Painkiller Overdose?

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 3 / 7

The name on the box says Painkiller Overdose.
It looks more like Serious Sam. It sounds more like Serious Sam. It plays more like Serious Sam. What the he## happened?
Clunky game play, boring sound track and stupid humor. Yes, Serious Sam has Hijacked this game and it ain't good.
The first 2 versions of Painkiller Rocked! This version should be thrown on the rocks. Save your money.....

DOWN TO THE LOWER LEVELS OF HELL...

PAINKILLER was not exactly breaking new ground with its release in 2004, yet it was a fast FPS with a demonic theme and innovative weaponry that offered tons of fun! It's first expansion (BATTLE OUT OF HELL) did not veer far off.

The same can be said up to a point for PAINKILLER: OVERDOSE (although developed by a different team than the one that gave us the original and the first expansion).
It is a (standalone) expansion with most of the virtues and all the faults of the original PAINKILLER. Excellent sound (especially if equipped with 5.1 or 7.1 speakers, you will be jumping to look over your shoulder all the time...); quite good graphics (yet not at par with the latest releases); a refreshed set of weapons and a really fast pace.

On the other hand, it will get tedious pretty fast as the story is paper thin and the level design is adequate yet with little variations. How many versions of Hell-rooms can you stomach?
So, after having tried all your weapons (from the good-ol' veggie cube and rocket launcher to the new demonic laser) and even gave their alternative firing mode a go, well, there is not much new to see there...

Recommended only to the fans of the series - everybody else, I would advise starting with the original.

ok but does not follow painkiller story
or come to any conclusion and no mention
about eve.
and no hard game play like the first painkiller.

but id like to see painkiller continue on just
like the first one and done just like the first one.
i love this game.

Serious Sam meets Satan

Take the best parts of Painkiller, throw in Serious Sam gameplay and humor, mix in a half-demon, half-angel, and you get Painkiller Overdose. While it is really just a painkiller add-on, it freshens up the tried and true formula with some unique weapons, new character, and very cool enemies. I have not finished the game yet, but so far I am loving it. I have played through 4 levels. The first level gives such a sense of fire and brimstone, it is palpable. The enemies feel more like the hordes of Hell than any game I've played. I like the familiarity of Painkiller, but I am glad they have de-emphasized the hop-skip-jump routines to find hidden holy items. The homage to Serious Sam is great as I was a huge fan of that series. I give it a high fun factor. If you are looking for a deep plot with puzzle solving, this is not the game for you.

Excellent gameplay, graphics and sound. Very reminiscent of other fast paced quake 3 like games such as return to castle wolfenstein.

Good, but not AS Good.

I personally found Painkiller Overdose to be MUCH more challenging than the first ones, but also considerably less enjoyable. Belial (Your Character) Isn't developed very well, and becomes cheesy/annoying VERY quickly. The weapons are also changed from the original, and more nice/flashy, but ultimately unnecessary ones are added.

I personally would have been far happier running around as Daniel Garner again, with my smaller but more streamlined arsenal from the first two.

However, No such luck... The game is still challenging though, and if you can ignore Belial's ridiculous babbling, it can still be quite fun. At least until the end Boss, who is just ridiculous in his final stage.

Very fun, very dumb. If you like the original, you'll like this..kind of

Simply, this is another chapter of Painkiller. Those of us that loved the original, and loved BOH, will also like this one.

Basically, Painkiller has no real story (it has a silly one), and you run around as fast as you can shooting things. I probably played the original over 100 times through over the years, and the BOH follow on, about 50. This one is much the same, although it takes some time to reorient yourself into Painkiller thought

The dynamics are almost the same as all PK games, and you'll have to take a bit of time to get yourself into it. Once you're acclimated, its a barrel of laughs. If you take it too seriously, you're missing the point of the PK franchise. Lots of dumb enemies, lots of twisted weapons, lots of silly ammo. And then its over..

Don't overthink this one. Its a goofy way to spend some spare time. Its not serious art (bioshock) or great strategy and story (stalker, half life series), its just a shooter
