If at all possible, rent this game first. My 5-year-old got frustrated with the lack of action in the game--if there is any, it's not in the first level--all you do is chase down people to ask them questions and search for clues. This game seems like it was thrown together quickly to get something out in time for the movie, with very little thought towards whether or not it would be enjoyable. If you want a good action-oriented Scooby game, get the "Phantom Virus" game for Gameboy Advance or "Night of 100 Frights" for Playstation 2.
too boring...

I just got mine yesterday, but I like it. It is basically based on the movie so you are in the Spooky Hotel to start. You tasks every now and then that you have to complete in order to do others. It's like one leads to the other. As you go throught the game you meet the other stars and get to play as them and they each have their own special abilities. You start out with Scooby and Shaggy though. The only thing I don't like is that when you use the characters special abilities, it takes away stamina.
I don't want to say any more cause I don't want to ruin it for you.
Really Bad!

this game is terrible. the gameplay was great... compared to watching paint dry. this is a total waste of the buyers and producers money.
Slow to start, but becomes really great

For the first level, the game sets up the plot and introduces you to various interface things. However, after that, you quickly gain Fred and start kicking...on Ghosts and other cool stuff.
I wish they had fighting at the very beginning, but it's still cool once you get past the first level.
Zoinks! Can't describe this one as "Groovy"

This Scooby Doo game was not nearly as enjoyable as the Scooby Doo in theatres. There's too much narrative for a game here that it never really becomes a fun game. The controls are very hard to manuver, the animation is horrible, and there's no save feature so you have to restart each time you play.
You'll start the game off as Shaggy or Scooby, and as you progress you will unlock Fred, Daphne, and Velma and each have their own special abilities. Shaggy and Scooby's special ability is to run very fast for a short period of time. Fred can use large objects aginst enemies or use his fists of fury. Daphne uses her boots to kick her enemies with strong force. Finally, Velma, the brain of the bunch, and sneak past her enemies and can slow down or stop time in mini-games. Use your special wisely because your strength and stamina meters will run out quickly. In addition, each character can walk, talk, use a scene-specific action (refering to the movie), and block attacks.
Aside from game in general, there are 4 mini-games you can play such as "Unlock the Chest," which requires you to move color-coded rings on a lock to match the model. The rings can randomly change, because after all, you're on Spooky Island. The other three games "Repair the pipes," "Lights Out," and "Musical Mayhem" are all pretty easy, self-explanitory, and unimpressive.
There is nothing groundbreaking here, half the time you are walking around talking to people who keep on saying, "I want off this island!" or "There's something strange going on around here," all of which doesn't help you solve your mysteries at all. Typical level goals include "Find 3 clues" and "Where did the ghosts come from?" During the other half of the game you have to collect tokens in order to buy food and Scooby Snacks to replenish your strength and stamina meters.
Overall, this game is simple at best, and is appropriate for kids 10 and under who liked the movie. The game is very easy, so you don't have to worry about getting frustrated with a certain level or enemy. Kids any older will beat it very quickly and become bored with it just as I have.

I'm an 8 year old boy, and I find the Scooby-Doo movie game boy advance very fun. I just got it for my birthday and I was very happy. I recommend it for 7 year olds. It gets a little hard when you start fixing the pool pipes, but it gets better at the end.
