don't buy unless you would die for DBZ

This game was horrible! There was no story line and the graphics sucked! The unlockables weren't that good and by the time you mash the buttons to do a special attack, the opponent is dead! There wasn't any differences between the characters besides the looks. They all had almost the exact same attacks. There's no storyline at all! Playing this stupid game, made my buttons on my GBA go soft!

Whoever designed this thing needs to be slapped.

I saw the advertisment for this game and figured I'd try it out. I spent 30 bucks on this thing and was hoping it would actually be worthwhile.....

Graphics: 8- The graphics are pretty good for 32-bit GBA. Energy blasts are the highlight of the Graphics department, when Goku unleashes a huge Spirit Bomb it looks pretty sweet. Yep. It's probably the best thing about the game, not that that's saying much...

Sound: 6- Most of the Sound is annoying, but two or three songs are pretty good. There are a couple power-chord driven rock beats on the game, and since I like hard rock, I liked that background music somewhat, but the rest I didnt care for.

Gameplay: 5- Ehh, who cares. The gameplay wasn't very good. You had about 3 different Specials maximum. It wasn't like Hyper Dimension where each character had dozens of moves. Each character has their signature move along with a really big one. Goku's signature move is Kamehameha, of course, and his ultimate move is Spirit Bomb, which includes a cut scene. The worst part about the gameplay is that (A) You can be extremely cheap by just pressing the Kick button and Forward continuously until the opponent dies, and (B) The limited number of moves you can perform.

In addition to those minor problems, the game isn't very long. There are about 8 characters to unlock, including Broly. That, and after each battle with the GBA you earn points which you can use to unlock Bios, pics from the show and other stuff that no one actually cares about.

I successfully completed the game within a couple hours. And did I mention the Difficulty Levels dont actually DO anything? Easy is just as difficult as Hard. In fact, sometimes Hard is easier than Easy. What happens on the Hard difficulty level is that sometimes the opponent will just stand there and let you beat them to death until when they're almost dead, and THEN they'll start fighting back. It was a VERY irritating aspect of the game.

Final Score: 6- It was okay, it kept my attention for a while......At least until I had mastered every facet of the game, which didnt take long. One of the main problems was how limiting the game was. You could only perform a couple Specials and the game was pretty short overall. I'd say it would be worth Renting, beating the crap out of it, then never playing it again.

Piss-poor gameplay

With the exception of Budokai, Dragon Ball Z games often fare poorly. DBZ: Taiketsu, sadly, joins their dismal ranks. If nothing else, Taiketsu succeeds somewhat in capturing the simple visual charm of the show. The large characters look clear and visible on the tiny GBA screen, but overall they can't compete with the superior graphics of GBA champions MK:DA and Street Fighter, and Taiketsu's herky-jerky animation is also particularly distracting. To save battery juice, go ahead and mute the muffled background music and scratchy sound effects-since the game lacks character voices, you won't miss anything important. Taiketsu's button-mashing gameplay is shallow and simplistic, even for a kid's fighting title. There are 15 characters total, including favorites from both the series (like Cell and Goku) and the movies (including the popular Brolly). Aside from the occasional super-move, each character boasts only a meager handful of attacks and combos. Worse, there's very little difference between the various fighters. Players can also occasionally take to the skies during combat, but that gimmick burns out quickly. On the plus side, the game thoughtfully includes several play modes (like Tournament and Endurance) to help extend the replay value; unfortunately, none of the game types are interesting or particularly enjoyable. Another nice touch is the Soul Calibur-esque secret system, which allows players to earn Z Points to unlock bonus modes, settings, and pictures. Overall, unless you're an eight-year-old DBZ fanatic, you'll find that this Saiyan is hardly super.

Very, very happy

If you look up screens youll agree with me that this is atleast in the top 10 graphics wise. And after watching previews of it i have to say this has gameplay in the top 5. Until it comes out you should get t.l.o.g. 2 And one last thing with the over 35 fields and i think 15 playable characters (including Broly and Goku ss3!!!!) i think this game will be the best game for GBA of 2003. Oh i just remembered you can finally fight in the air. no more strictly ground fights.

this is the gamboy advance game there is .

WORST DBZ GAME EVER!!!

This is by far the worst DBZ game I have ever played! I own all the DBZ GBA games including the newer fighting game "Super Sonic Warriors". I got Taiketsu without reading any reviews. I cant believe I was soooo naive to buy this game! I was so dissipointed by the small limit of moves to do, the corny looking graphics, and its really hard to do combo moves! I was so upset that I wasted $25 on it that I pretended I liked so I felt like I got my moneys worth. Dont buy this game if you want to play a good DBZ GBA game then get Super Sonic Warriors which is a trillion times better!
