Wow. The intro movie got me excited. Neat robots with guns mounted in their foreheads. And then there's the gameplay. It's been said in other reviews--room after room of boxes and opponents. I can't remember playing such an un-fun game. Too bad, as it's one of the only true originals for PSP. Avoid at all costs.
What a let down..instant trade in...stay away

Ok here it is, I was anticipating this game b/c the description was very cool but unfortunatly that is all thats cool about it. First off you have to use the D- pad to control your character when the joystick would have been alot easier to use. The controls are horrible. From the first screen there were lost pixels and glitches. All the rooms look exactly alike except there might be a few more crates in one then the other. Anyways you cant save whenever you want and if you die you lose all your weapons that you picked up so you have to fight hand to whatever weapon your enemy has wich is very unfair. Anyways long story short...DO NOT BUY THIS GAME... I did and am going to get pissed when I go back to trade it in when all they will give me is 10 bucks after I wasted 40 on it.
Lots of Repitition, Boring Concept...Weak.

I have been renting alot of games since I got my PSP and this is hands down the worst of the lot. Like a previous reviewer said, the intro looked cool, but when you get to the game there is alot of disappointment.
First, the game play is terrible - the D pad is almost useless to use with any accuracy, and it's hard to control. Also, the character looks almost like a stick figure, and the 3rd person view, along with the garbage control made me feel like my character was flailing around.
Second, this game is about as repetitive as the old Pitfall for Atari 2600, except that is better. The rooms look the same and have just a different amount of crates in different configurations. At least Pitfall changed things up a little.
Third, the game is just not very friendly to the user - the options and menu screens seemed very difficult to use, (changing weapons), in fact weapons I picked up just seemed to disappear on the menu screens, (guess I did sorting wrong...) and interface is not very user friendly. You can't save the game when you want - and overall, I can't find any redeeming qualities to this game other than the cool movie intros. Do not even rent!
Nice graphics. Horrible game.

This game is boring, repetative and downright dull. The concept was cool but the coolness is overshadowed by the poor controls, poor sound, cheesy bosses and HIGHLY repetative maps.
Avoid this game like the plague. Trust me.
Graphics are great, but ...

The cover of this PSP game looked so cool that I just had to get it ... even before the price came down. But once I got it, and had it inserted to play, the disappointment mounted.
First of all, the menu when you're trying to upgrade your guy is SOOO complicated. I got lost very easily, and wasn't at all sure what I was supposed to do. So I ended up just hitting things randomly.
Second, the movement of the character around the environment is so ... BIZARRE ... and the fighting ... even on the first level is so very difficult.
It's a waste of money.
Fun until you realize all the levels are the same

This is the first PSP game i bought and about 20 games later still the worst. I have never played a game as simple as this one. There are toms of weapons and the graphics are descent but there is nothing that would make you want to continue. I would honestly rather play pong with myself.
Rengoku is an awsome game depending on who you are

Rengoku is about a robot trying to get to the top of a tower. On each level of the tower you enter a map wit rooms containing enemies. after you reach the rooms (there are very few in each level) a warp is opened to the next level containing a boss. The game repeats with a new level them boss and so on. The maps aren't repetitive and in the begining the game is a little hard. But as you progress through the levels you aquire more weapons which make the game easier.
Rengoku is a great game about strategy and weapons with great controls. the controls are the controls that you would figure you might use, nothing more nothing less.
Personally i think it was a great game but kids under the age of 12 might find it difficult and abandom the game. So don't get if for kids under that age. I hope I helped you.

First of all, some one said that the sound was terrible. I guess they were deaf or something because the soundtrack to this game is the best I have ever heard in a game. A lot of people complain that this game does not use the analog stick, but like another reviewer stated, people have been playing games with directional pads for decades, so who cares. The graphics are some of the best you will see on a the PSP, and the art gallery is stunningly beautiful and creative. This game creates a very tangible and unique feel, and a player can really get absorbed into the world it creates. The gameplay is as good as can be expected on a PSP. Te aiming is extremly simple, you get in ranged and hit and hold the L button, how hard is that??? Overall, this game is one of those rare titles that has absolute brilliant design and implementation. Whoever made this game had a top-notch imagination and really made this game with care. This game has a high level of polish and looks, sounds, feels, and plays excellent. A quality choice for anyone interested in a difficult, imaginitive and immersive experiance.

i know most reviews say that this game never should have been made, but it really depends on the gamer. i bought it as my first psp game, and i loved it for the first month and a half, but then it started to drop slowly in its replay value. the levels are not very different, but the controls are pretty good, better than halo 2, and the graphics are very good in most parts, so you should rent or borrow this first. i personally would reccommend waiting for gta, burnout legends or armored core, but if you like this game, you will love it, and if you dont like it, you will hate it. peace out.
Can be addicting

I originally picked up this first version of the game used with some trepidation from various reviews and comments from game stores. I wasn't expecting very much, however, what I found was a totally addicting fighting game.
As you progress through the game you become more adept at what weapons to carry and use.
I liked the game enough that after I finished it, I purchase the sequel and recently completed it also.
