best handheld fighter of all time

this is by far the best fighter of all time on a handheld system ever! the first great thing about darkstakers is the charaters who looks like universal monster rejects which is cool espically the dracula looking. the grahpics are the best even though there 2-D grapichs which mit lose some interests in peopole but the fighting and control mit draw people in.if you say that this is the crappest game everthats like saying that street fighter 2 is the dummest fighting game from 1991.this game is better than any mortal kombat, tekken, king of fighters, streetfighter portbal handheld system EVER and a must pick up for the PSP !

Amazing fighting game for a handheld

When I first put this in my PSP, I was amazed by the incredible colors and animations of the characters. The sound is great too along with fluid controls that ultimately make for a must have for fighting game fans. I agree with most people out there that yes, sometimes the moves do seem a little hard to pull off but that hasn't really hindered me from enjoying this game overall. Anyways, if you like fighters and own a PSP then this really is a must have that will keep you entertained for quite a while.

Really a Chronicle

Better than SFII, Darkstalkers is a classic arcade and in the PSP system... just have to say: Pocket-size Morrigan

This is my favorite game for the PSP

This is my favorite game for the PSP. Along with Wipeout Pure and Twisted Metal. This is a very addictive game. The online isnt that great because no one's ever on. If you want a good online game go with Twisted Metal. If you want a web browser!!! go with Wipeout Pure. The fighting in this game is very good and its a great all around game.

awsome game!

this is the first game ive gotten for the psp because i only got my psp a week ago and I'd have to say for a 2d fighter its pretty cool the combos are hardcore the super moves are sweet and the game play is..desent. Its not hard to figure out the controls once your used to them, use training mode first you'll see what I mean. And beating the game is very easy exept the last boss, he's a little tougher. The illistrations you unlock throuh tower mode are also a big bonus. I havent unlocked any movies though, but hey, I've only played the game for 4 hours so it'll take some time. If you liked dark stalkers for playstation and have a psp get this game it will be worth it.

The best 2D fighter on a handheld, ever.

Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower for the PSP a collection of all the previously released Darkstalkers games, mixed together to form the ultimate package for anyone who is a fan of the series. All the characters from all the games are now playable as well as all the different fighting modes. Say you want to use a Darkstalkers character from the third game and one from the first but with the setup from the second, it's now possible. The Chaos Tower mode is a branching path style tournament that goes up 100 stories. And to make sure things don't get boring, the game will sometimes give you a handicap. (ie, no punches, no kicks, no blocking, ect.) And for going through all of that, you're awarded Darkstalkers character art. Which is quite cool. The only real problem with the game really isn't even the games fault. The PSP D-pad isn't the best D-pad ever made for fighing games. But you can eventually get the hang of it and it's managable. (and there is an "easy" control mode for those not into memorizing all the differnt combos for a fighting game.) So needless to say, if you woant a good 2D fighter for your PSP or even a good 2D fighter that you're able to take with you everywhere, it doesn't get any better than this. NnyCW for Capcom City

Fun Game. Not Perfect, But Still A Lot Of Fun.

I've been a fan of Capcom 2-D fighters since I can remember. That being said, Darkstalkers was probably the best title to pick for a launch game. They get to tweak the system for any future 2-D releases (could a certain fighter with the initials S.F. be in the works? We can only hope), plus we get to play around and get a taste of what the PSP is capable of. True, the controls could be a little tighter, but they work just fine, especially for a handheld. Even better, link up with a friend and take turns beating the $^!& out of eachother (with no noticeable slowdown! It makes an hour on the life cycle go by so much faster). Are there better launch titles? Yes. Is this a must buy? Only if you are a fan of 2-D fighters, or want to link up with a buddy for instant gratification. Like all fighting games, the replay value comes when playing against other players.

A fun, fantastic looking fighter - only very slightly flawed.

Back in the early 1990s after Street Fighter II became a mega-hit, Capcom decided to use the basic SF II control layout and gamestyle to create other fighting games. The original Darkstalkers game was one of the spinoff titles, taking the familiar style and controls from SF II but replacing the characters and levels with vampires, goblins, demons and all kinds of far-out locals. Years later, after the franchise had been expanded through three sequels, Capcom decided to put togethor a sort of "best of" version of the game, combining the best elements of and all the characters from the four games that had already been released. The result was "Darkstalkers Chronicles" for the Dreamcast; unfortunately the game was never offically released in the U.S., until now. Darkstalkers Chronicles: The Chaos Tower is essentially a PSP version of the Dreamcast game, although the title has been tweaked slightly to keep the interest of gamers who were already familiar with the franchise. This title has beautiful graphics and more or less flawless gameplay. YES, the controls make it a bit difficult to pull-off special moves, but the core controls are just just fine, in fact they work just as well as they did on any home console. If you like fighting games, don't let the problem with the special moves deter you, this is a very worthwhile title for the PSP, especially at $25.

Good day there. I have to say when I first played this game on my old PSP which was the original when it first came out, I was frustrated with the d-pad to perform the moves because most of the time, it wouldn't recognize the input at times. Now with my PSP-Slim I have to say this game is great now because the d-pad is better able to recognize the special moves and now I don't have to pray on the moves being performed.
The animation is nice and I have to say the soundtrack is awesome, I love the japanese voice-overs as well, giving the characters some nice personality. Overall, great game :)

Good for a 2d fighter but not that good

I played a very similar game on the Dreamcast and it was virtually unchanged. I thought the worst part is that the game isn't even reformatted for the PSP's widescreen format, it is simply stretched from the original 4/3 format which is UNCCACCEPTABLE for a $40 game. Though a 2d fighter can be fun but alot of the ejoyment comes from playing with friends and since your chances of running into someone with the game are slim its a no go for me and i resold it.
