Buyer Beware! This is not as good as a DDR ...

There is too much unfounded exuberance in this game, as found in PS2 reviews of its cousin. The fact is the songs bundled with the game (even at 50 karaoke "favorites," including 10 classic Motown hits) get old very quickly. Most of the songs may be nice to listen to, but most are also too hard to sing along with. And if one thinks this problem can be solved by simply buying choice songs online, beware! At this point, there is nothing that even google can easily lead one to a vendor with sufficient stock of Karaoke songs to run on the Xbox machine using this particular Karaoke game. This product is excellent if one is easily contented with belting just a tiny fraction of the songs that is bundled with the game. But it is extremely terrible when it comes to availability of songs beyond what one gets from the originally packaged merchandise. Stay away from this product until more "singable" and popular songs are available for purchase from the net! I made a mistake, so make sure you profit from it. Then, my mistake will be worth it.

Fun game, but can be challenging.

Karaoke Revolution is a great game, and it's challenging. Maybe a little too challenging. In this game, you have to get the pitch right, and sometimes that could be very difficult. Plus, the crowd will tend to boo you off the stage.. and it's such a heart stopping feeling. Or, aka, not a good feeling. But, when the crowd loves it, they clap, and dance. That's a good feeling.

Heh. So this game is overall to me 3 stars. Fun, but challenging.

**Update Sept 1st 05** - I've had this game for 9 months and Konami STILL has not offered any new song downloads with the exception of the ones that were offered when the game was released on XBOX Live. This is absurd. Why no new downloads? This changes my entire opinion of the game so put that 5 star away, because it' really now only a 3. With no new songs to download, this takes away any new replay value this game could have had. Major bummer Konami.

Review: This game took me off guard. I expected just a simple little Karaoke game with lyrics on the screen and nothing more. I never played the ones on the PS2 and really never wanted to, but when it came out for XBOX, I figured, what the heck, I enjoy singing so I'll give it a shot. In 4 words, "what a party game!" First off, Konami did a wonderful job of replicating the actual music from the original artists. The music is nearly cloned perfectly. People with home theaters will jam to this with the 5.1 Digital. The way the crowd reacts to you really gets your adrenaline flowin, if you sing bad, you're character will get booed off stage, heck, you do bad enough, the music stops--- if you do well, they will go nuts for you. It really makes you feel like you're at a serious karaoke jam. But not only do you just sing, you're also being judged! The game judges you by tone of voice and timing. It's very picky at times and when you don't know the words by heart, prepare to have a mean crowd by your side.

The different venues like county fairs, outdoor stadiums, party palaces and local bars gives the game a very realistic feel. The characters available are comical to watch on-screen and they move their mouth with yours, downright funny. The males will get a kick out of choosing the "Britney Look Alike Girl" and doing Friends in Low Places.

Up front, the music selection is a mixed bag and I won't judge if it's good or bad because different people prefer different things. It mostly included a little country, some 80's, 90's and some recent stuff. I know it's hard to make everyone happy, but the thing to do is offer more music. And that is where XBOX Live comes in. With an XBOX Live subscription (which is already $49.99 a year) you can connect online to get new songs. Of course there is no mention of charging us in the instruction booklet, but not to my surprise, there is a $4.99 fee for each group of songs. Each group of $4.99 contains 5 songs. I'm sorry, $4.99 is a rip off, especially when we may only want it for 1 or 2 of the selections. And we're already paying Microsoft to go online for our yearly subscription. Sigh. More money out the door...

And considering we spent $59.99 for the game itself, Konami seems a bit greedy. I would have liked it more if you could buy in singles for .99cents. Seems more logical. At this time "Jan 05" the downloads are pretty weak, only about 6 groups availalbe and the stuff they do have is pretty skimpy. A few 80's songs, Jessie's Girl, more Michael Jackson, some Britney Spears, Madonna, etc. Good stuff, but we need a wider variety. Hopefully over time they will get that price down and get more for us.

As a whole, I still loved this game, I'm a karaoke fan and love to jam out, other fans will love it to. As with me, some music you're simply never going to sing, or want to. The problem, some of the modes force you to sing what it chooses to continue on to earn new characters and venues. It's annoying and if it was up to me to market this game, I would make different genres of music to sell seperately instead of putting a mix of music on one game. How about an all 70's, all 80's, all 90's and "Modern" releases so people dont' get stuck with songs they'll never use. But as a whole,it's good fun and I'm lovin' the songs I do like, and the ability to download new songs is nice but when will they offer more?? And even for what they got, $4.99 for 5 songs is greedy and they should let you choose them individually. Duh Konami?

I found that this is a great game. Not only is it fun to play alone, but it's great for parties. You can change the levels, from easier to harder, depending on how you sing. It shows how off your pitch is, which is a great feature! I think that this is great for people who love to sing, even if you're not good at singing!

an excellent party game!

Had the chance to play this with different groups at holiday parties...from ages 6 to 75...this game was a huge hit...
The limitation of having only 50 songs is the only drawback.
Hours of hilariousness were had. It brought people out of their shells...some friends who would never be expected to sing at a party took to it like fish in water.
This was the definite hit of the holidays with young, old, hip, square etc.
I just wish I could find out how to get more songs! There is no info at XBOX LIVE about promised new downloadable songs for sale.

Humiliation was never so much fun!

Got the game, connected the microphone, and was having a blast in less than 3 minutes. You pick a complex or simple song, choose plain karaoke, or get graded by the crowd or your friends. Connect to Xbox Live for more songs. Sure it'll cost you, but isn't singing "Jessie's Girl" to an adoring crowd worth it?

There is no mystery to this game, just flat out karaoke fun. The "bundle" part of Karaoke Revolution Bundle is the microphone that plugs into your joystick (just like an xbox live headset).

Fun for the Family

I bought this for Christmas 04. 2 years plus later, we're still playing. For a family of 7, the game is wonderful!

The kids play each other, and play as a family at least every week. This is how we unwind from the busy week and get family time. Movies are good but Karaoke is better.

At first the songs can be difficult to get used to to, but even our 8 year old is an accomplished singer now. This would be a DEFINATE FAMILY FUN GAME. It's not the skill that counts but the fun you have learning.

Awesome!!! Can't Wait for the next one!!

This is an awesome game!!! I love that you have to actually have some talent in order to play. I love how the microphone can pick up what note you are singing. (Isn't technology crazy?!?!) This game is fun for the person/people playing and for anybody who might be just watching. The characters get pretty animated and they glow when you sing really well. (It's pretty challenging to try to get your character to glow during the entire song! But trust me, it can be done!) The crowd watching your character also waves their arms and dances if you are doing a good job. If not, then the crowd leaves and your character gets pretty depressed. I hope that Konami comes out with more for XBOX!!!

Note: there is one downside to this game. You find yourself singing the same songs over and over again. (60 songs really isn't that many to choose from)

fun fun fun
