I purchased this game for me and my children and we did not find it fun at all. We've enjoyed numerous platform games, but this one does not have much to offer. Monotonous and mundane...I would look elsewhere for an enjoyable video game...try simpsons hit and run...spongebob "battle" is HORRIBLE!

Computer Crash

I bought this game for my little sister. She wanted me to install it so I did. Little did I know how bad of software this is. I consider myself a computer geek, I work on computers for my part time job, (I am a sophomore in High school) and this program gave me the most frustrations I have ever had with computers.
I installed it on Windows ME. It said it had to reboot, so I let it. It took 60 minutes to reboot. And after it did, guess what? It had deleted my sound card driver. Now to a regular computer user, you would have to take your computer in to a computer repair shop to fix this. But I was able to do this myself, and it still took me a half hour to do that. So I reinstalled the program, and the whole system crashed. It would load, but freeze up totally. I was ready break down and cry. But after several hours I was able to fix my system. I finally did get it to work, after several hours, and keep in mind that I am a computer geek. THQ made the worst software, Paris Hilton could write it better, and the way other people's reviews sound, the games not that fun anyway.
Bottom line- if this is a must have game (which I don't know why it would be) buy a PS2 or game cube. Because if I didn't know as much about computers that I do, I would have had to bring my computer into the shop and spend several hundred dollars to get it fixed (PS2's cost about $200, a lot cheaper than what the shop would charge to get your computer fixed)
Hope you find this helpful.

Not Too Great

Spongebob Squarepants: The Battle for Bikini Bottom begins with a cut scene where Plankton fails yet again to take over Bikini Bottom. This time he tries robots, but they don't obey him and run rampant throughout Bikini Bottom. Supposedly, the aim of the game is to save Bikini Bottom from the robots.

The actual game is woefully unrelated to the plot. Robots only surface a few times, at seemingly random intervals - they aren't a driving part of the game. The entire game is actually composed of a multitude of mini-games - including a game like the classic Snake, but with Gary - only a few of which were actually related to robots.

Most often something rather pointless happens, like someone steals Mermaidman and Barnacle Boy's items, or else someone steals from the local Magic Shop, then the items are scattered over several mini-games.

Graphics were mediocre - my friends and I marveled at how it was difficult to distinguish between what was 3D and 2D. Compared even to Half-Life, whose graphics are less exciting than the gameplay, this game is no match in art. Even in Half-Life there are transparent objects - where transparent objects in this game are obviously meant to be used, they are simply solid objects.

Don't get me wrong; I do love Spongebob - that was the main reason for me to get the game - but even for something based on a cartoon that is rather ridiculous, this game is too plot-less to really enjoy.

Why do the publishers treat PC users this way?

If you shop around for this game, you'll notice that there is a PC, PS2 and XBOX version - the boxes are almost identical. The XBOX and PS2 versions are actual 3-D adventures where you get to control the various characters of Bikini Bottom with some mini-games added-in. The console versions of the game are pretty good. The PC version IS NOT! It is basically a series of mind-numbing mini-games and 2-D platforming that tends to frustrate the kids more than anything else. My kids got tired of getting stuck and gave up.
The funny part is that most XBOX and PS2 games are originally created with programming tools on the PC - so why create such a simplified uninteresting game for the PC user. Must have to do with licensing agreements so it won't compete with the consoles.
I would avoid this game and let THQ know that they should create the same game for all the platforms they release it on (even if they need to charge the same price as the console version)!

Don't know why they will not let you enter a review without at least one star????
After reading the reviews I have changed my mind about buying the Battle For Bikini Bottom. I will take this off my wish list and look for something else for my 5 year old to play. Thanks reviewers.

This game is cool, but it is way too short. This was the first time I bought a game without reading reviews first. This was not really worth the money because it was to short, but this is one of those games that you can play a couple times after you bet it and you wont get too bored.

Fun for a five year old

My five year old just started playing video games and this is a good starter. The game is very forgiving, as SpongeBob never truly dies and my son gets a chance to start over at the last check point. This limits frustration since he doesn't have to start from the beginning every time. There are some areas that require a little adult help, but if one of us is not immediately available, there is enough to do in each area to keep him entertained. He will even jump SpongeBob off a cliff, so he can play the same area over and over.

VERY FUN GAME!!!

Fun kids game, but short

My 5-year old LOVES Spongebob, and definitely enjoys the game. There are three (or four?) areas that have a series of challenges; you have to complete each before moving on to the next. Once you have completed them all, you can go back and play whichever games you like the most. I don't see this as a favorite among older kids (9 and up) -- it could get a bit boring. And younger kids need help with some of the challenges and the trivia games. But, if your expectations are reasonable, it's a cool little game.

Better than the first few.

As each Spongebob game is released, it is generally better than the last. This one is no exception. The game itself resides with less storage space than previous games. The load time between sequences is faster. The game is tad longer than employee of the month, which was a relatively long game. The graphics are of little issue, as they are replications of the cartoons, so they can change very little. As far as installation issues, i had none. People with installation issues should look at their systems first before assuming it is the game. So many situations are caused not by the game, but by the system it is on. Troubleshoot. In any case, this program never crashed for me. It ran beautifully and was great fun for myself and my 5 year old son to play. I would recommend this to any Spongebob fan.
