I played the first version of the Sims and liked it, but there were little things that always bothered me about it, like constantly having to make the sims go to the bathroom, and how it took them forever to walk around each other, how difficult it was to get them to talk to each other and date, etc., so I put off buying The Sims 2 until I got a new computer recently.
Well, I have to say I am really loving this game and have fallen in love with it all over again. I actually bought this title and all the other expansion packs at once (through Seasons) and installed them altogether. The experience is really great! The graphics are much better, I love the way you can manipulate the camera angles, and the sims are now a little smarter about what they do autonomously, so if I have a large family to play, I can concentrate on one sim for a while and not have to worry about what the others are doing.
The downtown area in the Nightlife section is really cool, and it takes less time to order and receive food now. I like the new date scoring system, and the new aspirations give a little sense of urgency to the game, which I enjoy. You now have specific goals to work toward with each sim, and there's incentive to reach the goals because you know your sim will eventually die. Oh, and did I mention that there's vampires now?
Love, love, love what they've done to this game!

Writing this review at age 19, I have been playing games as my primary hobby for about fourteen years now, ever since I sat down to Wing Commander at age 5. In my experience I have played them all, each big name release put through it's paces. From Doom to Duke Nukem to SWAT to Halo 2, games are a passion of mine. Yet for every gore-soaked, action-packed release by id, every cinematic masterpiece released from the studios at Infinity Ward, very few games have managed to garner lasting approval and appeal for me as The Sims 2. This game, while extremely easy to play and user-friendly, packs astounding depth. The massive variety of accessorizing, purchasing, and constructing options allows, literally and mathmatically, quadrillions of possible lives for your Sims to lead, and the experience of taking care of another person's life, like cyber pseudo-parenting, is one that is sure to make you grin openly, and remind you why you ever liked videogames in the first place.

The Sims 2 is a brench mark for the best interactive game you could get. Other then being online. It a trend of life and does teach some value for teens how to take care of themselves. It very complex to learn and not easy to get to know. I suggested getting the guide book for it, once you get to know it a little. I had problems installing "Fun Stuff" packs and other download. But my daughter had no problems playing the base and Sims 2 Pets on the PC. If you want to get a sample before playing the PC version. Get a DS version of Sims 2 and Sims 2 Pets and New MySims coming out.
Bit of warning. better have a very large hard drive and above average video card. I have base game and four expansion packs and three "fun stuff" added n packs. Also the download could fill your hard drive up fast. Deluxe comes with a built in expansion "Night Life" so you have a pack to start with. Also patch your games and save the files folder regularly (located in your My Document Folder).
Warning: Awesome but Addictive!!!

This game is so much fun, but I warn you; you can't play it for 15 minutes and then quit. You can't play for 30 minutes and then quit for that matter. It is very extremely difficult to play for under an hour at a time. I love it!!

I had the sims and it was pretty fun. But it got old quickly and soon there were no more things to do with it. There were several things that I didn't like: no marriage, no aging, bad zoomimg, bad camera navigation, and honestly no real reason to stay with your sims and help them through life. It was all too simple, and not like real life at all.
Then along comes the sims 2! Man, this is SO MUCH BETTER! And especially the deluxe edition, that comes with the nightlife expansion, so that you can go downtown and have a rockin' night out! Nightlife comes with tons of new clothes, and you can but cars to go downtown! Besides, with this expansion you can go on dates that have rating, from Horrible to Dream Date!
In the sims 2, sims have life aspirations (Pleasure, Family, Romance, Fortune, Knowledge, Popularity) and wants and fears. Wants and fears vary depending on the life aspiration. If you fulfill wants, sims will get more aspiration points and be happier. If their fears are realized, then they loose aspiration points and get sad. There's long-term and short-term relationships, and teenagers can go steady. There's a difference between crush and love. Adults and elders can marry. There's six ages that sims go through: baby, toddler, child, teenager, adult, and elder.
I can go on and on. But it's better for you to get this game and experience the rest for yourself!
Great Game!

I love this game. I used to have the Sims 1 but this is really a step ahead. The graphics are much better, and you can make your Sims look really detailed. I also love how close you can get into the Sims world- it's like your actually there! Also, this version of the Sims comes with the Nightlife expansion. With the Nightlife expansion, you can go out to all the restaurants, parks, shops, and so much more! Even without that expansion, the Sims 2 is totally fun. Unlike in Sims 1, your Sims can have generations of their own, pass on DNA, and eventually die.If you are new to the Sims 2 like me, I would start with the Sims 2 Deluxe.

This is one great value. It gives you two games for the price of one. The Sims is an addicting game that will consume hours of your time. But it is fun and always interesting what you can do with them. And you can also download content to add onto the game, extra careers, skins, items. Its amazing what you can do with this game. A game that will never get old and you will come back to at least once a month to play.

When I discovered this game a few months ago while looking for something else. When I downloaded the game, it didn't have all of the features as the boxed version. So, please don't buy any downloaded version of the Sims because you WILL get ripped off. You might say that EA/Maxis (by giving you a downloadable version) have given (Simmers and future Simmers)) a teaser. Because, when your system (for any reason) goes down and you have to reformat the drive, you have to re-download your game (which takes a very long time). So, BUY THE BOXED VERSION. When I started paying the game, I was taken back by its vivid details and overall game play. Any avid Sim player know just how addictive this type of game is. Unfortuately, the game is truly adictive and it is ture that it in itself is a soap opera/sit com. I like the idea of making Sims and building their homes and decorating the lots. You can learn something from a game like this and depending upon your outlook on life you can learn many good things as well as bad things too. I do like the ability to control the Sims but I wish they didn't come out with cheats for the game because by doing so, you take the fun out of playing the game honestly. I still rate the game very high.
