this game is extremely short i beat it in two days. it is also repedative. it is very easy even on hard it is easy. the game does have good graphics and it does have a good story but it isn't very fun. I definately reccomend you buy this game. I would have given it a better score if I didn't pay 50$ for it.
Rent this game before you buy it

I was rather disappointed with this game. Especially after reading all the hype about it. And it being done by Bioware. It did not meet up to my standards of RPG,s..Not near enough options for your player from the get go. Graphics aren't near as good as I heard they were. When your flying around in the aircraft in this game, it looks like the old astroids game. It was a real let down. Especially because I bought it when it first came out. 50 bucks wasted. I bought the special addition of this game as well. I would hate to see the normal version.......
What a disapointment

This game was the bigest disapointment of the year. Every one kept sayin how great it was and all this hype about the best rpg of the year. Well you were all wrong this game is garbage. I hated it and it was soo dam boring i never even wanted to keep playing. But the worst part was that i actualy paied 50$ for it when its worth about 15$.I will even admit the story was prety good and it had a good idea but the story didnt stick together and the good and evil part was stupid. As much as i wanted to keep going evil its like it wouldnt let me even if i helped 1 person for money it still brought my meter up to the good side, it just didnt go good with the game. And the combat was horible it was the worst fighting ever it was like fighting on a ps1 game it was clunky and cheezy, and it seemed like i just kept doin the same moves over and over. It did sound cool that you could turn into a demon but that was even lame when u you get it, like who the hell wants to turn into a big ass ugly frog? The game is just straight up boring and every convo you have its like they make you think about every single answer you give even for the stupid convos , that just gets boring , Well over all it had a good story but it wasnt enough to save the game cuz this game was lame and boring and too repetitive. I might have liked it more if so many people didnt hype it up so much and i didnt pay 50$ for the dam game. My advice if you didnt play it , rent it or wait till it gets cheaper to get it. But if i was you id just stay the hell away from this boring game

This game has been highly overated, and I really do not understand why.
Obviously from the makers of Knights of the Old Republic, which were great games, comes this boring and highly uncontrollable game. It starts slow and is so slow moving the entire game through. There are no new aspects not seen in RPGs before it, and nothing is original. It combines the fighting style of Tenchu, with the RPG style of KOTR without lightsabers. You spend most of the game choosing from a variety of boring dialogues, which make you good or evil, having no effect on the game whatsoever. The fighting is so boring, I would rather choose dialogue than use the same 3-hit combos continuously. WHen you upgrade fighting styles, it only makes fights worse, because every enemy dies after one hit. It's like playing with cheats, while trying to have a challenge. Buy KOTR or Final Fantasy if you like RPG. Stay away from this boring, and so highly overated game. Most games that go from 50 to 30 dollars within so little time, obviously have problems.
Okay game

I was really excited when my older brother brought it over, but it's JUST TO DIFFICULT!!!!! I mean I can beat any video game in a week, but I couldn't get past the frickin' bandit with the staff!!!!! Maybe I used the wrong guy (strength) but it wasn't as great as it had looked. I would suggest renting it first to see if you can beat it. (my brother also said that the story would never end, so that might be good, or it might be bad)
Pretty Good

Not a bad game at all. To repeat what others have said the story is fairly boring at the beginning but it picks up somewhat. All the different styles are neat but you really don't get a chance to use more than two or three of them, unless you want a bunch of mediocre styles.
It is fairly easy, I died once in the entire game before reaching the end game boss where it took me three tries to win. It's not as easy as Fable though.
I had a good time playing it but I have no desire to play it again. Buy it used.

I rented this game 2 days ago, and was trying to play, but I couldn't because only thing you do here is listning to conversations. It is same like watching a movie, but sometimes you can play for 10 seconds.Be carefull; if you die you have to wait another 10 minutes to play it again.Plus to many downloads!
Do not buy this game it dosn't worth your many.
Hampered by load times

I am a very patient gamer, preferring RPGs and tactical games with thought and storyline, but the load times for this game were troublesome enough to completely disrupt the flow of the game completely for me. Though the load times are "short", less than 30 seconds each, they are so frequent (near many combat starts) that within the first hour and a half of the game, I was bent over in frustration. It got a bit better as I went along, but I had to call it quits after 2 hours since I felt like I was wasting mytime. In comparison, a game such as Half Life 2 on Xbox which also has regular loading times of 10-20secs each are well-placed so that they do not interfere with the flow of the game significantly.
I'm surprised more people have not commented on the poor loading times of this game - despite the high reviews of this game, it went to discount unusually quickly which makes me suspect a general problem in the loading times.
On the brighter side, the graphics, storyline, and gameplay did seem to be 1st rate (when I wasn't just waiting for the loading..) and does live up to the high expectations.
If you have to try it, I would recommend a rental first to see if you can stomach the pace of the load times.

This game had everything. There is much to cover, but I will do what I can.
First of all, a fantastic story with its share of plot twists and surprises you can expect from BioWare. Memorable characters with uses so varied and unique that it really made them matter. Quality voice acting, on par with KOTOR. Gorgeous graphics and larger locations (hence less loading points) than KOTOR had. The best of all was the combat system. It is so in depth and just so fun, yet utterly accessable. There is basically a five minute learning curve. Some games can take hours or days to figure out. Jade Empire gets you quickly immersed into its easy system and doesn't compromise anything while doing it.
The game has definite replay value as well. There are four different character types (balanced, fast, strong, magic) each with extremely different and satisfying combat styles. The character models themselves are nothing short of spectacular. Oh, and not to mention that the game has three different endings.
The most satisfying aspect of all is the type of game and the way it plays out. It is classified as a Roleplaying game, but is far from your typical RPG. The roleplaying aspect is all in the dialogue. Unlike most, there are only three different stats you will maintain (body, spirit, and mind). They work well, and will make a very unique character depending on how you choose to level up. You will also learn many different styles of fighting as opposed to having a ton of inventory. You will find several items that you do not really carry or equip, but immediately become bound to you and enhance your stats. You wear no equipment during the course of the game. The only thing you will "wear" is an amulet which you can place three gems of your choice in. There are multitudes of these throughout your travels.
That is, in my opinion, the best part of the game. It's nice to be able to focus on the combat and environment much more than sorting through items you pick up. There are a few places you can buy a new weapon, but it will be rare. I ended the game using the first weapon I got not even 10 minutes into the game. In KOTOR you could accumulate something like 2,000 items at any given time. In Jade Empire, if you want to count gems as items, since they are, once again, the only thing you "wear", you may have something like 10-15 at any given time. You also have a party member who is a mobile merchant who will buy excess gems off you at any point in the game. You will likely never be carrying more than 5 of these at once. That is a hell of a relief from your typical RPG.
And so, what is Jade Empire? If I had to plunk it in some genre... I would call it an action/adventure/RPG. It soaks up all the good from other games, and sheds all the lousy. To anyone with an Xbox, this is one of the best games you'll ever play. It's the most fun I've ever had with a video game in a long time. I can only see good things for BioWare in the future, what with the coming of Neverwinter Nights 2 and Dragon Age in the next year or two.
Jade Empire is already a heavy contender for 2005 Game of the Year. Don't miss it!
