Another great flavor of AOE...

I've been playing the Age series for a few years and had a little trouble getting into Age of Mythology quite as much as good ol' AOE II. However, when AOE3 arrived... woot! For me, AOE3 felt like a return to the same great game style of AOE II with a fresh look and feel -- and I've come to love AOE3 the way I did AOE II. With the WarChief expansion pack, you get another great flavor of AOE3 above and beyond the plain vanilla. The three new Indian civilizations are a great addition, particularly with the fire pit, which allows you to switch between different bonuses depending on what your strategy is at the moment. There's also new home city shipment cards available that help make each civilization a bit more unique -- yes, many civs can share certain cards but it's the combos that define the civs' strengths.

As with all AOE games (and, let's face it, with any Microsoft product!), there will always be those who will nitpick as to whether a new game is as good as the old, whether an expansion pack really EXPANDED the game, etc. Let's just say that if you're looking for a game with great graphics and audio quality, a rich sense of history and excellent combat and strategy components in either a single player or online environment, you can't go wrong with AOE3 with the WarChiefs expansion pack.

War Cheifs is a great addition

The game introduces some fun elements to the play. The Indian tribes seem a little weak, but it is still fun to play their unique abilities.

Well worth $25 but I am glad I did not spend $50.

daughter and friend love it

You can play as either the British or the Spanish in the Mac OS X demo. I've gotten probably over 80 hours of play time just out of the demo. I can't wait to buy the bonafide version!

Be careful this is adictive...

I've been playing this game since it was first released and added the expansion pack as quickly as it came out. I just don't get tired of it. I highly recommend it.

The newest release builds on the past two with all of the fantastic strategy included in the earlier games. The new improvements are vast and I'm sure that other users and reviews will be able to expand on them more directly. However, if you've played AoE games in the past, this one will not disappoint. They've dropped some of the more esoteric and mundane steps (like villagers constantly returning to town center) and have added simplifying features but haven't sacrificed any of the strategy. I think version three finally brings it all together.

There are a few features which are lacking, however, the scenario game play is a little weak in AoE III and I didn't see any addition in the expansion pack. Also, the scenario creator has so much potential for active users to build situations that others might like to play but requires so much time and effort as to be useless.

On the whole, I certainly recommend this game and the expansion pack to anyone who is interested in strategy games.

Excellent!

This game is an outstanding addition to the Age of Empires saga. The game combines excellent graphics and a great storyline for single player. Skirmishes are very fun with the new civilizations and technologies. I would recommend this game to anyone who likes a good RTS game!

WarChiefs Expansion makes a good game better

The WarChiefs Expansion adds a lot to Age of Empires III. New Indian civilizations. And new maps. Both help keep the game from getting too old and familiar.

And the WarChiefs Expansion fixes a few annoying problems with the original Age of Empires III. One example -- the healers now automatically heal wounded units around them. Before you had to target the healer to a particular wounded unit. That was too much trouble, and I never did it. Now I use the automatic healing all the time.

As a rule, I don't like expansions. Once I buy the game, I don't want to pay the same price again for limited new content. But WarChiefs Expansion breaks the rule. It adds enough to make it worth the money.

Well worth the small cost to upgrade "Age of Empires 3." Not only does it add new material, maps, and civilizations, but it also rids the original version of some of the kinks and quirks that were never addressed with a patch.

Everything in moderation? not in this case

This deserves the expansion of the year award... i dont believe there is such a thing as too much fun... in this case it may be true; three new civs, new units, more to do in home cities, more cards, and a whole new campaign! i will admit the natives are lacking in some areas such as construction but other than that this was a great buy, its worth the money and anyone who disagrees is seriously confused. i would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys any AOE especially AOE3, it basically completes the game and it really brings some closure to the live of the blacks
sincerely,
tony
