This game plays almost like a perfect copy of the Panzer General series and is a MUST HAVE for any fans of said series. Any fan of hex map strategy war games would like this even if they haven't been exposed to Panzer General. I am very happy with this purchase. The units stats are very well done and the game play mechanics are perfect for the DS. I hope they make a sequel.

If you ever liked hex wargames, you'll love Panzer Tactics DS. It has all the best elements of turn-based strategy wargames, without the nitty-gritty rules that would get one mired in details. It is very fun, with the added bonus of unit level experience and special attacks. The developers did a great job packing the UI and gameplay experience within the limited controls of the DS.

I don't know what the other guy is talking about. If you like turn based strategy games, or WW2 strategy games, or both, you'll like this title. It reminds me alot of Desert Commander, the old Nintendo title
basically you just set up your units at the start of each scenario, then move and attack with each. at the end you use points you've accumulated through capturing towns or destroying enemy units to buy new units or repair the old ones. then the enemy gets its turn. rinse, repeat
nothing ground-breaking, but its fun to play and really if you want cutting edge games you're not going to play a hand-held anyway. Pick this one up and give it a try, its good for a few hours of fun
Slooooooow!

I really enjoy this type of game. The military strategy type games seem to have eaten up most of my time on my DS. Advance Wars and Front Mission are two of my most oft played games. So it was with considerable excitement that I loaded up Panzer Tactics.
Military strategy? Check.
Authentic hardware? Check.
Historical accuracy? Check.
Everything I love about video games seemed to be contained within this plastic cartridge. The graphics are great, the music is listenable, and the story line is engaging. One of the most exciting aspects of this game to me was the ability to play as Not just as the Americans or the Germans, but you can play as the Soviets as well. So with much excitement brewing, I wrapped myself in this game on a slow Tuesday night. I was tired, nothing was on TV, and I had nothing much to do, and hours could be spent brewing up military strategies. I was fairly happy with this game for about 30 minutes when I realized that I was still on the first mission, and hadnt accomplished much. This game is SO slow moving. Your units dont move far at all per turn, and some of the objectives are many, many squares away! Another aspect that infuriated me was some of the inattention to details. For example in the first mission I played as the Nazis attempting to take Warsaw, Poland. One of the first battles I had was my Nazi airforce of ME109s against some Polish bi-planes. The first battle it was 10 planes vs. 10 planes. On the first swoop, my top-of-the line fighters took out 3 rickety old bi-planes, and the WW 1 era Polish airforce took out 5 of my fighters! I had a second set of 10 fighters lined up to go in for the final kill, so this time it would be 10 vs. 7. I like these odds. With the second attack I downed 2 bi-planes, and the Poles for 4 of mine! Impossible! With this, I switched of the game, probably to never play again. Thanks, but no thanks. While the vehicles, maps, and situations may be true, the impossible situations that the CPU was able to pull out of time and time again just seemed ... cheap. Don't purchase this unless you have hours upon hours to kill, the patience of a Swiss watch maker and like ridiculously impossible odds against you no matter the situation. I think I'll stick with Advance Wars.
Panzer General II cloned (and that's a good thing)

Like another reviewer said, this is like a copy of the Panzer General series, specifically Panzer General II, and if you loved that game, you'll love this one. It's also tempting to compare this to Advance Wars DS, although it's not quite as easy to pick up and play it as the Advance Wars series. This is partly because the DS is not a great platform for this game. The game is a bit too detailed for such a small screen, and it can be a little difficult to make out what unit is what, especially if you are using the less-bright older DS instead of the DS Lite. That's the only real drawback and why I didn't give it a 5 star rating.
It's also wonderful to be able to play someone besides the Americans in a WWII game for a change. Sometimes people like to play Germans or Soviets instead! Hope they make a Pacific War sequel so I can play the Japanese...
Reminiscent of the old strategy board games.

Panzer Tactics is a good strategy game with similar complexity to the old hex board games. While I like that it's more serious than Advance Wars, I do wish it had a little more of the simplicity and the 'human side' of Advance Wars. While Panzer Tactics is about machinery, Advance Wars feels a little more personal. I get a little more attached to 'my men' and a little more sorry when I send them to their deaths.
Great strategy game!

This game rocks! If you liked panzer general 2 you will love this game. The graphics are ok but the strategy is what makes this game so much fun. I have a hard time putting it down. Using the touch screen is a little touchy but you get use to it. You can save the game at any time and if you fail a mission you can start back up at your save point. I have been playing this for a week now and I'm still on the easy missions so this game isn't going to end anytime soon.
Warning Addictive!

This game is great! The scenarios are absorbing and realistic, and the historical accuracy that this game has is also nice. Some of the units can be hard to tell apart, but that problem goes away over time as you get used to the game. I have played the Advance Wars games and this game is a little more realistice (with hexagon squares, planes being able to fly over land units and your units getting hurt even if you destroy the unit you are attacking)and also takes longer to play. Since I have already beatean the scenarios on my Advance Wars games more times than I can count the longer play is nice. The main problem I have with this game is that I pick it up only intending to play for a few minutes and next thing I know it is hours later. So this is a great game but don't buy it unless you have time to kill, becuase it is extremely addictive.
Not a historical game!

I have played turn based games since Avalon Hill board games (Panzer Leader, Afika Korps, etc.) The German Campaign seems ok, except for the Soviet Airpower seems too strong. The Allied Campaign is where the trouble really starts. By the time of Allied Landings (Anzio, Normandy, Torch) through the rest of 1944-45 German airpower was not really a major issue except for large scale bombing during the day. The game in no way historically demonstrates this! Also the Mustang was superior to most German fighters (2-1). Also the Allied armies by Operation Cobra had a 3-1 advantage in materials. The Game is called Panzer Tactics. One would think it was a tank battle game? Buy this game if you want to play as the Germans, otherwise forget !

I posted about this game on a video game site this morning. I got this game for Xmas, and I thought it was just a junk throwaway. I assumed it was on sale or something. Anyway, I clicked on it on amazon to see what it costs.
Lo and behold it's a brand new title. Seriously, I've missed my BART stop three times in a row playing this game. It's totally absorbing. I will probably end up playing it at my desk once my boss leaves. I'll just prop a book on my lap, a couple on the desk and then make it look like I'm using my blackberry.
YES!
