New Hot Shots just as good as it was when I first played

I have been playing Hot Shots Golf since the first time it came out on Playstation and it never loses its fun. This new game, first version for the PS3, is just as fun as the orignal, plus with updated graphics. The controls are tight, the sounds are great, I have not been able to stop playing until my girlfriend wrestled the controller away from me.

Another good installment in the Hot Shot golf series

After playing all the Hot Shot Golf games on the Playstation 2 and being very pleased with all of them, I am again impressed with the new Out of Bounds version for the Playstation 3. Beginning with a look at graphics, I don't know if I would label them true 'next generation' in appearance but they are very nice to look at. Whether it is reflections off of water or vegetation or clothes on the players and caddies, it is well done in my opinion. As far as seamless game play, you're going to get that here. There is no lag or stutter in any animations and the load times are virtually non-existent in almost every case. Movement from hole to hole is quick and a round of golf can be too. I can play a round of 9 holes in about 12 to 15 minutes (I'm still on the 9 hole challenges at this point in the game).

When it comes to the controls used in playing the game, they are easy to learn and not hard to master, with one exception. This new version introduces a new type of advanced shot method where you watch the backswing of your player and look for flashing lights at certain points to gauge how hard to swing. Upon making your downswing, a circular meter below the golfer has a ring around it that collapses toward a ball icon and when the circle shrinks to encompass the ball, you hit the X button on the controller at just the right time to get a perfect hit. It sounds complicated but it isn't really. It is all a matter of timing and a little patience required. I personally still use the traditional shot method as seen in previous Hot Shot games which is the power bar at the bottom which gives you more precision in setting power and showing just where to hit a solid impact on the ball. I've found the advanced shot type a bit awkward personally and even though the manual says that the new method offers better range and impact zone, I haven't noticed any significant differences between the two shot methods and this is after playing many rounds with many different types of clubs using both shot types.

So far I've only played on two courses in the challenge mode (you open up new courses after beating a computer opponent in each challenge session) and what I've seen so far is good stuff. There is options to play regular games (stroke, match play, etc.) aside from the challenges and you can do practice rounds also where you can set course conditions to help you make shots in certain types of situations. There are 5 main characters that you can choose to start out with and each one has their own individual strengths, animations, and funny ways of talking. There is also several different caddies that add a good dose of humor now and again during the rounds.

I haven't played online yet and I don't know If I will do that but the instruction manual is very detailed on how to do this and the manual is excellent regarding all other facets of the game also. Something to look forward to, according to the game makers, is the fact that later on you can go online to download new content for the game including new courses, new gear, and other goodies. If you're a past fan of Hot Shots Golf, I would definitely recommend picking up Out of Bounds because it's a great game in my opinion and should bring many hours of fun to those that like golf.

Impressed this first time HSG player

This is the first Hot Shots Golf title I've played and I can see why it's a franchise that's been around awhile. It's just plain fun to play. I've purchased other golf titles in the past, but became bored quick. The graphics in Out of Bounds are excellent, environments look incredible, and the characters are the highlight. The only drawback I can think of is that it installs about 3.5 GB of data on the hard drive, but I'm not too concerned about it. The standard controls are easy to learn. The "new" advanced hitting controls took me about 18 holes to become proficient. Courses, caddies, gear and other players are all unlocked by playing 9-hole challenges. Challenges seem easy at first, but I think they're getting more difficult. What really stands out in this game are the shot graphic enhancements, animations, and especially the characters each with their own hilarious personalities. I'm also looking forward to playing online once I better my game.

This is a great golf game. I've messed around with a few golf titles in the past, and found myself getting bored with them rather quickly. But Hot Shots golf seems to put 'fun' at the top of it's priorities.

At first, I thought I might be put off by the cartoonish style graphics, but the gameplay is just so good that I really don't care anymore.
It's the coordination, timing, and calculating that gives this game such great replay value.

If your tired of all the heavy handed FPS in the gaming world, then give yourself a break and go play Hot Shots golf. You'll have fun!!!

Highly addictive

There's not much that I can say that hasn't all ready been said by other reviewers. This game is beautiful, and a lot of fun. You're given two starting characters with a caddy to choose from. The environments are simply breath taking.

But that's not the selling point of this game. No, the online play is the best feature and while it may not have voice chat it is still highly enjoyable! You're able to customize your own little character that looks somewhat similar to a Mii from Nintendo's Wii. As you win tournaments against other players you receive new items to customize your character with.

I highly recommend this for any fan of casual golf games, that likes to play with other people.

Delaystation 3 owners have put up with a lot. Fortunately Sony delivers big time with this installment of Hot Shots Golf. The courses are beautiful (six of them) and increase in challenge nicely. An element that really comes into play is peaks and valleys on the harder courses, requiring extra decision making to account for a drop or rise from your current lie to the green. It really adds depth but doesn't make the game too complicated. Wildlife abounds on all courses and it's funny to see animals scatter as the ball comes flying in. I found special shots easier to make in general (spin shots). You'll want to shut off the gallery noise which gets repetitive and annoying almost immediately, but the music is fiittingly soothing. Hopefully the Playstation Store will offer more courses to buy since that's the only gripe I could make. The new characters are very entertaining and enjoyable to use, as are most of the caddys. This is lots of fun, easy to pick up and tough to master. Highly recommended.

Hot Shots golf games has always been a fun casual take on the game. With cartoonish Anime inspired looks, but don't be put off by all of this the game is actually quite close to what golf is, concentration and timing, then throwing a fit when you ruin a shot, especially with the new advanced shot which is a very nice addition.

Using the advance shot you don't have the usual gauges, you will have to time and judge how much swing you need. Takes time to get used to, but easy to adopt.

Downloadable content is expected; new characters are already posted on PSN, with holes and courses sure to follow.

The multiplayer is good fun, especially the "take turns type". You could be a good sport or jump up and down and walk around in front of whoever is taking his shot. (Disclaimer: I by no means endorse such actions, and shall not be liable for their actions)

Over all I would recommend this game for any one who wishes to have fun with friends and family, make sure to get an additional controller.

The cover art makes this game look like it will be a poor cartoony golf game, it completely fooled me and thats why I waited to buy it. The gameplay is rock solid, physics of the ball rolling over the hilly landscape give you the feeling you'r really playing, when you putt arrows on the terrain show you the dirrection and speed of the slope. The scenery and graphics in general really are amazing and don't get enough credit, it is very polished and pleasing to the eye, you feel relaxed the whole time. There is an advanced shots feature instead of the usualy bar on the bottom, this adds alot to the gameplay.
The music and sound effects are clear and also give you a relaxed feeling, I played tiger woods and honestly if you want a realistic golf game hot shots is the one to get, I know that sounds strange but it's all too true, tiger woods lets you cheat moving the ball mid air and doesn't give you that relaxed golf feeling.
A game in general should be fun and when it all comes down to it I could play this one all day without getting bored, that alone makes it worthy of a purchase.
9.6/10 from me because it could have more maps, but keep in mind there is downloadable content and they will continue to support this game via the playstation network.
