cheap short term fun

First of all the fact that the game has bad graphics does not help, and what do they do they make the game too short. The location choices were terrible I think they could take the time to make good locations. The attacks are bad. Hello? New Goblin and Green Goblin cannot throw pumpkin bombs and fly on their Goblin Gliders.

Great game for teaming up with the kids

If I was buying this game just for myself, I'd probably rate it lower. It's sort of a simpled down version of Marvel Alliance. Graphics, gameplay, and plot are all more cartoony. There are less characters, less stat tweaking, less control.

However from the perspective of a dad looking for some quality time with the 7 year old boy, it's a great game. It's simple enough that he can master it, but varied enough that I'm not bored with the gameplay. He's been particularly tickled with the variety of characters and enjoys trying out each new team mate and their powers as you unlock them.

Our 5 year old girl played it for a while and did have some fun, but eventually grew frustrated with it. Your mileage may vary, but that appears to be about the cut off.

Essentially you start off with Spiderman and a few sidekick characters. One person must play Spiderman, but you can select which sidekick to bring along with you for each mission. As you collect coins, you can buy upgrades to the character's powers and stats. In each zone (made up of 4 missions), you can unlock one or two new sidekicks. Each mission takes about 20-30 minutes to complete.

If you've got younger kids, you enjoyed the Lego Star Wars games, or Marvel Alliance, this game is probably a good choice.

First off this is not a game for those who have played Gears,Halo,Cod4 etc. This is a very linear not very new just a fun kid game for around 10 hours. I bought this game for 12.48, which to me is a reasonable price. After playing it, I would say this is good for around 10-20$, but beyond that its not worth it. The achievements are relatively easy I got 925. The game is extremely easy i failed one time, because i died fighting a boss one time. So basically if you see this is a bargain or if you have kids who like the Marvel series, then you should probably give this a shot.
Pros
legnth 10-14 not bad.
simple (nice to have a break from the harder games)
not soo violent(nice not to always play violent games too me)
achievements 925 easy ones. the other 75 are harder.

cons

repetitive
nothing new
graphics are nothing to write home about.

overall 7.0

Pretty good for a linear beat-em-up

[Minor Spoiler Ahead]
Spider-Man: Friend or Foe is good game for a linear two player beat 'em up ... its fighting system seems better than similar games, such as Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and has a wide array of combos, but that seems to be the game's primary strength. The game is unfortunately not without its flaws: the gameplay is short, linear and relatively easy - you could probably beat the game in a single 12 hour sitting ... the storyline is weird: that dome-headed Mysterio gets a hold of alien symbiont technology and tries to take over the world by creating holographic venom clones and by mind controlling other superheroes and super-villains, all of which join you as sidekicks after you meet, battle and/or free them ... the enemies are repetitive throughout the game and separated into size categories (small, medium, large, mini-boss, Marvel character boss), and don't have any proper special attacks/defenses to distinguish themselves - aside from the Marvel character bosses, of course ... the character upgrade system for your sidekick friends leaves much to be desired and many of the Marvel characters have either had their storyline changed from the comic version of themselves or are lacking in one or more core abilities during gameplay ... the static camera control prevents you from absorbing the scenery by allowing you to rotate the camera to look around ... coming from a roleplaying game standpoint, the game lacks NPCs and character interactions are minimal ... and lastly, too many of the boss fights are won by throwing objects at the super-villain ...
To summarize: Its a fun but flawed beat 'em up and worth getting once the price comes down below $20 ...

First of all I'm not too fond of the matter of paying $40 - $60 on a game that I can beat within a 24 hour period. Unfornuately this is one of those games that fall into that category. Most of the other reviewers are right, it is very repeative. This is a game that's worth renting but definately not worth buying.

cool spider man game

the reason i gave it 4 stars is beacuse it's a fun beat 'm up game. if your a spidey fan you'll like it.it's no ultimate alliance but i think it's the best spider man game. i played the movie games they were all right, but i like how you can play the villians and use characters like silver sable ;black cat and prowler and so on . the graphics are good ,and the controls are easy.unlike the movie games were you have to collect tokens and track people down it's the same old thing . and the ultimate spider man was too cartoony . like i said if your a fan ,and you like beat 'm up games then it's a game worth getting.

Yet another spiderman game.

The first poster was absolutely right.

First, the graphics are good but its just another game based on the same controlls that every other top down combat game is based on. I think its neat to play the villians for a change but really doesn't present anything new or novel.

If you have Ultimate Alliance or Justice League this will feel quite the same.

On the other hand, my kids love it and don't know or care about its plain-ness so that makes it a winner for me.

ehhhh... with a shoulder shrug

I recently rented Spider-man Fof. Boy was that a good call. Not because the game is good, but being such a huge Spider-man fan, I'm glad I didn't rush in and buy it the moment it came out.
Now I knew the graphics were going to be so-so from the trailers on tv. However, the gameplay in general is as poor as the graphics. The attacks are limited, unless your Spider-man, and become quickly repetative. In other words, after an hour or so, if you haven't already beaten the game, you become one of the button mashing zombies that your trying to defeat.
Playing as villians from the Spider-man comics is fun for sometime, but the repetetive gameplay ruins it quickly, as well as the dorky backgrounds which make me feel as though I'm playing a game made for toddles, and I mean little toddlers. And don't believe the bull about beyond the movie. They just took the likeness of the characters and made a crappy game. (Hello, dock ock and the green goblin are dead!)
The one plus I found was the versus mode. You can battle as and against any character you unlock in the game. However, you have to have a buddy to play with in order to access it and the arenas are limited unless you've unlocked all the secret areas in the game.

So in conclusion, rent this game if you must thirst your quench for spidey, who for someone reason gets on my nerves rather quickly in this game (voice acting so-so). But it is not worth the $50 it's going for currently. All around it's just not a very satisfying game.

Sorry Spidey.
