I bought this game this week and the first time I picked it up I played for over 3 hours,it is sooooo addicting.
It's a lil repetative but it progresses so fast that it becomes so challenging.I had the PC version and loved it so I figured It would be great to have something portable.
It has 250 levels and I stopped at 16, not cuz I was bored, just because I would have played all night.
You bake I think 6 different shapes of cake with about 6+kinds of frosting, you erve the customers and get tips with a goal you have to reach as in money to move on to the next level.
Some of the cakes become complicated as you nay have a heart cake with red frosting and then you have to gake a round cake with choclate frosting to earn your tips.
There are so may upgrades from frosters, cake toppers,to better ovens,a TV to entertain the customers,a cookie oven(I think),but you really have to decide if you want to buy a cake topper or a better oven which has 4 stles going up yo "The Fourth Element",this makes the game or breaks the game depending on what you buy and how you set up your bakery makes a great dealo in your outcome.
Ther are 2 modes 1 is helping Uncle Jack bake in his "Sea World" type environment to helping this lady whos in the City.Either way,you get to do both worlds.
I really want to get Cakemania 1 but I'm wondering if it even comes slose to this one,That being said I can't wait to see a cakemania 3 come out or even a game like Diner Dash Flo on The Go game.Nopefullt one comes out soon.

A huge improvement over the original!

I'm 31 and am in love with my Nintendo DS. I tried out the original Cake Mania on loan from the library and really liked it with a few notable issues, mainly the screen shift when moving about the kitchen.

On a whim I ordered Cake Mania 2 and dove into once it arrived. Not only have they fixed the screen shift problem -- they made this game so much better!

Now there are more levels to play and more TV channels to flip through. I like that it's a little more sophisticated yet stuck with the basic formula: bake, frost, top, serve, get paid.

My only complaint so far is the Endless Game mode. The step-up options/awards are only available every 3 rounds, which is a long time to have to poke around before you can buy faster shoes or a better froster.

All in all, I find this game challenging but also a lot of fun. The character's dialog can get a little boring, but at least you can skip past it.

If you like Diner Dash (as I do), try Cake Mania 2.

This was the biggest disappointment of a game I've ever played. I loved Cake Mania 1 and could not wait for Cake Mania 2 to come out. I finished the game in less than one day. The game was way to easy and absolutely no fun. I didn't even have to upgrade any equipment or buy any additional toppings to meet the monthly goal. I did buy the best oven and frosting machine along with the fast shoes simple because I got tired of the cooking time. I wish I could get my money back on this game.

Great fun...even better than the 1st one!

I have the first Cake Mania and I was addicted to that one. So when I saw that they had Cake Mania 2, I immediately bought it! I think this one is just as good, if not better than the first one! This time you get to choose Jill's destiny. As you complete each level the game gives you a choice of where you want to go next. I couldn't put this game down, the only down side was that I played it so much I beat it in 1 week! I really hope they come out with a Cake Mania 3, until then I will keep playing the 1st & 2nd. And enjoying every minute of it! Bake on...

Such a letdown

I so wanted to love this game, I have waited for it for months. I loved the original CM, when I read previews of this one I had such high hopes. I got the game, played it, defeated it in two days, never once losing a round. I don't say that to toot my own horn but to say that this game is just way too easy. There is none of the challenge of the original game and it is dreadfully slow. The first "year" of the game is like the first month of the old game times twelve. It takes a really, really long time to pick up. You would think that with all of the new characters that there would be extra challenge in determining what makes everybody tick and keeping everyone happy, not so -- this group of characters are ridiculously patient. In the fourth year you should get a t.v., but they don't even care what channel it's on, and cupcakes were never needed. The added elements of different cake shapes, frostings, and toppers add little to the interest of the game. All of that would be forgivable if the "endless game" wasn't so badly designed -- you can't save your progress!?!? That means going back to ultra-slow round 1 every time you want to play! So once you've beaten the game, there is really no point to the game at all.

On the technical side, I think that the alignment of the stylus is bad. You have to be really specific about where you touch the toppers, I found that the bottom to bottom-left of the topper is the place to touch otherwise you either won't activate the topper or it will apply the topper from the opposite side of the decorating table.

The original is definitely better, if you haven't got that one yet -- get it and skip this one. If you just have to have the sequel, try finding it used.

On the plus side, if you have a little kid, all of my complaints are probably bonuses as little ones will probably find sufficient challenge with little chance of disappointment -- only boredom.

So simple, so fun!

Isn't it amazing how the simplest games are the best? But in this game, the simplicity can be deceiving, as there is a *lot* of strategy involved from level to level when you decide what equipment to upgrade (or wait until after the next round and save up for something better...) The sequential thinking involved is enthralling, and a great way to enjoy downtime. I'm 36, but my 7 year old is going to enjoy this, too (if she can ever get me to stop playing it for a while!).
