Yes, I grew up in the 80's so I was prepared to enjoy this game from the moment I saw the song list.
If you've played or know of the gameplay in other SingStar titles, nothings changed. The only reason I give this 4 stars overall (as I would the other S.S. titles) is that rather than singing well, Singstar wants you to mimic the artists performance. Don't get me wrong - it's a fun challenge - but you could grunt instead of knowing the lyrics and as long as your timing and notes are right, the game doesn't seem to care. Don't forget you need the special Singstar microphones to play the title so if you don't already have them, you'll need to buy them.
The playlist is great. I expected the same generic songs you'd find on your typical 80's compilation cd, but they throw in a few unique titles such as Kim Wilde's 'Kids in America' Nena's '99 Red Balloons' and Erasure's 'a Little Respect'. Video's I hadn't seen SINCE the 80's. All in all, if you like 80's music and music videos and like to sing, SingStar 80's will give you hours of fun and nostalgia. Like, totally...
Fun for "old" people!

I grew up in the '80's, so I knew I had to have this game. Even if you can't carry a tune, it is so much fun to play. My 6-year-old and 11-year-old daughters love to play it with me.
Slightly more evolved than its predecessors

It's not quite karaoke--it's sing-along with the band.
The GOOD: More bonus mixes! Real songs and videos from original artists. Can use EyeToy USB camera. Saves songs for replay.
The BAD: Rather random selection of 80s tunes. Must use GENUINE SingStar USB adapter (but you can plug in other mics into the adapter).
Slow-loading--it even autosaves when you quit.
Can't hear tunes without the original artist singing with you.
This title does not work on updated PS3 systems, even though other titles may still be on the compatibility list (they don't work either). Sony flagged them all, not for technical issues, but because of the upcoming PS3 version which will have an a la carte, iTunes-style download system.

What else can I say? 80's ROCKED! 80's songs are easy and fun. I really like the duet feature on this disc (also available on the other Singstar discs). If you like Karaoke games and 80's music you will love this.

This was an interesting addition to the family Singstar collection. Something that both my wife and I who are teens of the 80's could really get into. The songs were all well known to us and that made it much easier for us to sing the songs.
One of the things I'd say about Singstar 80's is that it helps to 'even out' the playing field between the generations.
The only drawback to this game is that younger generations with little to no experience to this music probably won't enjoy it as much. ((Well that and Twisted Sister's video which I was so glad to have blocked out of my memory up until the day the game arrived.))
Save your money.

I read nothing but good reviews for this game, so I was really excited to get it. But I have to say, my excitement immediately faded as soon as I started playing. It actually managed to take the fun out of karaoke. You can't really go off and sing the song the way you want to. You have to sing the same level as the original artist, whether it's in your vocal range or not. The only good thing about the game, was watching all the videos that I hadn't seen since I was little. In the end, that's all I used it for, [...].
Great fun for the whole family and friends

We bought this game for my 6 year old daughter--who loves to sing--just to give her a little more challenge and help learn the lyrics to the songs. She's had a blast along with my son (11), the rest of the family and many of our friends. Even though the game seems to let you slide along without knowing the lyrics perfectly but just carrying a tune--or trying--while in easy mode, it does help them learn tone by showing your pitch as sharp or flat while helping learning the lyrics. This helps even the beginner vocalist strive to try again.
Every time we put it in to play we end up adding in players as friends and family pop in. We all get a good laugh and have a good time regardless of whether or your good at singing or not.
I have even noticed vocal improvement with my son in just the past few days playing the game. He wasn't really that interested in singing in the first place. Now he's always asking me or someone else to play.
The actual artists videos are great too!
I am ordering the other three titles for the kids surprise Christmas and to add more variety and songs to appeal to everyone. Hope they plan to add more titles in the future.

This is a blast in the past for sure. I don't recomend it for young children. My daughter wants to sing the songs with us, but some of them, in my opinion, isn't really good for the younger children. Though I grew up with most of the great 80's, I can't say it's good for the younger crowd. Yes, I know I have stated that already, but I guess I feel that it's something I need to stress.. So other then that omg, it's a GREAT game. Get your family and friends together and have a blast.. I couldn't even get my hubby to sing, but with the Singstars, lol I can't get him to stop.. It's great.. Awesome songs.. LOL even songs that you probably had forgotten. I would definately recomend this...

My son was happy to get it for Christmas. My high-school years were in the 80's and I love this one the best out of all his SingStar's. We have a great time and making wonderful memories together.
80's lovers must have!

This game is so much fun. I am not really a video game person, but I have all of the singstar games & they are great party games.
There are three different levels (Easy, Medium, Hard). You can sing alone and try to beat high scores.
You can also sing with another person & choose from different game modes:
Duet (you sing different parts & together to get a combined score)
Battle (both sing the whole song & battle for high score)
Pass-the-mic (pretty self-explanatory)
I also like that you can do Freestyle if you just want to do plain karaoke & sing however you want. There is no scoring, but it's good for people who want to go crazy. :D
I love singstar & have all of the ps2 discs. The 80's one probably gets the most play by my family & friends.
The only real drawback with singstar is that their microphones are proprietary. That means you can't use them with other games and you can't use other microphones with singstar.
I hope they keep coming out with more!
