initial reaction to Assassin's Creed: it's definitely a mixed bag, but with far more good than bad. The game is incredible in and of itself: unique gameplay, a compelling story, and beautiful graphics are just a few of the most striking elements, all of which present themselved from the very beginning.
The unique gameplay is part of both the bad and the good. It's tough to get the hang of, because in some cases it seems rather counterintuitive. Because it's so different from any other game, there really is no foundation for learning the scheme, which makes for a rather sharp learning curve. More than once, I've found myself saying, "I want to do this...does that involve the head or the off hand?...and do I need to lock on first?" And by the time I've figured it all out, a Templar has run me through. But I'm getting the hang of it, and as I do, it gets more and more enjoyable. The game defintely requires patience, though; every time you get even remotely suspected, the game slows to a crawl until you've managed to become anonymous again. This is certainly no
hack and slash game, and that, too, is taking a little getting used to; even it's predecessors, the Prince of Persia games, allowed for a little button mashing. But this, too, I think I can get the hang of.
The game twists and turns from the very beginning. From the time I first heard of the game until the time I put it in my Xbox 360, whenever someone asked me what the game was about, I would always respond, "Well, I think..." I never really, truly understood what the game was about, and now, having played for just over 2 hours, not much has changed: I know what has happened and I know where I am now, but have no idea where I'm headed. And I like it that way. The story is complex enough to be engrossing, but not so bad that I'm confused (at least, not yet). And that's all I'll say about the story, both because I don't want to give away any spoilers and because I don't want to look like a fool when any guesses I may make are proven wrong!
And the graphics...in my humble opinion, there is little to complain about here. Watching Altair move through the cities and landscapes is a joy; watching him dive off a tower and seeing his shadow hurtle in tandem is bliss. The NPCs, the guards, and Altair himself are all beautifully rendered. In short, this is above and beyond how a next generation game should look. It raises the bar in many respects. While it may not be the absolute prettiest game ever (I think I may still give that title to Oblivion), I'm still more than pleased to watch it.
So in the end, was it worth the money? Yes. A hundred times yes. I'm enjoying it immensely, even if I'm still in the learning stages. I've heard great things about the ending, and I'm looking forward to it - although perhaps not as much as scaling every building I possibly can to find all the flags, which I'm sure will take me at least weeks. Definitely, do yourself a favor and check out the game ASAP.
Simply Awesome!

I just finished Assassin's Creed! The ending (and secret ending) definitely allude to a sequel and with the massive positive responses people are giving about AC, AC2 will definitely be made. I never got frustrated with anything (except when my 360 froze 2,000 times), and that's a first for any game. AC is positively the best game ever to be released. The gameplay was perfect, and easy, with the counter-attack system. Free-running and collecting flags were a great addition to the game. The story was extremely deep and wasn't lame like the same old Prey or WWII games' plots. Even with the game's story complete, there is still much to do, which really makes the difference betwwen buying the game and renting it. As for my rating, better than any game I've played before, a 10/10!

This game i have been waiting for it to come out since i first heard about it and was dissapointed that it was going to be released on the PS3 only. but then i heard the most beautiful words ever "assassains creed will also be available for the X-box 360" and i went nuts after that i went out a reserved it. its a really fun game i think not to hard but not easy either it gets harder as you go but not insainly difficult. it is a short game if you dont plan on looking for all the flags that are hidden or doing every mission you are going to beat it fast like 4-5 hours maby but if you are collecting everything the game is a lot longer. i recommend buying it cause it is a really good game i love it. if you like the middle ages and collecting stuff and doing missions then its a game for you, but i say everyone who plays games needs to at least rent it its insain the graphics are good the gameplay is awsome. its got a good story also iv been sucked into it. its sorta got a sci fi thing to it your in the middle ages 90% of the game but its through a machine that is taking the memories of your ancestor from your dna. in the game your dna has memories hidden in it or something but you use the machine to go back and live threw the missions your ancestor had to do its really cool i think and wouldve been cool if it was just in the mideval times erea but i enjoy it its deffinatly worth checking out and it also reminds me of a good movie except your playing it.

Ever since it was announced at E3 in 2006, I have wanted this game. It looked fantastic and I thought it was cool to take place in medieval times.
Now that the game is out and in my possession...
I love making the "Leap of Faith". it takes my breath away every time I perform one and land in the hay. It's almost like a roller coaster ride.
I also like how the gameplay can be varied. You can maintain a low profile for most of the game. Or you can go all out and make yourself be seen when carrying out your missions. I tend to move in on a group slow, and not leave until I either dispatch all the guards or end up dying while trying. Even on a horse the gameplay varies.
I definitely loved the twist in the game. Definitely unexpected, but it does shed more light on the back story. Sorry, no spoilers here regarding the twist.
Graphically, it's awesome. Vivid, bright whites and light blues during the cut scenes. The look of 12th century Israel looks right out of the history books. Amazing detail in the characters.
The music is fantastic as well. Fits the period and location.
Definitely a Game of the Year candidate.
Finally, something new

In a year filed with FPS games, Assassin's Creed is something truly remarkable in the amount of new gameplay mechanics and choices it brings to the table.
***Possible Spoilers***First off, your character is Altair, a member of the Assassins Order led by Al Mualim. However, his first mission goes wrong and Altair is stripped of his rank. Given a second chance by Al Mualim, he then has to eliminate nine men in the area to be restored his rank. These are nine men throughout the cities of Acre, Damascus and Jerusalem (all re-created VERY accurately to represent their history) who have been using the Crusades to make personal profit. However, all is not it seems and an avid player will love the plot turns and twists that occur throughout this visual masterpiece.
In terms of gameplay, AC yet again raises the bar on innovation. Every action you do in the game is deemed high profile and low profile, giving the player a multitude of options to kill their target. Is he a truly evil man? Then make it high profile so the entire city can see his misfortune, but beware of the amount of guards that will chase you. Hungering for stealth? Then make a lowprofile assassination with your hidden blade and blend into the crowd as if nothing happened. Combat in this game is very fluid as well, and special kills will earn you gory animations of Altair dispatching his enemies.
In conclusion, this game is a must have for any Xbox 360 or PS3 owner, and it is a refreshing change from standard games like FPS. It's only downfalls are repetitiveness and lack of replay value, as your missions to gain information on each target are essentially the same from mission to mission, and others complain about not having anything to do when the final assassination has been made. To remedy this, you can look for the 400 flags hidden throughout the land for Xbox 360 Achievements, or hunt down the 60 Templars who will give you a run for your money in fighting as well! Completing the latter task will earn you Gamerscore as well on the Xbox, or you can just roam the land on horseback and marvel at this masterpiece Ubisoft has created.
