When the Dino-pack came with Marine Mania in the original Zoo Tycoon, I wasn't interested in the Dino Pack but I still loaded it because I seem to be weak when it comes to expansion packs----I buy them. I tried but didnt buy Exinct animals because to me making and managing a zoo just doesnt seem interesting when you add dinosaurs and other extinct animals. Children will probably like it.
I wanted to replicate the Bronx Zoo (lots of animals, resturants, concession stands, soveneirs, and one more transportation ride- railroad). I wanted to be able to include billboards and other signs as well as parking lots (looks very cartoonish if you pan to it) and bus stops (to get in tours and large groups of children) for extra revenue. I also would of liked to see bigger maps. Also with todays computers the graphics engine can get a real makeover. Why not be the first strategy buisness sim to be optimized using Dual Core processors which has seen dramatic price reductions.
Needless to say that I was dissapointed to see the anouncement of Extinct Aniamls expansion pack. But that's just me. It is more suited for children than adults. I was hoping to see new content. Remember Marine Mania was Marine Mania in Zoo Tycoon 1. Extinct Animals is the Dino Pack from Zoo Tycoon 1.
Microsoft needs to fix the bugs that still persist in Zoo Tycoon 2. Marine Mania for ZT2 was good but again buggy and carried the bugs from the original. The employees have lousy path recognition and the animals seem to eat and drink in air (not very realistic....but close). The graphics are becoming outdated. I hope Microsoft improves ZT2 or hopefully Zoo Tycoon 3 is next.
I would love to see more transportation rides to permit guests to see animlas in their natural state (a tram or a monorail that takes guests on tours) or take them to different parts of the zoo (like a railraod with multiple stations). I would ike to see more animals (both land and sea) and more content. It's a buisness sime; why not improve the parking lo graphics and implement parking fees sell maps, create billboards, signs, and buisness hours to be implemented so the zoo can close to "clean up". If Wildlife Zoo wasnt so buggy, it would of overtaken ZT2 easily as a great zoo buisness sim.
All in all, I love ZT2 but the graphics are showing its age. If Wildlife Zoo cleans up its act and adds expansion packs (the Eurpoean version just added 2 expansion packs) then I would be going back to that game. ZT2 again is a terrific game for both adults and children. My wife who loves elephants, adores how the elephants look in this game. She only wishes she can see those "fuzzy heads" (little hairs on top of their heads). Just like Marine Mania it's recycled from the original Zoo Tycoon. Is Zoo Tycoon 3 coming?. Are there going to be more expansions?
I hope the franchise isn't ending. Is it me or are expansion packs in general getting or have been very pricey?
Finally Zoo Tycoon 2 with its expansions together I would give 4 stars (minor bugs and the graphics engine is beginning to show its age). For kids, this expansion would teach them about dinosaurs and appeals to them. I would of liked to see the dinosaurs as animatronics. You could build buildings and create animatronics display with movie screens to teach your guests about the past and what could of happened to the dinosaurs (Kind of like Spaceship Earth in Disney World). You can use the jeep tours to allow guests to see your animatronic display.

Have to reboot into XP to run the game. I called Microsoft and they told me it is a known issue and just offered me a refund.

I actually liked zoo tycoon 1 better than zoo tycoon 2, simply becuase it had more content. However, the expansion packs like endangered species and african advewnture add to it. Of all the expansion packs i looked forward to the extinct animals the most. It is good they have both dinosaurs and other extinct animals, however i wish they would have more dinosaurs and a larger variety. They were all kindof similar. However, this game is still fun, and easy if you stick to freeform games, for the younger players. The minigames are a great addition, especially being able to chase escaped dinos yourself. I think the graphics need to be updated, but it is still fun to walk around (or drive in a jeep) next to dinosaurs
Don't forget to buy the basics!

I bought this for my son who is 11. He loves the games. I thought I had read the description thoroughly so did not realize that I needed the basic Zoo Tycoon 2 before I could get these specialty Zoo Tycoons like Extinct Animals or Marine Animals, etc. Fun game. Just need to get ALL the goods you need. (which does, of course, increase your cost)

The Extinct Animals Expansion Pack adds many new animals to the game. It allows you to search for and dig up dinosaur bones, construct the new dinosaurs, and place the newly created dinos into exhibits. You no longer need to place an egg and have it hatch. My 6-year-old son loves playing Zoo Tycoon 2. We have purchased both the Extinct Animals and the Marine Mania expansion packs and he has enjoyed the game even more with these new additions.
Two thumbs up!

Well my son is passionate about his zoo building with every version and expansion pack out so far. He has spent so much time completing all the scenerios and building custom zoos. He definitely has experience with it. He was anticipating this release since the rumors of it started. I will have him document what the details are that he likes/dislikes but I wanted to say to those looking to buy it that he loves it. He keeps shouting out, "OH COOOOOOL!" "YES!!!" There has been expansion packs that he has NOT had this much excitement about. I asked him what he thought of it overall to write this review and he screamed out, "TWO THUMBS UP!!!" FYI :)
Can't get it form Amazon

I pre-ordered it several weeks ago, but a week after the release, it is still not available from Amazon. I canceled the order and got it locally, for same price. Great game. My son loves it.

As a huge fan of all things zoo and animal, I took a gamble on this game in hopes of reigniting my childhood passions. I was pleasantly surprised to find Zoo Tycoon 2: Extinct Animals was actually a lot of fun for a kids game. At my age it isn't really a challenge at all, but the fanciful nature of the gaming system and antics of the animals are fun to watch and unfold as you build your dream zoo. I was impressed to notice that both male and female animals have different looks, and some of the dinosaurs even have feathers. Someone was doing their research at Microsoft. I'd definitely recommend this game for younger kids who want to learn more about extinct animals and anyone else who just loves animals.
not your typical video game

My son loves this game! I am not a fan of my children sitting in front of a TV or computer screen being mesmorized by video games, so I was skeptical when my son received the original Zoo Tycoon Complete Collection several years ago. This series won me over, however, when I realized that he does not just have things jumping out at him, rather, he has to use his brain and imagination to manipulate his way through this game. The Extinct Animals is a great progression of this series. The animation, options, and different tasks that can be done are great, and my son loves the diversity and number of animals that he can choose from.
