If you ever played this game on the PC, you will realize that this game is truely awesome. Not only does it have very realistic gore (with the help of the GHOUL technology) the storyline isn't too shabby as you play ex seal John Mullins in an attempt to take out a huge crime lord. With an awesome mixture of local and exotic locales, this game truely rocks.
Now that its coming to the Dreamcast, its twice as sweet!! :)
Best First Person Shooter Ever!

This is the best first person shooter on the market. Incredible graphics (and incredibly graphic) and inventive scenarios make this the best game of its kind I've played. DO take the 'M' rating seriously, however. The designers obviously studied war footage and the goriest movies available to create the blood and guts effects, and they are something to behold. Not recommended for young kids or anyone who's emotionally disturbed, but for mature gamers who can separate reality from pixels on a television, SOLDIER OF FORTUNE will keep you up for days as mercenary John Mullins, fighting to save the world. This review is for the Sega Dreamcast version.

The game is fun to play until you play for 2 minutes and have to wait 5 minutes during load times to play some levels, not exaggerating!you falll asleep between missions, i would have given it a 4 if not for the load time, the load time is actually longer than the game.
Violence not as over-the-top as hyped

General/Summary: Everyone has their own opinion on the violence factor of games. To be honest I thought the violence in this game was overstated. Its bloody to be sure but not as bad as it was hyped. I think Perfect Dark Or Duke Nukem for N64 was equal to me. Its a very good and challenging game but the load times are unacceptable in this day in age of games. I have played games from years ago when the technology was much less that loaded better then this game does. It seems to take the momentum out of the game. I'd be interested in knowing why the load times are so lengthy. If you like a good first person shooter this game fits the bill but its pretty run-of-the-mill stuff. Nothing real groundbreaking here.
Gameplay: I love how much you can configure things. I use a keyboard and mouse and you can assign every function to the keys you like. This is the only way to go if you can afford it. I couldn't imagine using the controller. Load times, as mentioned in the summary, is the only sore point.
Graphics: The graphics are pretty top-notch but not as pretty as Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament for Dreamcast. The models of the characters seem blocky to me but they aren't horrible. The environments look good but not great. The menu screens look excellent.
Sound: Sound is on par with most games of this type. Music is good, not great. Weapon sounds and voices are pretty well done but again, nothing special.
An awesome game!

Soldier of Fortune for the Dreamcast is the best first person shooter I have ever played. Killer graphics, spooky sound effects and a mood setting musical score make this game number one on my list. It is extremely realistic and best of all, there are no stupid aliens or monsters. The developers of this game did a great job in every aspect including keeping it simple and to the point. The load times are a drag, but it's worth the wait. If there were more games like this, I'd never leave the house!

If you like blood and gore, this is the game for you... Usually in shooters like GoldenEye, you just see a little blood patch on their clothing, BUT NOT THIS ONE!! I won't get into anything really bad, such as blood and gore, I will tell you this, If you don't like blood and gore, stay away from this game... If you REALLY REALLY REALLY like shooters, I'll give you a hint, the first time you shoot the first guy, YOU WILL BE HOOKED!!!! Trust me, IF YOU LIKE SHOOTERS, BUY THIS GAME!!!!

If you are a fan of first-person shooters, this is the best game on the market for the Dreamcast console. Gameplay is incredible, and the environments are incredibly detailed. Be warned that it is very graphic - enemies can be shot in dozens of locations, and it is common to blow off heads, legs, arms, etc. in realistic fashion. Also, the one downside of this game is load time - be prepared to spend 15% of your time (literally) waiting for new boards to load. Well worth the wait, though.
A bloody good time

When Soldier of Fortune first hit the PC; the unabashed graphic violence was a large issue with gamers and non gamers alike. Definitely not for the weak of heart or young children, this port of Soldier of Fortune is one of the Dreamcast's last best shooters. In the game you play as merc John Mullins and go on missions from saving hostages to retrieving nukes. Naturally, you alone are up against some enormous opposition as you have frequent run in's with enemy soldiers and terrorists. Most notable about the game is the aforementioend violence which earns it's Mature rating. Limbs can be shot off and the death screams are very realistic. Firing at a head or neck ends with explosive results as well, but this adds to the gritty unflinching realism of the game. At it's heart, Soldier of Fortune is pure action packed mayhem, it's just a straight forward shooter with no puzzle elements at all. All good points aside, this port has it's share of bad. The game has some ridiculously long loading times, clunky controls, substandard enemy AI, and some now and then blocky graphics. All in all though, Soldier of Fortune is still a game worth picking up if you still own a Dreamcast and are a fan of the FPS genre.
S.O.F. isn't very fun

Okay I don't have the DC version of course. It isn't out yet. But I do have the PC version and it isn't very fun. Sure you blow heads off and there are gutts flying everywhere. But they truth is that there is no strategy behind the game. You just go around shooting. I like stratagy games like Metal Gear Solid though. But I am telling you this game isn't worth buying. It gets old really fast. It is exactly like DOOM except against humans and better graphics of course. But remember how DOOM was so awesome for the first 5, 6 maybe 7 days then it got really, well then you didn't play it anymore. Well that is how this game is. I haven't played it since the 1st day I got it. I recommend not buying this game!

When I played this game at my friends house, I loved it and played a long time. As soon as I got home I was on the web trying to find it for dreamcast. As soon as I found it I was begging my mom to get it and making deals with her to get it. I haven't gotton it yet but when I do, I'll be the happiest person on Earth.
