Read above. The first guy had to ruin it. "I IMMEDIATELY RETURNED THIS GAME!!" said the fool. Then how can you give a fair review of it?

Anyway, as someone like myself who has played almost any RPG in existance, and have not been fond of the lackluster games released on the Playstation for the past few years, I must go back and say Breath of Fire is one of my top 5 RPG's of all time. Right next to the likes of Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 3, Earthbound and Illusion of Gaia. The game has beautiful music, basic but nice graphics, a solid story, tons of towns and enemies, and just all around fun. Breath of Fire 1 completely annhilates Breath of Fire 3 and 4, so even if you did not like those, don't worry. From someone who loves the classic SNES RPGs, take my word for it: GET THIS GAME!

A great game

Breath of Fire is just like Final fantasy games for Super NES in other words it's the samwe thing as the breath of fire for Super Nintendo there is not much more to say except that i think there may be some new features but i still recommend for you to buy Golden Sun in october instead. there are 9 characters in all and they each got special skill in battle mode and you can buy weapons for them and items to use. its got an OKay story (not the best) and the Grapics are ok for the the Gameboy Advance. Happy Gaming

A Good Purchase

Firstly, CAPCOM knows how to make Role Playing Games (RPG)
A good cast of characters, a good storyline, and challenging gameplay.
Not only does your main character,Ryu, grow in strength as you travel alongside him, but he meets other characters whom you can have join you, and enjoy each of their unique skills:
Ryu can fish, and the fish he catches can be used to heal, cure and others.
Bo can hunt, catching Deer or Wild boars,
Ox can knock down walls and smash coconuts from trees.
Twists in the storyline have you searching for a volcano under the sea, entering someone's dreams to rescue them, and searching for cracks in the wall...to find a master thief...
The replay value is astounding, and even though I cleared the game, I was still left longing for more.
The graphics are awesome, the sound is awesome, and a new challenge is that you can only have four characters in the frontlines of your party at a time...
And parents, this game is safe for kids...cartoon graphics and no realistic violence make this a winner, although the ability to read is required.
Because of games like this, I always buy capcom RPGs

Finally, a solid RPG game for a handheld

I've been a long time gamer, and I'm quite finicky about what i spend my money on. I read meticuluos reviews and talk to alot of friends before plunking down 50 or more dollars on a game. I do have to say, that Breath of Fire will be an excellant purchase if you enjoy old school role playing games. If you've enjoyed any of the SNES RPG's then you will adore this game. I used to have this for SNES, and always wished it was portable! Even if it is identicle to the SNES version, i plan to pick it up. It's a challenging and very fun RPG!

great game

First off, the cover is misleading. Looking at it, one would get the impression that this was a game for kids. While it is suitable for kids, people of any age can enjoy this game. This game is truly a bizarre fantasy. It seems to be set in a midevil world, yet there are futuristic themes in it as well. Dragons rule the world, and the Dark Dragon clan wishes to unlock the secret of Tyr, the goddess of Destruction. You play Ryu, a Light Dragon Warrior in your quest to destroy Zog, the evil emperor plotting to conquer the world. That is your quest. As I have said, this game is takes place in a technological society, yet it is also midevil like as well. The soundtrack is probably the best soundtrack ever, in any video game. Beautiful music. As for the graphics, well today their outdated, obviously. I'd love to see this game remade on the PS3.

BOF is one of the best games I have ever played, I have spent countless hours on puzzles and finding valuable items. If you are looking for a fun, long game, I would recommend this game.

My first recollection of Breath of fire came with Breath of Fire 2 for the SNES. While I admit, it was an awesome game in its own right. I was anxious to round up the original for it. But, alas, I wasn't able to. Now, with the Gameboy Advance, I finally get the chance to check out the Classic. So, what can I tell you about Breath of Fire for the Gameboy Advance....Well, it's been an absolute blast to play. I hadn't been able to put it down since I got it for Christmas. I've even brought it to work with me a time or two to play. Graphically, it's very colorful and animated. There's alot of exploration, and things to do in the game. Hundreds of spells to do battle with and battles galore. You can even exchange items with your GBA link cable. For a classic RPG, I highly recommend it to all.
Given it's not Final Fantasy but it's just as good. If not better in some respects. It's definately worth the price of admission.
Do yourself a favor and check it out.

Right up there with Final Fantasy

Im a big rpg player and out of all the games ive played, BOF is one of my top favotites. It has a solid story line with Ryu who is out to stop the dark drangons whom threaten to take over the world with the power of the goddes Tyr and find his sister who was captured by the dark dragon clan. Along the way Ryu meets up with seven companions who in turn are out to stop the dark drangons who have wronged them, Nina, Bo, Carn, Gobi, Ox, Blue, and Mogue. Each character posses their own unque abilities as which is common in all rpgs and are essential to the game. What is unique is that Ryu can transform himself into the dragon and you must searc the continents to find his other dragon forms and eventually transform into the ultimate dragon, Angi (not sure of the spelling).

For those of you who wish to obtain all of Ryu's dragon forms, all you have to do is aquire the Rod 5 which is in a chest under Tunland and then fish in all the wells to obtain the dragon armors needed to be allowed in the dragon shrines. In one such well you will obtain a slab inscribing how to obtain the ultimate dragon power. Once you have all the other powers (not angi) you go to the water canve and go all the way to where you got the ring and decend the steps into the water to go underwater to a small cave....that is where angi lies.

The most diffucult part of this game for me was getting thru the dream worlds where things get twisted and walls disappear...you'll know what i mean once you play...it is very frustrating...but the game is a lot of fun, and i would recommend it to anyone who needs to find a good rpg to play.

(...)ive played this game thru five times and know it inside and out. Play it, im sure you'll love it.

Confusing Yet Fun...
