This is the game I've always wanted

If you enjoy science fiction, space operas, huge battles in space with massive ships tricked out with outrageous weapons, buy this game. But don't stop there, if you want a game with a great story, wide open options to customize and manage your fleet, and top-notch voice acting, again, buy this piece of software magic. It is a steal. Why this game has not won tons of awards is a mystery. If you have been tempted to buy more expensive space combat games with the words trek in them, you'll have far more fun with Nexus.

Cool, But only Half the Original Game

Nexis was originally done by digital reality and Mith games as imperium galactica 3. When publisher cdv dropped the project it was bought by hd and shipped half completed. The space battles were only supposed to be a layer in the game. But it looks like all the strategic elements have been removed and replaced with a extremely scripted battle campaign. in the original concept you were to have a galactic empire and design, create and fight huge fleets, have planets, space bases, and all the other details of ig2, along with being able to play as many different races. digital reality was fired before this was done and with only the shell for the scenarios completed the project was shelved when low and behold cdv sold it and renamed it nexus.

It looked extremely cool as a rts but with all that removed and replaced with boring space battles and a scriped layout you wana choke, its disappointing. their was only 25 scripted missions and then its over... with no way to choose the ships that you wish to use its frustrating... I would just go buy hw2. which has many more mods that add to the games life span.

Best Science Fiction Game Yet

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 0 / 1

For those of you who love science fiction, this is the game for you. All those trekkies and Star Wars fans out there will appreciate the thrill of being able to pilot a fleet of starships. The game starts out relatively slowly as you learn the basic navigational controls. You're soon in your first battle however, and this is when the real fun begins. Your ship, the Stilleto, has a wide selection of weapons and a wing of fighters at your disposal. The tutorial guides you through the use of the various weapons and their applications against enemy vessels.

You take command of the alien vessel the Angelwing relatively soon after this. Without giving away all of the story, you wind up traveling across the galaxy via a network of wormholes, engaging in heated space battles and meeting many new alien races. These include the violent, warlike Gorg, the mysterious, elusive (but helpful) Ghost, the ancient, benevolent Vardrags, the Locust, and the super-advanced Mechanoids. It is your job to remove the Mechanoid threat from the universe with the help of the Ghost, Vardrag, and an AI being named Angel.

You eventually have command over several ships, some with unique abilities like the all-powerful Seige Laser. Success requires a player to use the strengths of these various ships as a unified whole (This can prove to be quite difficult for beginners: I would recommend visiting gamefaqs.com for strategies).

Problems with gameplay are relatively few, but include:
1. No display indicating number of torpedoes in upgrade screen
2. Difficulty in tracking positions of multiple ships over a large area.
3. Destruction of fighters while returning to their respective ships.
4. Problem with Seige Laser Formation in tracking a moving target (the Formation moves very slowly and must readjust every few seconds to follow a target moving laterally).

The main problem is replay value, which is somewhat low. However, the game will keep you entertained for at least a good twenty hours even on Beginner difficulty. Despite the above problems, this game is worth buying, especially if you enjoy science fiction in any form.

Very realistic and well done!!!

If you are fond of good graphics and a bit of a challenge, then this game is for you. I played the demo version and I can say I enjoyed it despite the sophistication in graphics, ambiguity in space and multitude of commands and functions. I had to play it many times to fully understand what was going on.
I really suggest playing the demo version first to get yourself comfy with the sophisticated graphics of the game because this game enables you to view battlefields and manipulate spaceships from any direction in the mutlidimensional space and you soon realize how different this game is from any terrestrial strategy game.
Enjoy!!!

Very good but nothing is ever perfect

I loved the way the game looked the way it felt (much more like the original Home world then Home world 2). The graphics are just excellent. Everything flows together very nicely which is good because I don't exactly have a card that can be considered top of the line anymore.
That is where the game starts to break down. I loved it but there are just things that annoyed me.
The plot is clique and has been done before all the elements that one would expect from such a situation have already been done before. Although admittedly the designers of this game did a better job of it then the designers of Freelancer did.
The voice acting is both badly done and obnoxious some classic lines are
"I guess you're not such a putz after all" and "Well sir I would love to fly into a minefield for you but it looks like the admiral has already taken care of that"

Another thing that got me was the A.I half the time your shields have been taken done before you realize that the enemy is even around. While the game is fun to play what is not fun is getting plastered 14 times in a row.

Overall-The game is meticulous in its attention to detail but at times it can be a little too meticulous. Do not pay the price for this wait a couple of months.

Pretty Good Space Combat Game

This game is pretty well made. The graphics are great, the various weapons armed on the various ships are deadly, and the explosions are surprisingly realistic.

I personally found this game to be slightly shorter than I expected and it came with a few bugs that would crash after I did a certain thing.

In one mission you have to destroy a certain ship and it would be the first ship I went for (naturally). After I destroyed it, the game crashed... I found out that I had to destroy a smaller ship before destroying the objective to bypass the bug.

The multiplayer is pretty good, though you'll rarely find someone online.

I suggest you buy this with another game for the same price in mind so you can return it and have a Plan B.

Play the demo frist secound and thired

This game is intresting, play the demo frist is what i have to say. Not just once but take a week or two off play the demo again and then again if you did not get it the frist time. Problem i ran into was its controles are nothing freeformed like Homeworld i started clicking and nothing would happen. But after a few months i cam back to the demo after seeing the game on amazon again and it made sences more. you don't controle the units freely you have to have a target to send them to. Over all i liked the game just wish i could send my ships anywayre i want. Not just way points and guarding ships. Oh well it will wast a few hours

Excellent Graphics

The graphics for this game are absolutely amazing. However, the gameplay is very linear yet grasping. Once the game is started, you won't want to stop until the story ends. You even get tied up in the extremely intense battles later in the game.

Amazing Game! Definitely Worth a Look!

Originally I had never heard of this game. But about a month after it's launch I read good reviews for it on several gaming sites (Gamespot, IGN, GamePro, etc.) so I decided to try it out.

This game is amazing!

The graphics look stunning, and are very detailed. I haven't seen a space game this good since EvE Online. They look great! The ships are well designed, the backgrounds are beautiful, and best of all, huge explosions!

The game is also a lot of fun to play. Although it is a bit hard to get used to the controls, you are given the option to pause the game at anytime (with the space bar key) and to take your time and issue out the exact orders you want to your fleet. After you get adjusted to the controls, you can move on to the advanced controls where you can give exact commands to each ship in your fleet: target ship A with gun B, hit ship B with missile C, repair your shields not your missile launcher, etc.

The story itself is also very deep, and it caught me almost instantly. I was already interested in the story before I even finished the 'training missions' (the first two or three missions are really simple and are more oriented toward introducing the player to the controls). The voice acting helped a lot with the story as well. They really added to the feel of the game.

However, there are three things I didn't like about the game:
1) The story was too short! There are only about 25 missions or so and the first three are basically training missions. However, there are several downloadable campaigns available that have been released by fans available on the Internet. Although they aren't nearly as good as the original campaign, they are pretty decent and let you enjoy the game's systems - gameplay, graphics, etc. - a bit more. You can find these on the official forums.
2) A lot of it takes some trial and error. I think some of the other reviewers posted this, and they are right. The order in which to do things is never really given. Also since configuring your ship correctly can be the difference between success and failure, it'd be nice to know what to expect in the next mission, but that is rarely (actually I think almost never) the case.
3) There's nobody to multiplayer with! This is a shame because multiplayer is surprisingly fun! There's the usual deathmatch / team deathmatch modes, but I think the funnest has to be the skirmishes. You can challenge your friends and each of you is given a fleet of ships to see who can get the most kills or score the most points, etc.

Don't worry about the crashes that others have complained about in the other reviews. Those have been addressed with the v1.01 patch. (in fact, the North American version of the game comes already patched - it was released in Europe first).

Nexus: The Jupiter Incident was a lot of fun for me. It's sad that not that many people got to enjoy the game. I really liked it and I think there are many others out there that will like it too. So give it a shot!
